  • Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit to address the nation on Friday October 6th, at 7 pm.
  • PM has met with Ross University in order to establish a commitment to remain in Dominica
  • Ross University projected to reopen in January.
  • There is a planned meeting with property owners who provide accommodation to Ross students to ensure that facilities are operational by mid-November in time for the new semester.
  • Government has also met with the private sector in order to assess how to assist businesses in restoring commerce. Some offers which are on the table are concessions possible land grants to businesses to expedite the process.
  • There are continuing discussions with the World Bank which has so far committed 65 million dollars in aid.
  • As of  next week, there will be an increased fleet of heavy equipment on the island.
  • The plan is to use focal points, example: Roseau, Douglas-Charles area, Ross University and move outward in cleaning and clearing efforts.
  • Plans are to get the Ferry Terminal functional, also there should be an announcement soon concerning the reopening of Douglas-Charles Airport.
  • There have been additional police presence deployed at ALL ports. The curfew is still in effect. As of next week, the curfew and State of Emergency will be reviewed.
  • The city of Roseau will function as a pedestrian city for the foreseeable future. Free mini-buses will operate as park and ride shuttles in and out of the city.
  • Next week, farmers are projected to be back in the fields.
  • There is currently a lot of dasheen on the island, which survived the storm. Plans are to buy the crops and provide families in the Roseau area with food, as well as compensating farmers with cash.

Some issues which have been a challenge to distribution of supplies:

        1.  Destruction of telecommunication network.

2. Lack of motorable access to communities, especially in the south of the island: Soufriere, Scotts Head, Pointe               Michel, Snug Corner area etc…  in the Roseau Valley: Morne Prosper etc… in the East: La Plaine, Boetica, Castle               Bruce, Kalinago Territory. Helicopter services were first employed, then sea vessels when landing of the aircraft               became problematic.

  • Further ongoing issues include: a shortage of trucks on the island, equipment operators being affected by the storm.
  • Solutions which were put in place included: the reassignment of Permanent Secretaries, utilizing local markets to purchase food supplies.
  • A line of credit was established in Barbados for supplies which were received last week
  • The focus is upon reaching the most vulnerable in the various communities.
  • USAID has been providing tarpaulins to members of the community to help restore homes. Priority  will be to provide tarpaulins to people in the shelters.
  • Despite challenges faced by international organizations providing aid in Dominica, the focus is on workiing together and synchronizing efforts along with the Government.
  • So far over 10 tons of food and over 85,000 litres of water have been delivered to 50 points on the island. Currently, there is a focus on logistics, purchasing food and training local individuals in distribution.
  • Government as worked with World Food Program to review the food needs for the population for a 30-day period.
  • There is a meeting today with local distribution as well as foreign aid agencies to establish support moving forward.
  • Ports have suffered extensive damage and any processing is therefore a challenge.
  • Personal items may now be shipped into Dominica and will be placed in a separate shed. All items shipped should be clearly labelled with recipient’s name and address.
  • Efforts are focused on moving the supplies out of the ports to warehouses as soon as possible since there is no suitable storage facilities at the Ports.
  • Close to 100 percent of the areas on the island have received supplies. The challenge is within the particular districts/villages concerning getting supplies to each household.

I must say that Skerrit is the most lucky leader in the Caribbean, if not the world. How does he get away with so much? In a real country he would not have survived as PM for a week, let alone for him to keep daily press briefings after his careless statement hours before Maria. In case you miss it here is a quote from what he told the nation: ” I want to make this very important point that the next few hours should be placed on cleaning up the house, the property rather than stockpiling weeks of food and other supplies. This is not a system, based on advice, that will linger very long, therefore the goal must not be on stockpiling supplies but the mitigating damage caused by flying objects as well as fallen trees, shrubs etc.” In essence I understand him to be saying no need to worry… it’s a weak and short storm and there is no need to pile up food and water.. Who gave him that advise nou? He should resign immediately after we dust ourselves from Maria

