OCTOBER 25th-Daily Updates from Dominica

The question of security has been on the minds of friends and family of Dominicans since the passage of Hurricane Maria. Davidson Valerie Deputy Chief of Police of the Dominica Police Force took to the podium today to reassure the public about the measures which the Police have and are continuing to take to curtail any chaos and ensure the safety of citizens and property.

Valerie asked members of the public to cooperate with the police in the matter of curfew hours which, although reduced, are still in effect from 10 PM-5 AM. He also broached the topic of recovered stolen goods from various communities, asserting that the search and recovery of stolen items will continue and those responsible will be brought to justice.

The Deputy Police Chief also gave word on the general conditions of the police stations, reporting that police officers are being provided for and that the DPF is trying their best. He expressed confidence that the officers are equal to the task at hand.

We shipped two pallets of supplies to family after hurricane Maria from Florida via Tropical Shipping – they received them. What did you ship?

Perhaps you and your family have the right connections? That is how Dominica works (…or doesn’t) these days. Count yourself lucky.

Faith: you lying last night on Kairi acting pm said they just cleared the Tropical Shipping containers from weeks ago so it appears the two pallets you sent were in your dreams, at this time I think ” Free the port” is asking you now what did you ship? Not to worry from your comments red is the color so your family will get their privileged corn beef and sardines which surprisingly is not part of your pm’s stable diet.

  2. I am positive are U?
    October 26, 2017

I hear some giving false hope to the people as they try to down play the real crisis in the island of Da today. I know we ought to be positive and hopeful but if one is dying of cancer and he / she keeps saying they are in good health, sooner rather than later the will die and people will be shocked. Being positive IS NOT lying about the reality of what is, but rather the attitude in which we deal with what is. The truth about Dominica is, we are in a serious state of emergency that we may or may never get out from if we don’t take the necessary steps to deal with it. The first thing we need to do NOW…today is to get the prime minister to resign or fired TODAY! Unless he resigns / fired, it’s going to be a very long road ahead that I am afraid will see us down for good. I don’t hate the PM because outside of politics he is a lovable person because of his charisma. But he cant do the job; he can’t unite us, his reputation in the international world is too bad. No one trusts him

You are so right. The government is in a state of denial. Like saying that a person is not dead, just no breathing!

I am against looting and I strongly condemn it, just as God is against sin, but not against the sinner. However, to hear the Chief of Police of the Dominica talk brag about over 100 looters were arrested and the fine associated with looting is very disturbing to me as a God fearing person. I think the PM should quickly come in and forgive every looter because of the circumstances the people had to deal with the morning of Maria. First I say so because of the Proverbs 6:30-” People do not despise a thief if he steals to satisfy his hunger when he is starving.” Secondly because of the PM’s ill advise: On the Morning of Maria the PM was on the radio telling the nation that the storm will NOT linger and therefore there is no need to stockpile with food and water. Folks, this is the PM you know. At that same time the opposition was on Q95 warning the people about a dangerous storm. Sadly the people listened to the PM only to find out Maria was LONG and took everything they had was gone

The PM MUST take responsibility for the looting and the shock Dominicans had to deal with the day after Maria. In fact here is what the PM told the nation the Morning of Maria ” I want to make this very important point that the next few hours should be placed on cleaning up the house, the property rather than stockpiling weeks of food and other supplies. This is not a system, based on advice, that will linger very long, therefore the goal must not be on stockpiling supplies but the mitigating damage caused by flying objects as well as fallen trees, shrubs etc.”
Meanwhile Dr. Fontaine was on Q 95 warning about a very dangerous hurricane and actually said that “people would be shocked to see when they get up.” Thompson was 100% correct while PM was 100% wrong. When people got up they were indeed shocked to see the destruction and to see they had NO FOOD NO WATER, simply because the took the advise of PM Skerrit. Pm MUST take responsibility and as such free the people of all guilt.

Amen, …and who was the first person out of the country on a helicopter the next day? Yes,you are right my brother, the same one that told us not to worry.

    October 26, 2017

Despite all of these updates one thing I know for sure is that if this thing had happened in the US where I reside, affected persons , especially those whose homes were damaged and had no insurance and those that had no food, would see the government especially when one radio station like Q95 was telling people to be ready for a very bad storm and the government, is on the other station like Skerrit dl was down playing the storm and is on record saying storm will not longer long and no need to stockpile food and water. Boy in the US the Governor would be in real trouble

Give me a break! Government has to tell people what to do. We live in Florida – we know hurricane season runs from June 1 – November 30 every year, stockpiling of food and water for us begin in January. We are responsible for our well-being, and making sure our house has adequate insurance.

It seems these press conferences are for Public Image purposes. But the reality is completely different. It’s often about a lot of undeserving people patting themselves on the back for a job well done when the reality on the ground reflects incompetence and lack of foresight in many aspects. Many of these trumpet blowers can only thrive and continue to hold positions that they should have long been fired from, yet still have the gull to come on air and speak athouritatively, in a country that accepts such an absurd level of mediocrity… like Dominica… smh

What happened prior to the hurricane? Chaos existed prior to the recent hurricane, our nation existed in a state of chaos for the past twenty years, and have become more chaotic within the past fifteen years! Had our nation not been existing in a state of chaos, there would not be so many unsolved murders in the country, and  north of the country in general!

There would not be so many unsolved murders in our small village of Wesley. Where was the police over the years. The way things are right now even the murderers, thieves crooks and all the unsavory  culprits are salving for food like everyone else, they do not have time for chaos, and entropy.

Instead of you looking for that fifteen minuets of fame talking nonsense about police preventing chaos,; you and the police should be trying to find out how many Dominicans who died, and those unaccountable for since the storm.

Be constructive; chaos will come in time when the people whose life’s are disrupted realize they have no…

YOU ALL ARE JUST WICKED PEOPLE . YOU ALL KNOW THE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE THAT ARE OUT OF JOBS BECAUSE OF DOMINICANS WICKEDNESS AND THE AMOUNT OF FOOD PEOPLE WASTE WHEN THEY LOOT. One thing you alL need to Keep in mind is that is not only Skerritt that is being hurt but the WHOLE DAMN COUNTRY.

@GRACE, you’re so right we have a lot of WICKED AND LAZY people on country. They runing away fr Dominica but remember where ever you go wake up early to work in the morning. De same work you all refuse to do in country is the same thing you will do over seas, good luck.

      October 26, 2017

No, I am not condoning the looting but while the police were shielding the P.M. like a queen bee the people’s property was left unprotected. All these boys in camouflage that were on the roofs with machine guns to stop protesters from approaching the House of Parliament and the Finance Centre on previous occasions, where were they when it came to guarding peoples property?

I don’t know what else you would want eh. I see you wanted them to put a police officer in front of every home in Dominica. Be realistic!! How can you compare Maria with the protest.

  9. October 25, 2017

Quick to act after the horses has left the barn, where was the police after the hurricane ? they should have been patrolling the streets to prevent the looting that went on. SKERRITE and Carbon MUST GO.

    • we are not refugees.
      October 26, 2017

i agreed with you la pa gabwit. if they were patrolling the human devastation would not have happen . now they want to be all over the place making it look like we are refugees. if you are working in the city you should be given the opportunity to come with your vehicle . people that don’t work and are friend of the police at canefield . are given the opportunity to come in town just to drive up and down . if the country have to get back to normal give people their freedom . curfew change so those officers that are canefield better you guys go and get those appliance from those thief homes . Mr Davidson Valerie call your boy home . it have better work to be done in the country by the police . send those foreigners offices back home .
