ODM advises public to seek shelter and stay in doors

Sudden flooding at Douglas Charles Airport

The general public is being asked to note that given the prolonged rainfall, that flooding is occurring in many parts around the island.

The Office of Disaster Management (ODM)  is advising that people should stay indoors as much as possible.

If your area is threatened, please move to a safe area with relatives and friends until the situation stabilizes.

For persons who are moving about or travelling, be mindful of waterways in flood and also landslide prone areas. Please do not take any undue risk.

At this time, if it is possible,  everyone should be home and indoors as the rains will continue for a while longer.

Also, given the continuous rains for about two (2) days or so, everywhere would be fully saturated and hillsides as well as rocks can slip.

Extreme caution at this time is strongly advised.

Hello and good evening my people. Well Mr Austrie how is the dredging of the river doing by the airport. This isn’t a hurricane but the water already coming over the wall into the parking area. Now you all was told to divert the river where two rivers come together about a quarter mile from the airport but it seems that you all disregard that advice.

Folks, I just Googled the meaning of resilience and found the following: “the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties; toughness.”
Being resilient doesn’t mean that the country will not be hit hard by adverse weather or any other natural phenomenon. It simply means that the country will be able to recover quickly from their impact.
What’s more. becoming climate resilient CANNOT occur in one, two, or even three years, especially when the drive toward resilience only started after a catastrophe like Maria. It will take at least a decade–and an awful lot of money!!
Realistically, then, we cannot expect that in the short space of one year, we will have become immune to the effects of 3-4 days of non-stop rain simply because those in government have been talking about (and hopefully, working toward) becoming climate resilient. It’s okay to criticize, but I question the wisdom of some of the criticism that I’m reading here. We have to be both informed and realistic.

You see, you will forever remain a dunce, as long as you rely on Google!

In the English language  resilient is defined as ” capable of withstanding shock without permanent deformation or rupture; it tends to recover from or adjust easily to misfortune or change.”

Resilience means basically the same thing: capability of a strained body to recover its size and shape after deformation caused especially by compressive stress; add to that with an ability to recover from or adjust easily to misfortune or change. And in both cases that is the definition of “resilient, and resiliency in the English language!

The overuse of the word ‘resilient’ does not make the country is resilient (able to withstand or recover quickly from adverse conditions). Only actions will make that possible. Have not seen much action to this end. All the beautiful sentiments in the world weigh less than a single lovely action.
No one can prevent the rains, winds, rough seas, but, by our ingenuity and actions, we can lessen the adverse effects of Mother Nature. It takes astute leadership to do this.

lbo, that talk about Dominica will be the first resilient country in the world is nothing more than hogwash talk, there is no such thing, and there cannot be any such thing, because there is no such thing know as building a resilience country against the elements “wind fire and water; with earthquakes added to that.

There is no resiliency against termites one can build using termite treated materials, but even that has its limitations.

One can probably build stronger structures, one can build a house to withstand a five hundred miles per wind, but will that same structure withstand a five hundred-fifty mile per wind?

As many homes which are blown away by tornadoes, and less strong winds and flood in the United States each year, and there was any such thing as resilient building the technology would be existing in a more develop country (that does not; do not exist) any place except in Skerrit stupid mind!

Leave it to Dominicans to believe rubbish!

I think you are using the word “resilient” as a synonym of “resistant.” Resilient doesn’t mean you won’t be affected; it simply means you will recover quickly.

Less than a week after the Punjab doctor of nothing told his fools that hurricane Maria messed with the wrong country.
Gonzales told the double doctor of nothing that we don’t need an international airport,so he like a service little apprentice slavishly agreed. Then he brought his fools to clap for night landing,at a time when all the islands around him had their international airport.
He wants to build an international airport, but with containers as the runway.Waste of time PM.
    Skerrit Must Go
    Skerrit Must Go
    LAZY Skerrit Must Go Now

So Pm doesn’t issue a state of emergency then? Seems like when he puts us on state of emergency we hardly getting rain but when all seems ok and no storm in the horizon, then comes rain and storm from nowhere. Put all jokes aside somehow I don’t believe Skerrit is behaving and who knows, that might just be the reason for us to be in this place of torment

That is what we get after a cost of more than $500,000,000.00 dollars, installing landing lights, and digging up of the river bed!

Way to go boy Sir, Knight Dr. Punjab/Duquesne Roosevelt Skerrit: Hale to you Mr./Sir Doctor Punjab-Duquesne, you spent more than half a billion dollars on that overflowing swamp, when you could have used that money to build a new International Airport!

What a smart fellow you are!

Your mentality surpasses the genius in every Mountain Chicken Crapaud (crapo) mentality running in the bush in the country!

I thought that we had a resilient airport…Skerrit speaking to his fools on Nov 3rd said”””Hurricane Maria messed with the wrong island”””..Really Skerrit? Are you God Skerrit? Had I been at the stadium,I would leave straight away…No wonder God will continue to destroy everything that you build Skerrit ..What will it take to realise that under your rule, the country is being flogged/punished by God.
Go to Lagon and show your fools an artist impression of an international airport. They will clap for you as though it’s a clown show.Your accomplished clown!!!!Just tell them it is a “”resilient”” airport..I wonder if you can define””resilient””..
