UPDATE: Missing Pointe Michel teen found

Rianna was found on Sunday morning

Dominica News Online (DNO) can confirm that 16 year-old Rianna Serrant of Pointe Michel who was reported missing yesterday (Saturday March 9), has been found.

Journalist, Matt Peltier told DNO moments ago, that he was at police headquarters and had confirmed that the teenager was found this morning and had been taken to Princess Margaret Hospital. He said at the time the girl’s parents were also at police headquarters.

Police reported on Saturday morning (Saturday 9th March 2019) that the Pointe Michel teen had been abducted that same morning close to the Community Centre in the village by two unknown men and called for assistance from the public in locating the missing girl.

According to Police PRO, Inspector Simon Edwards, at the time of the incident which occurred at about 9:40 am, Rianna was on her way to her grandma’s home in Pte. Michel.

Her father said in an interview with Matt Peltier on Saturday, that Rianna had informed her family of her predicament via a text message.

DNO will continue to follow this story and bring more information as it becomes available.

ya right we will hear nothing from dno after this. Stop worrting us a bout missing people when u all tell us nothing about their whereabouts. We need to know. We all can be aware of how these thugs operate so we can protect our children. Why the cover up. Its a crime. Otherwise don’t tell us. Just find her and dont make it news. I spent the night worried and praying for the child I have children too. At least I can and we can know how these people go about kidnapping etc. So we can ppritect ourselvea bettwr

Very sad state of affairs that we are facing on my once peaceful land. This is an unheard thing back in the day. When there are no jobs in a land the people will create their own.

Continuation: I know the father is not lying because some time last year I was robbed somewhere in town at around after 7pm I was left no shoes on my feet no phone to call anyone and i was also bleeding really bad. someone was kind enough to lend me their phone to call the police so obviously I was shaky and crying the officer stopped me from speaking and was very rude to me he told me ” miss I cannot hear you and you crying too much so you will have to come to the station tomorrow when you more relaxed” the man never asked me if I’m injured, what is my location to come and assist me, NOTHING!! and till this day I remember his words to me. Now that same night I had my bf come get me and he brought Me to the station to get a form to bring to the hospital since I was assaulted and while I was giving my story I could hear that same officer wispering to someone that I am lying. Those officers need to do better !!! But that God the child is home safe , that officer needs to be fired! !!

You want to see them toy police in numbers? Well just let the opposition parties organise a gathering and certain politicians tell them idiots to go and intimidate… I have referred to this police force CDPF as a failed institution adnauseam!!!! It’s nothing more, nothing less .

Happy ending, praises. While I have respect for police work, some of the police personnel appear to have absolutely no training to deal with humans in a traumatic situation. Impatient, Rude and hostile are some words which come to mind. They need to be screened using a psychological test. It’s key to know why the candidate chose law enforcement. Some traits include: Judgment, Reasonable courage, lack of bias, Appropriate attitude,Ability to tolerate stress & professionalism. How many police have these? Similar to Unknown female, I’m aware at times no empathy is expressed during reporting of a crime. While the work of police is not easy & is important to law and order, some may be square pegs in round holes and just need a job, but do not want the work which comes with it. It makes the public reluctant to report a crime due to lack of confidence, fear of disrespect and that an efficient job will not be done. Good officers are mixed with the bad and trust is eroded. Change is needed.

after erika i walked miles to get to the headquarters. in tears. so many family members died. i couldnt even speak sobbing and trying to get to my family and info., i can still see the two officers faces and i will always remember it and i swear to god you will come to me one day for help and i will grant it to you but i will also send you to a sleepless year of guilt for how you treated me.
they were even laughing technically and the first one called the second to say come and see if you understand what she saying there i myself cannot. and he continued with his paperwork like nothing happened. they were of no help and dismissed me. 14 family members dead. and i am in shock and grief begging for information
may god deal with you all justly
i forgive you but i will never forget

So I understood that her dad went to the station and the police said he does not have time for that. These officers do not have any heart for women, even the female officers are the same. Only when it hits home they react, take for example the officer who got into an altercation with the man in town for messaging his under age child , now I am not saying he is wrong to react that was but if it was someone else’s child you think he would have done all that ? Policy officers need to handle all matters with urgency as if it was their loved ones involved, I do understand that some young girls cry wolf but that still doesn’t mean we should treat all situations like these as if the child went and meet her man Smh.

These lines about police response to drug crimes as opposed to others is so stale. Can’t we be a little more creative? Let us all hope and pray that the young lady is found safe and that the perpetrators of this animalistic act be brought to justice and face the full consequences of their evil actions.

Your comment is one of someone mentally challenged! First we are not in USA nor do we want to be like them! Second why are you mixing apples and grapes. Jeez man you have no idea what the police officers are doing nor do you know about the procedure for an alleged kidnapping!

Why does this comment have so many dislikes? Dominicans hate to admit certain things and police men and their incompetence is one of them!! That’s why we cannot move forward because of fixing issues we sweep them under the mat and when we do realise the issues pile up like mountain.

Please note that she was abducted and not that she ran away from home!!!! Sadly after this traumatic incident and the police will have work their butts off to bring those psycho to justice they will get a slap on the wrist. The young lady will still be dealing with the trauma and having to see those vagabonds in the street reminding her of what they out her through. The judges and lawyers are the primary cause of the frequency of those crimes. The discretionary sentencing powers if the judge needs to be fixed with a minimum sentence of 2t years. In that way the young girl will have grown a d dealt with the effects of the experience before those animals can be reintroduced into civilized society. Shooting deaths like the one in Salisbury will never end cause people have little faith in the justice system. I hope she is able to identify her abductors and they are compelled to kill themselves in Lagoon, Roseau in the middle of the day. They deserve to kill each other in public view.

Unbelievable…. “Don’t have time” I hope the d/can government take Swift action against this officer and his Superior… So third world
FIRED….. Both of them and that’s bcuz of a lack of education

  23. March 9, 2019

I just listen to the father of this young women crying about his daughter while these sons of …….. seating in there playing dominoes and watching TV talking about he “don’t have time”
The police dpt in Dominica is so incompetent it’s unbearable. This guys get in there with such a lack of education only to bully ppl, they don’t even know the law of the land they don’t read you your rights nothing, I can’t see myself going back to live in such primitive conditions in 2019….I hope the government the head of the dpt realized what is happening and that officer should be fired also the Sargent in that precinct. FIRED.
How on Earth that this parent should have to leave his home head to Roseau just to send him back while these guys in there have no care in the world but to drink rum, play dominoes and mess with young girls…..

I wish for the young lady to be found shortly unharmed. Too many of the young men in Dominica are choosing a life of crime. Could you imagine the emotional impact on this female teenager? I hope the police leave no stone unturned in locating the young lady and apprehending the reprobates.
