Prime Minister of Dominica, the Honourable Roosevelt Skerrit, has expressed feelings of sadness upon learning of the passing of Trinidad’s former Prime Minister, Patrick Manning.

Mr. Manning died early Saturday after being diagnosed with blood cancer. He was 69.

“I received the news of the passing of the Honourable Patrick Manning, former Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago with profound sadness,” Skerrit says in a statement issued this morning. “Honourable Manning was a sincere advocate for regional integration. As a young man, I was very fortunate to have worked with him. May his Soul with the mercy of God rest in eternal peace.”

According to a statement posted on his Facebook page, “at 8:15AM today, Former Prime Minister Patrick Augustus Mervyn Manning, passed away peacefully at the San Fernando General Hospital after battling Acute Myeloid Leukemia.”

On Friday, his wife, Hazel Manning, a former education minister, said her husband was being prepared to undergo treatment after it was confirmed that he had been suffering from Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

Manning served as Trinidad & Tobago prime minister on two occasions between 1991-2010.

When people are especially sick, the inevitable is expected at any time.
Life is short and death is sure. We know not when that day will come. Only God knows.
    Mourn with those who mourn.
My condolence to his wife and family.
The same goes to T & T nationals and others who knew him, as his associates throughout the world who faithfully supported him during his political years and thereafter and who are now rightfully saddened and mourn his passing.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him.
May his soul rest in peace. Amen!

All the forcing and fighting..then what???In a split moment the candle light of life is blown out…In stead of being saddened sir…take it as an example…Life is very short and futile these days…And so,it’s not what you did for yourself, your country, your family, etc but rather what you did for HIM…the ONE who blows the light of life out…

      “fussing”
This goes for each and everyone of us. Since we are alive, we have to make the most of opportunities. This is, to do what we can as circumstances present themselves.
God understands that we will do our best through thick and thin with his God-given allotted time. When that day comes it comes. No one has control over it. For some it is short; for others it is long.
Humans have feelings. They get hurt by the inconsiderate attitude of others, putting it mildly. It is normal, human nature will fuss and whatever else. It all boils down to, this is life. Granted, age brings reason and should. Can anyone say they are immune from it? If they are, then they are not human but from Mars with no feeling for this is not how human beings have functioned from the beginning of time. So will it be to the end of time. .

People are different. We are not created one and the same way. We act and react differently. Each in a different manner according to his/her character and personality traits and how each one accepts the challenges/hardships/grief of life as they strive to do what they can. So much more could be stated.

Mr Manning was a perfect example of a leader; intelligent and politically sophisticated yet honest and simple. He never saw the need to abuse the power given to him by the people of Trinidad and Tobago and understood that nation building meant enlisting more than just party supporters but all who had skill and competencies so to do. Much to emulate. Rest in perfect peace sir.

RIP Mr Manning……Wish my poor Dominica had someone of your caliber ruling now..I never read that you asked your supporters to declare war on the opposition, you did not cheat, lie and steal
as one particular Caribbean leader is noted for,,and during your reign T&T had strong institutions and the voting process was fair…
MAY YOUR SOUL REST IN PEACE!!!!

Do you understand what u just wrote or do u have any knowledge of the political history of Trinidad and Tobago? Coruption existed unabated under all Trinidadian leaders including the great Eric Williams, Manning was no exception.

Full knowledge. Not taken to gossip and blind worship of men like a half-whit such as you. Their country is way more advanced that ours and it is because of the policies such as those brought forward by Mr. Manning. in addition to this he was not childish. Many opposition members and supporters confessed that they were engaged to do work which Mr. Manning knew they were equipped to do. Change your attitude and Dominica will grow.

This may be petty to some but what is more important here? PM sadness or the death of the former prime minister of T&T. Should we send labourites to villecase to console him or should we send sympathy to the people of T&T. I don’t care whether PM sad or not..

May his soul rest in peace. It would be safe to say that he fulfilled a good purpose on this Earth. Hopefully during his working years he left Trinidad & Tobago, and the World by extension, a better place than he met it.

My advice to you Mr. 4th term two timing 7th chapter Lord Skeritt is to honor the man by copying some of his legacy and integrating it into your plywood giving society. Maybe that could be a springboard for better days ahead for our hungry jobless population. This man has an important role to play in the success that Trinidad is today. This beautiful T&T was built on solid principles and deep thoughtful clear vision, not a multimillion termite infested plywood giving plan that was sponsored by selling their passports. Learn from great leaders, take a page from their book and read it. I’m on the island right now, couldn’t help but notice that the Bajan Roseau river project has stalled. Can’t believe how easy it is for his majesty to fool his subjects. That playpark ramp next to the Layou Bridge has also been resurfaced instead of them fixing the road. Oh lord save us from this man and the dark days Dominica is experiencing. Labor is a cancer that has no cure

Condolences to the Family of Mr Manning and the peoples of Trinidad and Tobago.

Glad you are on island Floridian Diaspora! As usual looking for things to criticize and blame someone you know who. Please go all around the Island and take a look at what was suffered in this beautiful Country of ours avant ou wastay Roseau. Go visit the countryside & you will see the effects of Erica although not raw as was last year. We have come a long way without your help (the only help you give is criticize, hate, blame). If you saw, you would agree that such setbacks needs lots of money & our rugged landscape as well. The greenery around are not money & cannot be shaken. Alas wish it was but is not. Thank Father Jehovah 4 lush greenery. What have you done? The playpark ramp in St Joe/Layou is your assignment. Why not mobilise some persons & lets see your expertise show. I guess you can make the first contribution. Put your money not your mouth. Others will follow. Use mouth to…
