Organizers pleased with school children’s march against drug abuse

One student eagerly displays her placard during the march

The streets of the capital city Roseau were on the morning of Friday, January 25, 2019 filled with primary school kids who marched with placards bearing anti-drugs slogans as the Drug Prevention Unit, in conjunction with the 4-H Club, tried to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse in the society.

Acting Director of the Drugs Prevention Unit, Martha Jarvis, hailed the march a success.

“We are satisfied at the turnout as we aim to bring the danger of drugs in our society through the school kids,” she said.

She said not everyone uses drugs but given the prevalence of drug abuse in the society among the youth, it was important to get the message across through the school kids.

“Not everyone uses drugs but we aim to get the message out loud and clear and the turnout has been great and I am satisfied as to what I have seen with the placards,” Jarvis stated.redit

The organizers intend to move to the island’s second town Portsmouth next week.

“We will be having another such rally in Portsmouth on January 31, 2019 and we are again looking forward to a huge turnout,” she said.

In short, teach the youth instead of manipulating them with fear. These tactics have been detrimental to our society.

What Martha Jarvis needs to do is stop preaching scare tactics to children and start doing drug education on conjunction with her drug ABUSE (Not use) prevention program. For years we have taught that marijuana was such a dangerous drug that is makes people crazy and destroys your life. This is what i learned from programs like D.A.R.E. which was pushed by the USA. To this day these teachings have remained in the minds and hearts of many. But today you hear that Marijuana is a life saver, a miracle plant and source of economic Independence. Many people do not know that cocaine is used widely in the medical field, especially at the dentist with their novacaine. Any drug that ends with “Caine or Caine” is primarily cocaine. but to willingly accept it because we trust our dr’s and pharmacists. Opium is another drug that is widely used. Meth is also used in drugs like Oxycontin and oxycodone is from opium. This is drug education. teach our youth the uses of these substances and how not…

Very good initiativ. I would like to know whether these children are informed that there are good drugs and bad drugs ? Tv’et should know that egen we go to Jolly or Bullseye pharmacy that er infact are purchasing drugs. Overuse og these drugs are infact just as dangerous.

Wow! When will they stop brainwashing and using our children to do nonsense? What drug abuse they referring to? Rum? Cigarette? Coke? I hope they’re teaching our children that herb like cannabis was never a drug, though they should not smoke it. Having said that it would make more sense to see our children March against corruption in general and have them hold placards that says ” corruption kills”. ” God hates corruption” and God destroyed the earth because of everything was corrupt. Why not have them March against child abuse or even child sexual abuse? I am referring to things that could hurt them or things that some of them might be victims of. We to damn hypocrite in this country! We are silent about those demons that are hurting and destroying our country but very loud about little things others doing. Yes drugs are dangerous but not as dangerous as those evils that will sure cause our country to be like Venezuela is going through today.
