Dominica Labour Party (DLP) candidate for the Colihaut Constituency, Catherine Daniel has outlined a number of plans for her constituency if her party is re-elected into office.
Daniel, who was addressing supporters at a DLP rally held in Colihaut on Thursday night, promised to meet the needs of residents of that constituency.
“From Colihaut, as I spoke with different people, I heard your needs, your need for a feeder road,” she said. “I heard your need for a much needed Health Centre, you want your Health Centre constructed. I heard your cry for the erection of a police station for Dublanc. I heard about the resource Centre, I heard you want to complete that.”
She said a sporting facility is being contemplated for Dublanc.
“I heard your cry for a sporting facility, a community that nurtured in Dublanc Shane Shillingford, the community that nurtured Luan Gabriel and I think that we should be so proud of these sporting icons that we need to upgrade the sporting facility in Dublanc, complete that small pavilion and let us name it after these two icons so that our young people can see and emulate what these two icons, Luane and Shane, brought to their community,” she said.
According to Daniel, the many concerns raised by residents of Bioche will also be addressed.
“And one of your cry was for a communal sewerage disposal system. I did a little research on that and there is a little difficulty but it is not insurmountable. It can be achieved in ways but a discussion has to be made,” she said. “I cannot promise you that it will be fixed within the next two to three years but I can promise you we will listen and do the best.”
She said there will be land reform in Bioche.
“I heard your demand in Bioche for land reform because a lot of you said the villages are too small, you need expansion and we are also looking at this,” Daniel said. “I heard your plea for housing development … this we have started and will continue but we will look on the needs basis and then what I want of you people, Dublanc, Bioche and Colihaut, I would like to see that community unity, that community of love so that when we decide to help people that the help goes to those most in need first.”
Meanwhile, outgoing MP for the Constituency, Ronald Toulon, endorsed Daniel at the rally saying she is a woman who loves Dominica.
“I wish to endorse and declare my public approval for Catherine Daniel as the next Parliamentary Representative of the Colihaut constituency,” Toulon said. “A woman who loves people, a woman who loves Dominica, a woman who loves progress. Catherine Daniel provides a shoulder for those of us who are struggling.”
He said he knows Daniel personally and called on all Labourites in the constituency to vote for her.
Daniel, who is making her first run for political office, will be facing Nicholas George of the United Workers Party (UWP) in the December 8 general election.
Did I hear that Miss Daniel said in Dublanc that she will do for Dublanc Bioche and Colihaut what was not done for them in the past fifteen years? What! Empty promises are comfort to fools. Lady go sit down and take care of the homeless people who need help. Give a younger person a chance. You have done your part already in society. Do u have grand children? spend some time with them. Take them to church, school and the park. Have lunch with them. They will never forget the time u spend with them. Leave politics alone.

Her constituent is very small; and with China money she can buy every vote in that hamlet. With the unemployment rate low as hell, the people would be glad to sell their votes for $15.00.

Is Catherine Daniel going up as an independent candidate or the political leader of a new party she just formed? Does she understand that the people of Colihault, Dublanc and Bioche know she is going up with the same DLP and Roosevelt Skerrit that have denied them all of those things she is talking about for the last 15 years? Ms. Daniel, says “I heard you” as if to suggest that the parlrep is the reason why the needs of the people were not heard and don’t Skerrit. Catherine Daniel needs to say “If Skerrit wills” before she makes promise and we know that is against the will of Skerrit.
I have one question: when the supporters of labour know to themselves that the promises roosevelt skerrit (note the house has been dissolved therefore he is not the prime minister) makes are not all true what goes through their mind? can someone be so misguided? if lennox wins and he starts forming the fool he won’t get my vote next election we need to say wrong as seen and right as seen and to be honest skerrit has done a number of things but he has also done a number of bad things too we don’t even know what the memorandum of understanding between china and dominica are.

This is a little disturbing. How long has Labour been in office? Why weren’t these plans put into action 5 or 10 years ago? I’m just a little confused here. Please think and ask questions people. Labour Party supporters should be a offended because apparently if you voted them into power twice why is there still so much to do? Your ‘leaders’ are giving you false hope, empty promises and bribing you with free alcohol and perishable free items because they think that’s all it takes to win your vote. @J – I heard Miss Daniel talking about fixing the only pavilion that is in the park in Dublanc. Aye y’all, this place has been in dismal shape for most of this government”s 15 years and nothing has been done by them to fix it.

I heard Her Leader Mr.Skerrit mentioned Lenox Linton’s name during his speech at least 30 to 50 times and is not the first time he has been doing that is like he is obsess with Linton’s name.
Will someone tell Mr. skerrit stop focusing on Linton and speak of his development plans for the country and stop telling each constituency that when labour wins it is their turn for development. his writers of his speeches must revisit what they wrote previously.

This is who she truly is. She loves to talk and dominate casual conversations but put her out to tell the same thing in a ccoherent, articulate setting and it’s sheer misery. All the pump n circumstance it’s a cover up. I remember my former high school teacher mauling this woman up at a forum. She had no idea what hit her and to this day yet to respond. She enjoys speaking on things she’s clueless about. Ma Daniel is all show that’s why people in education just ignore her and laugh at her back.
I have great respect for Ms Catherine Daniel as a friend and as a professional. It is nice to see that she has heard the needs and cries of the people of her constituency to deliver what the Labour Party has failed to deliver to them in the past 15 years! I have no confidence in the Dominica Labour Party to deliver but Catherine Daniel is no Gloria Shillingford, she will fight the PM if she has to for her to deliver for her people. She could even get rid of him!
Your mind told u that eh…so even if she fights. at the end of the day in another DLP admin the PM will most likely be the minister of finance again. So even if she kicks up dust until it all most clogs her airway and the PM decides he is not signing of on a project, what is her next move? Kick up more dust?

What a remarkable woman. I know for sure that she will definetly fulfill the needs of the people. Its a person like Ms Daniel we need. Gentle, kind, warm at heart and wonderful.

She has passed the age or retirement and refuses to step down so another unemployed person can get a job, instead she is there on contract with DLP . All these concerns that the residents/constituents has raised to this woman, does she realise that her party has been in power for 15yrs and they have obviously neglect the people of Colihaut. What makes her believe she can make a difference? It’s not about the parl rep with this dlp, it’s the dictator who controls what happens. The people of Colihaut cannot continue to vote for Skerrit. Team Dominica will address your concerns and bring much needed change and development to your constituency. Even a blind man can see through the dlp.

What a phenomenal woman! Ms. Daniel, you have paved the way for many of our successful adults today. You gave children hope, during the 80’s, when the system denied many of a bright future. Today, we have USE, which is very timely! Ms. Daniel, you will be rewarded on December 8th. May the Almighty bless you!
