IN PICTURES: DLP, UWP host campaign events

events

The Dominica Labour Party (DLP) and the United Workers Party (UWP) hosted events on Saturday night as part of their campaign in the run up to the general election.

The DLP held a rally at the Bayfront in Roseau during which it introduced its slate of candidates for the election. The event was also the party’s official campaign launch.

The UWP held a concert at the Harlem Plaza dubbed ““The Dominican Artistes, Concert for Change,” which saw performances from a number of local artistes.

See some photos below from both events.

It’s not about who will win! It’s about who will bring back the economy to where it once was, and enhance it better than it was before. It’s about equality for the public servants, allowing Dominicans to be competitive in the work fields ( allow opportunities to enter Dominica). People make a nation, ask yourself what is the unemployment rate versus the GDP (OKUN’S LAW). If you do not know what GDP is Google it. Google Dominica’s GDP and reason it out with the definition of GDP. Are you happy with what you see? Dominicans, ask your self are you happy with your country economically? are you happy with your country minus the sewo? Do you ever wake up in the morning and feel like you are stagnant? ASK YOUR SELF: WHAT DO I NEED? not what do I want. I am not on a rant for UWP , I am not on a rant for the Dominica labour party. I am on a rant for us as Dominicans to put our selves first.

People dress up and go to these rallies and I wonder if they really listen , process, understand, and are knowledgeable at the end of the rallies. Some Dominicans never challenge these Political men, they need our vote, we do not need to give them a vote unless we see they are doing good for US. WE PUT THEM IN OFFICE TO WORK FOR US, not us working for them.

Yes, politicians will say things against each other and call out all the faults, but that has nothing to do with development of the country to make it better than it already is or to bring it from the ground up to the sky. A leader of a nation attitude impacts the attitude of the people. Dominica is not worst than any other island or country. Dominica is blessed and will remain blessed. God can heal , but why did he make Doctors? ASK YOUR SELF.

At the end of that day, when all votes are counted. It’s only DOMINICANS who have to live everyday in Dominica. 5 years of hardship and development? or 5 years of hardship and development?

Both have hardship but which hardship is better?

The God of Abraham Isaac and Jacob . Father I pray that as u did so many million years ago. That you separate that red sea, and let your people go. . Deliver your people from the hands of the Pharaoh who is rising up on my lovely island Dominica. This man has literally placed himself as God as did the Pharaoh so many years ago..We are seeing the victimization and the onslaught of a new generation of evil. Father Father open that red sea..so your people can walk free. In Jesus name . Amen.

Now Skerrit – you made a big mistake – too big too fast for that campaign. Recently, you had no money for salary increases and now you have for billboards and a stage better than what you used for our INDPENDENCE day? I had to call you on that. The best thing that both Lennox and Skerrit can do is stop calling each other’s names and talk about one main thing – their plan for Dominica. Lennox if you continue with how you did it at Joshua’s launching then you are on your way. Now Skerrit, it is your turn to do the same – tell us that plan.
Now UWP stop that Diaspora bashing – it’s not working. Listen to Thompson speech instead – working with the Diaspora not about if Skerrit bringing people to vote. We are the ones helping Dominicans at home so stop that shunning business – it is very upsetting. If a Dominican want o return home to vote, it’s our right – that is true of expatriates worldwide and – the law does say if you have been home within 5 years you can vote so why is everyone being categorized as a voter being brought in by Skerrit? Maybe the UWP should be encouraging instead the legal ones to come in and not stock on giving orders to Dominicans abroad not to vote – LEAVE that issue ALONE PLEASE.

Dominicans my advice is to listen to both parties: your vote is important. Don’t let the glamour be your guide. Lennox get a person to sponsor some blue polo shirts for informal events like in Harlem – that “brokes” look not working during election time. UWP did that when they first started – what happened – where is the official look with the nice blue suit, white shirt and blue tie? Don’t be fooled, IMAGE is important. Labour Party – your dress code looked tops.
Now what about a plan and content in all this? The speech by Joseph Issac was very good but Joshua Francis was just POWERFUL. That man’s personal story alone deserves a vote by Dominicans. His speech was not about personal attacks – he presented a plan & addressed real life issues – that is what our politicians should be taking about. Then I thought, no one can top that one but Lennox’s speech topped everyone. Finally, civil servants should have some hope with that 5 % Lennox plan to give. And yes, I hope the youth take both Lennox and Skerrit to task and ask for a debate. I don’t know what the fear is – competition is healthy.

