Dalrymple, Blanc-Esprit top Roseau City council elections

Its official.

Fisherman Albert Dalrymple and manager Corinthia Blanc-Esprit have been elected to serve on the new Roseau City Council out of five candidates.

In the 2010 Roseau City Council Ward One general elections yesterday, Dalrymple and Blanc-Esprit secured majority of the votes.

The final count, according to the Electoral Office in Roseau, shows that Dalrymple got 185 votes while Blanc-Esprit received 178.

The two will join Mayor Cecil Joseph and other ward councillors in governing the affairs of the city when the new council is inaugurated shortly.

Joseph and the other ward councillors retained their positions on the council as they were unopposed  due to the fact no elections were held in their respective wards. A low turn-out of contesting candidates was the cause for this and elections were only held in Ward One.

It is likely that Joseph will be re-elected chairman of the council and mayor.

Among the other competing candidates were Accounts Clerk Kendra Stevens who placed third with 107 votes while bartender Karshama  I. Richards got 48 votes. Auto-body works specialist Lenny Jno Baptiste received 46 votes.

    @Watcher:

I made a statement. Call it an observation. I also asked a question and would love to receive a relevant response pertaining to that question.
You should have noted that I did not criticize the elect for I do not know them and what credentials they possess.

@Truth, Justice, Love, Peace and Unity: Why did you live out committment? There are those with all the degrees and certificates etc and there is no committment. Also love and listenning to persons comes into play there as well. If you can’t say something good then say nothing. There are brilliant persons out there who did not get the opportunity that the young persons are now receiving to further their education at the DSC and overseas. Those opportunities were not there before. Be open and broad minded.

@Food for Thought: Do you live in Newtown? Apparently not. There was this white goods clean up not too long ago. Who spearheaded this effort? Do you know? Well rightly you do not since the same persons voted for those who they know are doing what they have to do.

I am aware that in order to be an elect, certain credentials are necessary. What credentials are required to campaign for this position?
Would it not entail, at least elementary and high school certificate, college or university diploma/degree, reading, writing and communication? I would think for obvious reasons, these are absolutely necessary. I expect that those who were elected to this position would possess them.

@Food For Thought: Are you from the community or live in the community? Bc if so, i believe you would have known that the “Queen Contestant” can show SOME of her track records as follows?

    – Fete Charlotteville Committee? Secretary/Treasurer – organized Reunion celebrations

    – Newtown Development Committee? Secretary/Treasurer, thou non-functional for the time, this group participated in a number of fundraising events, had a few educational sessions, clean-up campaigns and visited almost all the elderly in the community.

    – Harlem Peace and Unity Group? Secretary/Treasurer – (i) Football by the Fisheries Complex for the youth – successful, (ii) fundraising activites, (iii) clean up campaigns (more scheduled for November 27 & 28th). Upcoming activities re Drugs and Alcohol abuse, Sports Intuned session, Historical Night (dates not scheduled as yet), Less Fortunate Drive.

    – Approached to be a committee member on Aicon Football Club (new club formulated)

So stop hating on the young lady and join a group too. Plus if you do your investigations you would notice that the 2 persons who won worked as a team, and she worked solely. And for a first timer against 2 seasoned councilors, she did pretty good.

Please enlighten me. Were ALL the residence of Ward One aware that there was a local election?

Did the elected do door to door so that people were aware of who they are?

I have not spoken to a single person from Ward One who voted, or even knew that there was to be an election. If they did know there showed no interest (considering most Dominicans claim to be political experts).

Good luck to the elected, lets just hope that their hearts and minds are focused on the job.

Aren’t these the same people the community said isn’t doing anything for the communities, especially Kingshill? This must be an election for lazy people since the same people have been elected back in. People ask for change when change is staring them in the face they cast a blind eye.

Good luck to the new council.
