Nurses focus on less fortunate

Nurses in action at The Grotto this morning

In keeping with the theme of International Nurses Day, “Closing the Gap: Increasing Access and Equity”, the Dominica Nurses Association (DNA) is reaching out to the residents of the Grotto Home by affording them a total wellness experience.

“Today is just a giving back, freely. Because some years the focus of International Nurses Day is on nurses, but according to the theme we’ve decided to focus on people who have limited access to healthcare,” President of DNA, Nurse Rosie Felix said during the wellness session this morning.

Felix said that the decision was in an effort to assist the homeless specifically, to whom medical care may not be a priority.

She said, “If you are homeless you are financially disabled or limited and you would not be able to seek healthcare as you wish and you have to be dependent on the staff of the home. You may also find persons who are homeless may be in despair and are not so bothered about healthcare. So we thought that coming to them to provide some health services that they’d remember that the nurses care.”