Is this the same UWP that was brain washing the people of Giraudel some years ago by laying loose pipes all along the village road so that the villagers who had yearned water for many years would feel that one of their very own in the person of Mr. Bell would actually do the trick for them just before a general election? It was nothing but a gimmick, and off course the water did come running through the pipes but tanks to Ambrose George Roosevelt Skerrit and the DLP. Is this the same UWP that rush to Roseau Valley claiming they were going to build a road, and had contracted a Trinidadian firm only to find that there were some 45gallon drums placed on the work site as the only evidence of road works and a retracing found that there was infact no road building company from Trinidad by the name given? Folks, we can go on and on with mal administration by this very UWP when they were given that one chance to govern, they squandered it doing absolutely nothing or next to nothing, just ask them to point out the many accomplishments and successes in their time in office and please compare during any 4.5yr period of the then Freedom party govt and any 4.5yrs of this DLP. The case is clear the point is made, let the votes be cast and counted on Dec 8. The DLP is undoubtedly the working team for Dominica and the so called workers bunch are being taught how the work is done. They were never interested in governance, they stayed out of parliament for years, whereas the people voted

Yes Gonslaves played skerrit for a fool, and stole the ideas of the workers party to benefit his country. An international airport would have meant more work for Dominica. If Gonsaves played our PM and the DLP for fools who else are playing Skerrit for a fool. The Syrians, Morocco, the Chinese. ? Young and old alike must ask questions.

      November 10, 2014

You are conveniently forgetting how the former leader of he uwp, Eddison James, denied Dominica of a state of the art international airport by writing to the US government and preventing them from under going the most important task of building our international airport ( you can read the letter on facebook.com/nextlevelshow ) then later try to fool us with a plan for an international airport which turned out to be nothing more than a death trap, borrowed money at commercial rates for the same then used most of that money to pay civil servants.

Dominican elections mirrors different everyday aspects of DA society such as a bus ride from Roseau to the country… allow me to explain in simple terms… if you’re on a bus, the bus is running and the engine is nice and hot the vehicle is moving, would you stop it to change the driver midway? Would you change the driver because he/she driver isn’t driving fast enough for some, or he/she driving too slow for others, some people will want their windows up, some people want their windows down, the bellerz sitting infront, some getting a free ride because dey pretty, some people foot squeezing, some people doh have money for the ride, the cadek doh even have a seat but he’s helping everybody get situated on the bus, some of us have too much load yet others will make space for us even if we all paying the same price for the ride… some people make mapwi saying that the driver charging more $ than other drivers. Yet when it start to RAIN heavy everybody on the bus forgets his/her differences and stay quiet because they know the driver needs to concentrate on the road, they don’t want the driver to roll down a precipice, hit another vehicle or get caught in a landslide… everybody now wants the driver to drive slow, everybody now closes their windows, everybody starts to pray secretly in their heart for a safe drive, praying they made the right choice for the bus driver to bring them safely home… not one person will argue, attack, or disrupt the bus driver because they know that man and only that man with Gods guidance can bring them home safe… well my friends it’s RAINING hard hard hard in DA, nobody wants to get wet, nobody wants the driver to put them down, and nobody want the bus to stop in the middle of the road, turn off the engine and pick up a new bus drive. A driver that don’t know the road or where the bus was going to try and drive us in this kind of rain!! Changing bus drivers will never stop the rain, knowing your driver is already halfway there, will get you home and that’s what matters HOME. Who will collect the bus fare the new hijacker or the real bus driver. UWP ALLU DOH READY YET myb nxt tym!

    • Bus Driver
      November 10, 2014

Unfortunately Your Bus Story is missing some key elements…..

This is a big coaster bus and to get from Roseau to the country safely it needs more than just a driver. It need someone on each side of the bus to make sure its following the road and someone to watch the back to prevent accidents while reversing. The current driver is the third in the line of drivers this bus has had since leaving Roseau. The first and most senior driver had to pay the current driver to even help in navigating the bus before leaving Roseau but unfortunately could not hold on to the driver seat. The replacement driver was only able to get as far as 1/4 of the way before the current driver stabbed him in the back when he asked for help and was loosing control of the bus. This current driver now decided to take control of the bus without having taken one driving test before. He has no clue how to actually drive so he needs someone to control the steering wheel while another controls the foot pedals. The current driver just loves the “Driver” title and enjoys the driver seat and collecting the bus fare. He only allows a select few passengers to ride free provided that they are dressed in his colors while others have to pay increased fares as the bus travels on it’s way. For those passengers he don’t care too much for they are forced to find themselves holding on to outside of the bus exposed to whatever bad weather the bus might encounter. Even with 3 drivers controlling this bus has many accidents causing numerous injuries to passengers while the bus is not even getting closer to its final destination. The navigation team fears the driver and is therefore useless. All this is happening while other buses who travel the same route make it to their destination because their drivers are experienced. Nothing beats a good experienced and competent driver but the current driver does not want to give up and wants to stay no matter what his passengers say. This bus needs a new driver and navigation team if it has any chance of reaching close to it’s destination. The driver MUST GO. TIME FOR A NEW ONE!