I firmly believe that if Skerrit had not made this statement “I want to make this very important point that the next few hours should be placed on cleaning up the house, the property rather than stockpiling weeks of food and other supplies. This is not a system, based on advice, that will linger very long, therefore the goal must not be on stockpiling supplies but the mitigating damage caused by flying objects as well as fallen trees, shrubs etc.” more Dominicans would probably survive and the problem we experienced the next day with lack of food and water, would have been less severe because people would shop and better prepare. In fact I was listening to Q95 and when I heard how Thompson and Joshua Francis warned us of a powerful storm I called my brother and told him to take mama, his children and wife to a safe location because that thing is dangerous. He said nou man Pm said it’s not that strong. I told him CNN said it’s a cat 5 storm to get him to move. But it was on Q I…

Another reason why I believe Skerrit should be held responsible for the amount of casualty and hunger and thirst post Maria, is because Dr. Thompson was on Q95 almost nonstop warning Dominicans about the danger Maria posed to Dominica but many did not hear that because PM Skerrit has boycotted Q95 and has warned his supporters against listening to Q95. if only they were not given heed to their masters command many would have heard and many would be saved. So Skerrit should really resign because once again, we can see Q95 was spot on with their information as they have always done, while PM Skerrit was misleading again

I, we could not agree with you more Ave Maria. This man is inept and clueless on matters of good management, foresight, prudence and good government. He, Skerrit has to go. Skerrit must Go. Free Dominica from this worse PM and government since Independence. Can you imagine this ridiculous statement below from this so called PM. I expect Vince Henderson to give some kind of diplomatic excuse to this nonsense. Read my people: Skerrit says: ” I want to make this very important point that the next few hours should be placed on cleaning up the house, the property rather than stockpiling weeks of food and other supplies. This is not a system, based on advice, that will linger very long, therefore the goal must not be on stockpiling supplies but the mitigating damage caused by flying objects as well as fallen trees, shrubs etc.”
You see what we have to put up with…..illiterate politics. Is so we come. No wonder he is called the “Ductored Dr. Scareit”.

  3. State of Emergency
    October 5, 2017

Has an official state of emergency been declared following the constitution and international process? If it had then the PM would not be in control. So is this a Skerro state of emergency that is not legally and internationally recognized?!!

Dominica and national residents will undergo hardship for sometime to come. The critics are many as usual. After Hurricane Maria, how many of the critics, after having experienced such a disaster and those who are especially fortunate to be still alive; some physically unscathed change their ways and cease being judgmental, as if they are perfect, more so than others and beyond that?
Our Lord told us to love one another.
Matthew 5:45 – For he makes his sun rise on the bad and the good and causes rain to fall on the just and the unjust.
1 Thessalonians 2:13 – And for this reason , we, too give thanks to God unceasingly.
1 Thessalonians 5:18 – In all circumstances give thanks, for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus.
Give thanks with a grateful heart.
As the Jewish Proverb: “Do not question God. He will say, if you want answers, come up here.” I love that. How many critics would accept this eternal invitation?

Is this not something that after such a hurricane there are dasheens? God is so good! After ferocious Hurricane Maria passed over D/ca and raged havoc on it and its nationals, they were not eradicated. Note the love and mercy of God in all this for his created children that they can get some healthy root vegetables at this time.
I love to eat dasheen. Where I reside I do not eat enough of them even though they are sold in some grocery stores. You know, as sweet potatoes which are also a healthy root vegetable (all in moderation, a little of this and that) they could be expensive, more expensive than the local potatoes, rice, macaroni, etc. Therefore, some of us purchase them once in a while. I call them a welcome treat for better enjoyment. :)
Having read on DNO that the dasheens were not destroyed, I could not help but think that, these disasters, hurricanes, earthquakes, cyclones and tornadoes could be wake up calls. How many consider that?

Ross is mentioned but not a word about All Saints in Roseau. A lot of private landlords in the city and immediate environs rely on rental income from the students of that medical school,. It are not only mr. Skerrit’s associates in Portsmouth that are affected. What are the plans for All Saints? In any case, how do the students get in- & out of Dominica if the main airport at Melville Hall is not functioning properly? I would submit that the temptation must be there to look for an alternative location for the medical students to pursue their studies. There is no mention either of the state of the hospitality projects such as the Kempinski hotel, Silversands, the Moroccan hotel and especially Sam Raphael’s new Jungle Bay. We must discuss these project that promised so much for us, especially with regard to job creation. It is no good keeping quiet about that and I’d rather face the facts now and not pretend that they do not exist.

