Needy communities in Dominica receive donations of household items

Local investment and hospitality company, Range Developments is continuing its long-standing support for communities in need across Dominica with donations of mattresses, duvets, pillows, towels, bedsheets, T-shirts and other daily living essentials.

The initiative was rolled out across eleven communities on the island including Soufriere, Gallion, Scotts Head, Kalinago, Paix Bouche, Bourne, Bense and villages close to Portsmouth. Beneficiaries were selected on the basis of greatest need and who have received the least amount of assistance from other charitable organizations.

Donations were also made to specific community organizations including Northern District Home for the Aged, Dominica Infirmary and Grotto Home for the Homeless.

Julianna Andrews, a beneficiary from Chance said:

“I would like to express my gratitude for all the items we have received, the support is much appreciated. God bless you all.”

Range Developments worked closely with volunteers who have extensive knowledge of the selected communities to ensure that individuals and families in greatest need received the donations.

Verlanda Brunei, a volunteer for this initiative stated:

“It was overwhelming to see and feel the joy of the people receiving the donations. On behalf of myself and my communities, we are grateful Range Developments is continuously reaching out to those in need.”

Range Developments aims to continue its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program in Dominica with a particular focus on education projects and initiatives. This is not the first time Range Developments has donated items to help communities across Dominica. The company recently distributed new wheelchairs to beneficiaries all over the island to help them with their mobility needs as well as donating school supplies to children late last year.

Follow the money, an audit needs to be conducted by outside of Dominica auditors from the UN to see how much Treasure money has been deposited into personal overseas bank accounts by Dominican leaders. The Hurricane was almost two years ago why are people still living in houses covered by tarps? Where did all the millions in donated money go? These millions did not seem to go to the people it was intended for, the hurricane victims.

Poor people will tired suffer in Dominica. these people are building hotel resorts with our passport money while the poor people get a few household items. When will this end?

Even the poor has dignity. This is an undignified manner to make a donation . These ‘charitable’ gifts are solely intended to create widespread publicity for the predatory donor company. Why these distasteful photos? Did the recipients give permission for their faces to be published all over the world? When someone gives from the heart, there is no need for any big hullabaloo. We should desist from further making a spectacle of the poor, their lives are already fraught with pain and misery.

My Goodness, they could have placed the items in bags and buckets and distribute the bags and buckets rather than the method I am currently seeing… very poor taste.

Is that the way Range Development, using our passport monies, distributing the items? The photos are unflattering even humiliating to the recipients..

Sometimes one wants to be positive with things happening in DA but it’s hard to forego the truth. It is good that Range helps out poor Dominicans but the statement about Range being a Foreign Investor is questionable. Aren’t they selling passports to build the Hotel?

Why won’t our Gov’t be honest with it’s citizens? This is just another example of how much poorer Dominicans have become under the charade that passes for Gov’t in DA. A bunch of greedy men making the country poorer while filling their pockets.

I was so shocked to see so many people still living in uncovered houses or under tarpaulins in Dominica after recently driving around the island! And yet still the Government seems to have so much money for motorcades, political campaigns and other unnecessary spending? What is going on? We have so many poor and destitute families in Dominica and at the same time our Government have so much funding, grants and monies that they keep receiving? Where is all that money going? Most people still poor!

‘what are you doing to help?’
Boss, give me a break with that crap!
He doesn’t have to be doing anything!
He is not an elected official nor is he being paid by my tax money!

Skerrit and his other eighteen lackeys have their sticky fingers on the government purse. The desperately indigent get promises and platitudes while he and his Cabinet have their snouts in the government trough. They live fat off the hog. Too little is being done to assuage the suffering of the poor man and too much of the country’s resources go to maintain the lavished and opulent lifestyles of the members of this potbellied government. The table has to turn.