      November 10, 2014

My answer to you is dat where I live nothing like that takes place. The driver starts work at a certain time, midway thru the journey he stops and an announcement comes on saying ” this bus will stop here for a short while for a change of driver” they recognise that after a couple of hours the driver needs a rest. The other problem with your analogy is that the current driver after a long shift still hasn’t gotten to grips with proper driving practices and constantly has to consult others to direct him. So with that in mind the people on the bus need to change their driver if they are to get to their distinction safely.

      November 10, 2014

Ok point taken but if the bis driver is the only perosn benefitting, I AM NOT RIDING ON THAT BUS! There has to be a mutual benefit to both participants…..

        November 10, 2014

wasn’t the only reason for you getting on the bus reaching your destination? what else do you want from the bus driver? some of the money he made… maybe you were taking the bus to work, eventually you got to work safe and THEN you made whats yours….

If you where hiring for a job position, had two candidates … someone with over 10 years experience versus someone who just came out of college would you hire the college grad… NO! of course not because you need someone with experience in the position. But if you’re the hiring manager that have your own agenda/experience but want someone else to take the blame in the position, you will hire the person that just came out of college to run the country a Tululu for the role so you can control dem like a popot. The popot tululu will face the crowd while you pulling strings in his back! Lennox has never ever in his life held political office nor has he ever admitted to any failure because you first must do something in order to fail or succeed… he’s done noting to this point!

My party looks very good in Marigot, Wesley, Grand Fond, La Plain and Salsbury and it is safe to say we are very safe in those five constituencies. I consider Roseau North, Central, Valley, St. Joe, Castle Bruce, Salybia, are constituencies that are there for the taking and we better put our both hands up and grab them by force, and make sure we win the election. As we maintain the pressure in these constituencies, others like Roseau South, Mahault, Colihault an others will soften and fall into our arms, just as Jericho fell without much effort. I do not like the two consecutive nights we spent in Roseau South as I believe it would be much better in Roseau North and Roseau Central.

I’v been to England, various parts in the USA, Canada, These countries are mighty and have wealth, I saw people sleeping on card boards under bridges in the cold weather, some of them are from the Caribbean. Stop this lie about you have traveled to various Caribbean islands and still find beggars……….There islands I have traveled to and have not met not one beggar….St Maarten, in Port of Spain, Barbados, Nevis…….Now even if there are other islands with beggars, lets look at these islands’ including Dominica’s population number vs the ratio of beggars….we us having such a small population 5 beggars are much too much!

Now I wont ever compare America and the other great nations to the Caribbean islands. It just wont make sense to do so…..we need to start comparing other Caribbean islands against other Caribbean islands.

On another note why doesnt the PM ever mention St Luica in his comparison with how well we fared in the time when BIM sent home workers and blah blah blah…..SLU is out sister island, lets do some comparison there!!!!!! You know why he wont….because we are left in the dirty when it comes to development and economic development in comparison to SLU…..So not because it’s your party you have to turn a blind eye to the real issues that are mounting and are not being addressed.

UWP, my party, should have been in Roseau North last night and then Roseau Central today. Furthermore, they need to continue to place emphasis on the economy and their vision for Dominica, and let people understand how they will make Dominica a better place to leave and enjoy life. They need not try to match multimillionaire Skerrit, who has the ability to spend big money to bring top musicians to Dominica but instead they need to concentrate on the message. WoW! DLP had a massive crowd and they all dressed in red. Nice try putting pictures side to side but there is no way in hell (UWP) Harlem plaza which is very small  could contain the large number of people seen at DLP Bayfront function that is open space and a sea of DLP supporters! Sadly not good reporting on the part of DNO!

    • fools verses wise
      November 9, 2014

@DAHMAN, you need to awake from your sleep and face reality. If you really care about your country and the need for an international airport, I urge you to put your political biasness aside and consider the following. In 4.5 years in government with a 1 seat majority in Parliament, the facts are there to prove that UWP REALLY intended to build an international airport by purchasing all the lands necessary for the airport and moved the existing St. Andrews High School since it was in the way of the airport. On the other hand, your DLP has been in power for almost 15 years, and this time with an 18:3 majority, and here are the facts as it relates to an international airport. The lands purchased for the international airport by the UWP rejected and returned to farmers; your DLP brought down the PM of St. Vincent, Mr. Ralph Gonsalves, to a DLP rally just to tell Dominicans that we DO NOT NEED an airport, which was applauded by supporters including myself, who was a then strong dlp supporter, only to see him go back to STV and build an international airport with grants from the same Tiwanese that we rejected in DA. Furthermore, as proof that the dlp has no plans for an international airport, your party wasted over $130 Million on night landing, which did not even last a year. Furthermore, your party told us that they signed a contract with a Chinese firm for an In / Air, but as of this date he is not sure where it will be built. You sound educated my brother/sister, so please stop using your education as another tool to help fool others who are less fortunate than you, in believing and promoting the lies of Skerrit. Ian Dog needs to help you understand how he was fooled by Skerrit already and yet decides to be fooled again

