The Office of Disaster Management (ODM) is advising the Dominican public to finalise preparations for the arrival of Hurricane Maria.
A Hurricane Warning has been issued for Dominica as of 11 am today, Sunday.
A Hurricane Warning means that hurricane conditions are expected somewhere within the warning area.
Tropical Storm Maria is likely to become a hurricane later today and could become a major hurricane in 2 to 3 days.
At 11 am, the centre of Tropical Storm Maria was located near 13.5 North and 56.2 West or about 370 miles east-southeast of Dominica.
A calculation puts the centre of the system just north of Dominica in 36 hours; that is Monday night.
According to a statement from the ODM, ‘Maria’ is expected to strengthen and affect portions of the Lesser Antilles as a hurricane early this week bringing dangerous wind, storm surge and rainfall hazards.
Residents are therefore advised to finalise preparations for the arrival of ‘Maria’ and a Hurricane WARNING has been issued for Dominica as of 11am today, Sunday.
Fishermen must immediately begin to secure all gears and not to venture out since high seas are expected. Small craft operators must remain in port.
Shelter Managers are advised to secure keys to shelters and be prepared to open those shelters if asked to do so by the Office of Disaster Management.
All Sub-Committees of NEPO should have plans in place in the event of a response to ‘Maria’.
Persons living in low-lying areas or close to rivers, ravines and other water-ways should be on alert and move to safer areas if need be. Persons in areas prone to flooding, landslides and falling rocks should be vigilant and exercise extreme caution if they must move around. Also, persons in coastal villages should be mindful of storm surges as life-threatening sea activity is expected as ‘Maria’ continues to move across the area.
The ODM together with the local MET Service will continue to keep the public updated.
Our prayers are with you , (G0D Bless ) from Canada !
I wished the same for the last storm but I am sending more prayer your way again for Maria !
Hell lo prime mistake, CBI monies can’t help you! The selling of birthrights is a curse and detrimental to one!!!
Maybe it’s time for Bishop Gabriel Malzaire to lead us in the Ave Maria song. After all, we got an expensive roof from Skerro so it’s time pray for our protection. Here are the lyrics bishop so just lead us into the song and tell us what in the world it means: Ave Maria
Gratia plena
Maria, gratia plena
Maria, gratia plena
Ave, ave dominus
Dominus tecum
Benedicta tu in mulieribus
Et benedictus
Benedictus fructus, fructus ventris
Ventris tui, Jesus
As soon as we were spared from Irma, instead of Skerrit, Byrns and those evil attorneys say its time to forget about their sins of the past and call on the nation to unite, they saw it as a time to go after Linton and to ensure his dreams die and never come to pass. The one whose eyes run to and fro across the world to punish all those plotting evil against his righteous cause, saw their wickedness just as he saw the wickedness and corruption of those during the flood of Noah. Three days later Dominica is under hurricane warning. I just believe God is speaking to us as a people to remind us that he and only he is in control. So let the workers of iniquity plot their evil but the one who never sleeps will attack them on every angle
Let’s pray for mercy. Meanwhile Trump will be meeting with word leaders in NY on Monday, Wil PM be attending?
Praise God for his mighty hands. He gives and takes away for he is God and there is none else like him. Two years ago Erica struck and revived prayer in the lives of many. Two years later, we continue to live forgetful lives….. we are reminded time over time of the love of God, yet we turn away…..
Two weeks ago, many islands were struck including the mainland, major flooding in India, earthquake in Mexico…..
If the earth continues at this pace, will international bodies still be able to feed everyone? If not, could there be famine? Will funds still be available for reconstruction for the next 2 years at this rate? With natural phenomenons destroying agricultural industries and water reservoirs…..
Who knows what is next? Who are we? Why are we here? We work, build and die! Everything that we work for stays behind.
Where do we go after death? Why is there so much evil on the earth? There must be more to life than just this!
All answers are in the word of God!
Is thete no school yomorrow?
So there is no school?
Yes, there is school for you alone. And, make sure you are on time or you will get a detention
Guess Mr St Jean will inform parents and children early enough, because conditions will continue to deteriorate quickly while students are at school. Some schools are also hurricane shelters…Let’s wait and let’s listen.