Hebrews 12:5-6 – . . . Do not disdain the discipline of the Lord or lose heart when reproved by him; for whom the Lord loves, he disciplines; he scourges every son he acknowledges. . . .
    Also Proverbs 3-11-12.
This also means what Our Lord Jesus Christ said: “I will not leave you orphaned.” God is faithful and true to His Word.
Isaiah 49:15 – Can a mother forget her infant, be without tenderness for the child of her womb? Even if she forgets, I will never forget you. . . . See, upon the palms of my hand I have written your name; your wails are ever before me. Your re-builders make haste, as those who tore you down and laid you waste go forth from you. Look about and see, they are all gathering and coming to you. . . .
That passage is interesting. Quite fitting for D/ca and nationals at a time as this. It is worth reading the rest.
I love the Hymn, “I Will Never Forget You My children. . . .”

Skerrit and his Hench men do not have the Mental , educational, planning and organization skills that are required to bring Dominica back to its feet.
In a time like this , Skerro is still looking for self praise. If Dominicans don’t learn now, I wonder what will pull their heads out of the sand.
I am calling on Skerritt to resign for Dominica to move forward.

These comment further confirm my belief we are done as a nation.. In addition to being in accordance with the general opinions above,I’d love to make some major observations. I am of the opinion the many individuals in our society who had the previlage of higher education have let down the nation ej our university grads more so. The black power hypocrites of the 60 & 70;s who plain sold out. They have become PS’s lawyers engineers Doctors etc ad they sit on their fat butts( some BUTLESS I know a few and one female stands out. They inherited property, purchased or huffed it. My BIG concern is mass migration to come. Many of our youth our young minds have left( school reasons). I happened to be in that very mix post David-1979. With the aforementioned hypocrites the country went RIGHT then the hypos became capitalist during the DFP and Reagan era. then came the Northern minded conspiracy forming the Gov’t in 1995. with the likes of ignoramus, instru the Bottle a few former MND

members, a few bzness men& women, farmers one bzness man who tried everything garments, boutiques, ice cream parlor, supermarket even radio. That combo is something we would want to forget. They are back with what I would say is” FEAR this time as opposed to FEAR this time.” Ignoramus replaced ignoramus.
For most Maria was a fate ceiling event. For many one opportunity to get rid of incompetence in it’s entity, an opportunity for LL to be free from Byrne’s demand( Is Byrnres on island or left for the motherland Ireland? It was observed many, many of our or rather Medard’s brothers were the first to flee. One Civil servant noted that was a nice way to get rid of them. Wishful thinking Civil servant, they will come anew. this time to realy control we are poor and hungry, they have the cash. We are not built mentally to resist temptation of $$$$$ in our faces. We saw the first time around our brothers and sisters who own properties in Roseau and elsewhere threw us out.

All the MoM & Paps store were rented to Skerrit’s et AL’s new friends. Citizens were confronted by then Min of Nation security when confrontation arose between Citizens and Denizens.
Whatever comes out of the ashes for want of a better analogy we need for once if we have the cojones all the so called educated i’d call them studiated individuals for once in your life find the balls the Labia if female and stand for your country Just for once.
I rest my case. As the great Hitchcock would say : “Good night!”

Until today we still don’t know where all the millions of TS ERICA aid money disappeared to….. and now again we will observe that AID money will drain into few pockets only but certainly not go into bridges, schools, roads with drainage, water pipes, hospitals and underground power lines right?
Most people leave DA anyways, lets see how quickly the red clinic recovers by AID money right? ;o)

@ food 4, you are so right. Dominica had already taken a turn for the worse. The evil and corrupt government was using their majority in office to make legal everything that was wrong, just to keep Skerrit in office. In fact the election commission was on the verge of sending their team in Skerrits stronghold countries in the diaspora, just to convince them and others that it was right to make evil good. Tell them to go now. They cannot even go to their village now set of evil people. Let me add here that if all you keep Skerrit in office Dominica will go nowhere because hurricane will come from nowhere to make us run

We will contiu8e listening to Q95 and TDN radios for update and quality news and information. Thanks Thompson Fontaine and your wonderful crew for the service that you have given to us. The information is professional, of good and sound quality and easy to digest.
I don’t know why Skerrit did not fly away with Maria…….we guess God wants him around to see and witness his corrupt and the corruption and pain he has endured on the Dominica people.

