Darroux says he is not distracted by critics

Darroux

Parliamentary Representative for the St. Joseph Constituency Kelver Darroux has said that criticism from a “few naysayers” will not budge him in his quest to represent his people.

Darroux told Dominica News Online in an interview that his main aim is to serve his constituency. He was responding to statements in the media from a several St Joseph residents who had accused him of abandoning the youth in his constituency and the people who voted for him.

“Once you have gotten into leadership position, especially in public life or public office, there will always be critics. Everybody is entitled to his or her opinion, that doesn’t mean that his or her opinions are facts. But as a member of parliament for St Joseph I have been humbled and committed to the community of St Joseph and the entire constituency by extension,” he said.

Darroux said that he sees it as his role and responsibility to ensure that the voice of his people is heard, adding, “And if there are a few critics out there, naysayers out there who want to chastise my role and my leadership then that’s fine. It’s only a matter for me to look at myself to realize how best I can improve on my leadership role in the community and address the issue concerning my people.”

When asked whether he believed he was doing an adequate job representing his constituency Darroux said, “Well that’s a question for the majority of the people to respond to.”

Darroux, at 30, won his seat in last year’s general elections over Henry John Abraham of the United Workers Party, Marcella Boatswain of the Dominica Progressive Party, and Roland Mitchel of the People’s Democratic Movement.

The intimation made here of having square pegs in round holes is properly noted in this post.

Trouble is, many of us so-called qualified persons stand on the sidelines, failing to offer up ourselves as a credible alternative. Yet when the people, in their informed judgment, choose from amongst those with the temerity to throw their hats in the ring, we whine and complain.

We (all of us) can cite dozens of university graduates, trained intellectuals, experienced business people at home on the ground, who stand aside and snipe, sneer, jeer and make all sorts of degrading remarks, but will not offer themselves up for leadership.

Lord knows, our country crave it.

In the words of more learned persons, “You get what you pay for.”

    Even in politics!

      PERFECT!!!! I LOVE IT!!!
I’m reading the comments here and saying to myself, hmmmmnnn….
People are complaining about Kelver being too young and too inexperienced??? First of all age has nothing to do with it… he is old enough to participate!

Secondly, how is someone suppose to gain experience if they do not take the first step? Was Edison, Mamo, Roosie, Pierre and others, experienced politicians when they first entered the political arena? …and i’m not talking about when they became PM’s

There has to be a first time! It’s like graduating from college in Dominica and searching for a job… All prospective employers wants someone with experience; not taking into consideration that the person will not have experience until they are actually hired.

SPECIAL DELIVERY TO: ABDULL BAYO BOIS,

BEFORE YOU CRITICIZE, CHECK YOUR WORD USAGE IN THE CONTEXT THAT YOU HAVE USED IT, BIG FELLA. IT IS NOT “BIT UP YOUR CHEST”…IT IS “BEAT UP YOUR CHEST…” IT APPEARS THAT YOU ARE THE MOO MOO, MOO MOO.

IF YOU ARE WILLING TO COME ON DNO AND THROW DUST, KEEP IN MIND THAT YOUR HANDS WILL ALSO GET DIRTY.

I find your remark to be insensitive and unwarranted. He is not beating up his chest. Do not sit on the sideline and criticize when there is no reason to do so. This is a young fellow who is trying his best to learn his craft. Let us give him a chance. We need young leaders. They will falter and fall sometimes. That is how people learn.
