The police in Dominica say they have called off a search for Elisha Hill and Dylan Hypolite of Pointe Mitchel because all resources have been exhausted and they cannot continue searching ‘indefinitely.’

The men left Pointe Mitchel at about 10 pm on Wednesday August 1st in a 16-foot open keel boat but have not returned since.

“They are still missing,” police PRO Inspector John Carbon told Dominica News Online. “The coast guard has called off the search because they cannot search indefinitely.”

He said Martinique search units have also been looking for the men for the past days,  and their efforts continue.

Reports are that the boat, registration # J7031PTM, belongs to Denison Etienne also of Pointe Michel.

Etienne told police that the men borrowed his boat to go on a fishing trip and he received a call from Hill the following day, Thursday August 2, at about 2pm, informing him that “they (Hill and Hypolite) had encountered engine problems and were drifting towards Martinique.”

Etienne said he tried, later that day, to call the missing men on a cell phone which Hill was carrying but said he had  received “no response” from them.

I would not speculate and state that they are involved in wrongdoing why they went out to sea at such a time.
I am still hoping that they are found, alive and well. This is something else, leaving home to go fishing, as it is stated at 10:00 pm.
It is a mystery. If they were drifting to Martinique, something must have been wrong with the boat. Due to high waves, water may have seeped in the boat or the waves lashed the boat with water and caused it to sink. If this occurred, think of their dilemma during that time. Still, let us hope they are safe. I can imagine the anguish of their relatives. Let us pray that they are safe.
Their families keep praying and keep up the spirit of hope. At this time no one knows about their whereabouts. There could be still hope for their survival, I pray.

If it were a movie, I would say dem fellas pulled a fast one. They borrowed the boat, call from their cell phone a day later to say they were drifting. Nice movie plot for disappearing act. Nonetheless, lets pray for their safe return.

Our children must listen when we speak to them and they must always choose the right friends. I, too, want to voice my opinion is this a fishing expedition? It’s time we know who are our friends. Drug dealers are not our friends. All they care about is their money. I hope others will learn from that “fishing expedition”. Let’s continue to pray for them.

Every time I hear that story a thing taking me. So they call off search and what about the boat man and the others Police dont have them for questionning etc we want answers we want answers. The boat owner’s story makes NO SENSE. ow can you borrow someone your boat on Wednesday and Thursday morning no sign of your boat and you yet to do anything. You say you got a call on Thursday at 2 pm and stating they had engine problem etc etc and you yet to help you yet to call coast guard or police. why tell us why. you wait for till later to call them back and then you going out with your pardner in crime boat. you yet to call police nor coast guard why tell us why. what about the other boat who went out with them the person and boat came back why no mention of this in your story. why tell us why. why is only on friday evening one of the parents got to know that their son missing. why you and your pardners in crime didnt go tell the woman her son missing. we want answers. what are the authoristies doing about the boat owner and the others we want answers The did not go fishing tell the police what happen etc we want answers

The authority/police need to take the owner of the said boat in custody for questioning, they need to grill Denison and the other guy he went out with, there is more to that

Some other country he would be taken into custody for heavy duty grilling, he knows exactly what took place and as far as the word is out there that was not no fishing expedition, some dad deal went wrong

Well who don’t want to hear will suffer the consequences. Why don’t the boat owner organise a search is so they just send people children on so called fishing expedition.

Seems like the police wrote this off as a case of “aller salpet”. Real sad. Yes, on an earlier post, I raised a number of questions with this whole incident. Regardless of how we (and the police) feel about the circumstances surrounding these guys disappearance, they should put a little more effort into the search. At the very least, don’t they want to know what’s in the boat? Tuna, snapper, coke? Shuddy police work.

why should the police waste their time and look for two drug traffickers. Their disappearance is a plus to the police and the Dominican society. Two less rougue and vagabond to give police trouble and spoil ppl children with their drugs. If the almighty father was pleased with their efforts to traffic drugs to destroy his ppl he would have made them return safely. they were cast out! If it was a clean mission the good lord would have guided them back safely.

I too wonder about the offical explanation. ‘they went on a fishing expedition?. Waht fishinh expedition. The police must report what they are told, that I understand that. But the story on the streets of Pointe Mitchel is so much different to what the police is saying.

Well, this is what the Fisheries Division have been talking about along. Is not just having a “big” boat. Radio equipment on a boat is a MUST. Position of Longitude and Latitude would have been detected immediately. Hope they’re still alive.

I find the police giving up the search too quickly. It not yet even have a week yet. There is a possibility that the two men could have drifted towards Martinique. Anyways…lets hope for the best…

It’s nothing about heartless and neither do i want to judge anyone, but in that kind of weather all fishermen at their home. Why did those two guys decide to go FISHING and at 10pm? Hmmm..Strange! Strange!! Strange!!! Still hope they find their way home cause they should have been smarter than that.

You are being prejudiced and anyone can see what you are assuming. Do you know the number of people who fish at night? Everything doesn’t have to be drugs remember that please they may actually be 2 young men plying their trade and that’s not so strange.

You wont understand or are u simply one of those who want to cover up what happen “I DONT CARE ” knows what they are referring to. when they say strange strange. you dont because you not from Pointe Michel. They did not go to fish. Pointe blank. speak the truth. It has nothign to do with drugs neither ok hhhmmmmmmmmmm use ur God give brains. these boys were sent on a mission. think of the missions done at sea late at nights. If it was really fishing wouldnt the boat owner call the police and coast guard right away. think of it wouldnt you ..THINK THINK

  29. Hot debate. What do you think? Thumb up 5 Thumb down 14 Anonymous August 7, 2012

What do they mean all resource have been exhausted? Is there a time limit on searching for people? In American, (I know we are not America, but we follow them none the less) they search for people for years. This is such a sad story. God please guide these youth home safely.