Cease your criticisms and negativity. Some people never learn and not even from the terrible Hurricane Maria which affected their country, relatives and friends, in the event these critics reside elsewhere than Dominica. They continue to be negative and spew innuendos according to their type of brains/mannerisms.
As stated on a US TV Station, “Dominica almost got wiped out, off the face of the earth.” When will these people ever learn? This should make the critics think and to be thankful their relatives and friends are alive and Dominica still exists.
The responsibility of the Prime Minister is, he is the Dominican Leader. He is the authority in charge; has to take charge. He has to speak to the people. He is not putting on an act as some warped and envious minds assume. This is his job/obligation. If he does not do that who will and effectively so?

  19. Wrong is wrong
    October 4, 2017

I don’t know what it will take for Dominicans to realize that the land is under a curse from the day Skerrit became PM. Our people tired of dying man and our country is tired of coming under God’s wrath man. Look at what happened to us in 2015 with Erika. Look at what happened to a car of young men in Skerrits own village. You all not learning? Don’t you all remember how Israelites were dying until they got rid of the accursed thing? Maria didn’t have to to that to us for us to learn. Yes, I know all you will say is climate change and Dominica is not the only country. But let me ask you this: was it climate change that brought the flood of Noah? No it was corruption! Was it climate change that caused Sodom and Gorriah to vanish? No, it was abomination . In our case it is evil in high places as they make us feel that good is bad and bad is Good. Evil has taken over our nation folks and I hope we address it this time

  20. Wrong is wrong
    October 4, 2017

Those millions Skerrit had spreading all over Dominica before Maria would become very handy now. Every night in every village he went, you would hear Skerrit gave how many millions for river wall, small business or to build house. Where are those millions now that we need them? Where are those houses you built? Where are those river walls? All you think God playing, even if he delays his judgement. You thought money could buy anything? Way the Money now? All gone in the wrath of Maria within hours! Justice delayed is not justice denied. I am no rejoicing because many innocent people perished and many more innocent people are homeless. But you sir deserve every bit of pressure you under because you deserve it,! Pointless saying we will build back because everything you build, crushing down before it is finished. Bye the way did the villas in Savannah Paile survive?

      October 5, 2017

Dr. Skerrit you gave us very bad prescription and for that you ought to resign. Dr. Thompson Fontaine was very accurate with his prescription and therefore he deserves to replace Skerrit. In the book of Genesis 41 we see a very good story Skerrit should emulate. Pharoah had a dream of seven years of famine that he did not understand and was scared of it. Joseph, a Hebrew slave gave him the interpretation word for word and even before the dream was fulfilled, Pharoah exalted Joseph and made him his depty. Fontaine reminds me so much of Joseph. A brilliant, young, smart Dominican who is an envy to the world but hated by our government to the point of looking for ways to sue him and jail him for speaking truth to power. With the crisis that we now have in Dominica we need Dr. Fontaine to now come with his experience he gained from working with the IMF, to plot a way forward for Dominica. Anything short of that is doom for Dominica with Skerrit in charge.

DNO, the last time I posted a comment you stated that my comment was awaiting moderation but up to now my comment has not been posted . I am trying one more time, hopefully this comment will be posted. Individuals like “ZERO COMPLAIN” and Food 4 Vote are very upset that the recovery process in Dominica is very impressive; they did not expect such a response. They were hoping for chaos with subsequent upheaval by the masses. To their surprise and resentment Skerrit is displaying exemplary leadership in a state of crisis. In such a state Dominica is right now everybody should put politics on the back burner and concentrate on the well being of the country. Dominica was affected the worse among all the islands affected but it looks like Dominica is confronting its disaster with the help of the international community much better than some others .Look at Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. We should thank the international community for their help.

Good point regarding Domlec. We are having a one sided PR stunt.Like the PM instructing Domlec to power Ross as a priority when they have evacuated the island.Yes we need Ross for the future but not at this moment in time.
The majority of Dominicans are having a hard time PM.We don’t have second homes or Presidential Palaces to shelter.in.