      • .
        November 10, 2014

Your part borrowed money at a commercial rate which the used to pay civil servants. It turned out anyway that what they intended to build was a death trap. By the way who wrote the Americans and prevented us from having our international airport at little cost to us? What a shame!

nice crowd for the DLP but it translate to votes. what we are seeing is all the people who are going to vote labour coming in for a free jam. I was there too, so what does that mean. NOTHING. I notice workers supporters keeping a low profile and not talking too much and i agree with them, let your vote do the talking and partying. Wear any colour you want to the convensions, blue red, black yellow, purple, oragane green, it don’t matter, just go and listen to what the team Dominica UWP people have to say and you will be glad you did cause you have to listen to both side to decide who you will vote. I do. You do not need to have a blue shirt to go to the meeting or to vote, it is just a colour. You need a good message not a bright colour t-shirt. . But I am not sure i would like more of the same, so i am leaning UWP and the crowd at the beres concert did not do anything to help DLP cause.

According to a reliable source, the DLP’s budget for the election campaign is E. C. $34, 810, 000, in other words, thirty four million, eight hundred and ten dollars. The alleged approximate $35 million spending on fetes etc. to win an election, must be seriously concerning not only to the UWP but to the Public Servants, who will not receive an increase of salary for the next three years. PWD Workers, who have reported publicly, they have not received a salary in four fortnights. Firefighters, who had to take actions against Government because they were deprived of a proper bed to sleep. Police, who puts their lives on the line to protect the Prime Minister and Dominicans. Nurses, who have to hitch a ride after leaving work at all hours of the day and particularly late nights. The families, friends, even enemies of the above workers and other Dominicans who are not sure where the next meal is going to come from. The 75% of young people which we are told does not have a job. The Prime Minister has taken full responsibility for the economical disaster which has befallen Dominica. In fact, last night he called himself a big bad wolf, regardless, he still wants another five years, I leave that to the conscience of the nation.

    November 9, 2014

I believe uwp is in a better position of winning than DLP, why? Lets use these statistics,
we all know that 90 percent of DLP supporters follow their rallies, ok,they have more cash , They have free transportation , free fuel , free food , free top up sometimes, free internet , now they will be having free tablet , free laptop ,flat screen tv free money ETC,,NO FREE THINKING, no indipendancy, ok we also know that 50 percent of UWP supporters follow their ralleys, they have free choice , they living free they eating free ,they speaking freely, thinking freely, they dressing freely, they are mentally free, ok ,high level of independancy, ,ok ,
NOW,what we dont see is more dangerous than what we see ,mark my words ,
80 percent of the voters who will not go to ralleys are the ones who are afraid of being victimized by this administration , In other words ,SILENT MAJORTY,these are the voters that make the difference ,they decides the government , So for dlp to win convincingly ,their croud must be twice and more ,the size of UWP crowd ,which we have not been seeing at all , Secondly , CUt off the freeness ,and uwp will definitely ,with no doubt attract more supporters than DLP,If you dont believe me ,ASK skeritt to try doing it for only one time , ONLY ONCE ,lets see, So do your maths DOMINICANS and lets see who is king

After you have exhausted yourself, remind your Great-White-Hope leader that it is “evil” to beg “poor and suffering” Dominicans to contribute to his bankrupt party.

You Diasporans have no clue, really!

The DLP will definitely crush the UWP! I can feel the might of the DLP by looking at these photos. Great to see the women, particularly, Ms. Daniel. Such a phenomenal woman! DLP, for the continued development of Dominica!

I must commend the Labour party on their dressing.. They look like real responsible men that are ready to run the country for another 5 years, where as the UWP Rights are all dressed up like men ready to run a football game.. That’s says alot..

I’ll rest my case on this one… See you Dominica soon…

Don’t you know people are supposed to dress to suit the occasion. The event at Harlem Plaza was a casual event.

You do not have to respond to foolish observations. Right now people will say or do anything , the Westminster system left us with this “cuss”. There’s work to be done.