  23. "ZERO COMPLAIN!"
    October 4, 2017

With all those foreign presence on island dressed in their military uniform, I guess now would be an ideal time to ask Mr. Skerrit if Dominica will be getting help from fellow citizens like Alerieza Monfared, Allison Madueke, NG Lap Seng and others? I’m quite sure the local police would not be asked to arrest anyone like they did in February. DNO you must stop discriminating with your comments man

  24. "ZERO COMPLAIN!"
    October 4, 2017

But DNO you forgot to point out that during the press conference skerrit warned nationals that they should not complain because he wants ZERO Complain man? I wonder what he will do if unhappy people keep complaining?

    • Let The Truth Be Known - Original
      October 5, 2017

You should know that God does not appreciate complainers. If you are a practicing faithful Christian, you try your best not to complain nor criticize, especially under these conditions.
I suppose you do not reside in D/ca and so you appear to have no feeling for the responsibility and burden of the PM especially after Hurricane Maria.
At this point, why would they be unhappy? They experienced the wrath of a hurricane. They should comprehend that everything takes time and to return to normal.
For the complainers, when all appeared well with them, what did they do for D/ca, for any national for that matter? Did they worship God then and did some good in Jesus Name? Now that they are experiencing some sort of hardship, they are unhappy.
There are some human beings who are ungrateful. God also does not appreciate ungrateful people. They should be fortunate and thankful they are still alive.
Despite what Hurricane Maria did, life must go on and it will. Patience!

It is pretty clear that these press briefings are only set up to promote Skerrit, so he could be seen as the Savior of Dominica. When the man is in DA he finds a way to attend every press briefing. Why when he is out he doesn’t allow ANY of his 17 ministers to brief the press for him? Are they not capable or is it that he doesn’t want any one of them to be heard or out do hiim?

  26. Food 4 Vote
    October 4, 2017

I must conclude that the purpose of the press conference is to say how great thou art to Skerrit and not to inform people as to what is happening. At this time nothing is happening and most people do not have power or cell to know where to go get food. Is supporters of Skerrit that know where to get things and what time because one telling the other and he’ll with u if you not red. That’s why I believe Domlec ensured they powered DBS and Kaire since last week, but though Q95 is right between both stations, the bypassed them so those that listen to Q95 will not be able to tell people what is really taking place on the ground.

  27. Food 4 Vote
    October 4, 2017

The election campaign has begun; just that this time Skerrit has no money to distribute, so is food for vote. They even brought down Vince Henderson to join the campaign. He was in Ny and probably could not or was not allowed to address the UN for Skerrit. But they can’t even trust those 17 ministers to address the press when PM is out. Since the vote 4 food campaign has begun, let’s get this clear from the outset: THERE WAS NOTHING SKERRIT COULD DO TO STOP MARIA FROM HITTING US! However Skerrit MUST be blamed for causing people to under prepare for Maria with this statement the day of Maria: “I want to make this very important point that the next few hours should be placed on cleaning up the house, the property rather than stockpiling weeks of food and other supplies. This is not a system, based on advice, that will linger very long, therefore the goal must not be on stockpiling supplies but the mitigating damage caused by flying objects as well as fallen trees, shrubs etc.”

      October 4, 2017

I agree 1000%. Right now Dominicans especially those that are left hungry and homeless should form a massive line from Fond Cole to Roseau with placards, chanting Skerrit must go now! When Thompson, Joshua and Linton we’re on Q95, telling the nation that it was going to be a big hurricane and people should look for food, water and prepare for a different look Dominica, Skerrit was on the other station saying it’s a small storm that will not last long and no need to stockpile food. After he I’ll advised the people he has the nerve to tell the same people that they should not complain and Zero complain will be tolerated. Man we just need to form a massive line and walk to Roseau. He can’t jail us because enough foreign soldiers to protect us from his evil police force . Unless we do that we are not ready to rebuild

Since we did not take heed to our ways Maria came and speared none according to this passage we usually read during holy communion: “For if we were judging ourselves thoroughly, we wouldn’t be coming under judgment. 32 But when we are judged, we are being disciplined by the Lord so that we might not be condemned along with the world” 1 Cor. 11:31-32
