Darroux says Petite Savanne Constituency ‘looking good’

Darroux

Parliamentary Representative for the Petit Savanne constituency, Dr. Kenneth Darroux, says the year is ending on a good note for the people in his constituency.

The MP, who has always been very vocal about his dissatisfaction with what he describes as ‘the snail’s pace’ at which his constituency was receiving government assistance, said “things are looking up”.

Darroux said 17 residents of Dubique will soon be owners of their land following a Cabinet decision to acquire and resell lots to them at 25 cents a square foot.

“Most of the lands in Dubique are private lands over the years as part of the Dubique estate. Government bought a large part of the estate and the land was sub divided for housing and agriculture. So far we have created 17 housing lots and government and Cabinet have decided to resell these lots at 25 cents a square foot. This means that in the next few weeks, 17 Dubique residents will own their lands,” Dr. Darroux said.

In addition, he said $60,000 has been allocated to Dubique, which he said will address some of the acute housing issues in that community.

“Since taking up the position as parliamentary representative, some three years ago, I have identified that housing is the most acute need in the Petit Savanne constituency. The money was made available through the Dubique Action for Development,” he said.

Dr. Darroux said the Dubique project is another way that government shows it is about empowering more local groups to manage the affairs of their respective communities,

“I have sat with the committee and we have identified some the most critical needs. It will not address all the acute issues in Dubique but we are hoping that it will make a positive start. The hope is that we will continue to receive allocations until we are able to eliminate all the housing issues that we have and reduce the plight of the Dubique area,” Dr Darroux said.

Several other projects are also in the pipeline for the Petit Savanne constituency, the MP said.

What you the ppl of this constituency can and should do though is to choose how you’re going to react to what happened.this is rather Disappointing… Some people use disappointments as fuel to make a change in their life and you need to stop allowing this government to treat you like dirt after all this support you have given to them over the years!!!i saw the condition of the road and it is in the worst condition it has ever been…it poses great risk on the lives of all those who utilize the road.’the money which is going to be spent on Dubique, is the fallen crumbs of what have remained from the packed burger!’ what happens to the rest of the constituency??? Its time ppl start removing the fog of doubt from their minds…You all are not performing!!!give jack his jacket and jane her lipstick…i am not asking for you to be voted out, however you should not mistreat and take advantage of the ppl who continue to support you ….alasss

DNO, I noticed that my comments of yesterday were not published. I shall modify my comments and merely ask questions.

It is rather curious that the honourable Dr. sees the need to inform us on a regular basis that all is well in his constituency. Usually, when politicians try to give this assurance, something is very definitely wrong.

Who reassured the constituents on 24 October 2012 that they have not been forgotten?. Are we to assume that as no one from his constituency would praise him, he pats himself on the back expressing great satisfaction with his efforts at developing the constituency and its people, while acknowledging that more can be done?

Who claimed that not enough attention was being given to his constituency by his own Labour Party administration?

Who was it DNO, who had to lick his self-inflicted wounds, like Ian- after the King put him is his lowly place when he attempted to instigate an internal revolt?

Who was so disillusioned and dissatisfied with the leadership of the PM and when he tried to speak out was stopped by the King?

Who was frustrated with what he considered to be a pattern of disrespect and deliberate undermining of his position within the government?

Who was upset about his secondary and supportive role to the Public Works minister, who led the delegation?

Who was upset that he got nothing in the 2012/2013 budgetary allocation for his constituency and complained of the diversion of allocated funds for the rehabilitation of the Morne Prosper village road?

Who absent himself out of pure frustration, from the parliament during the presentation and debate of the 2012/2013 budget and for the vote on the election of a president?

Who is now blowing his own trumpet which has been quiet by the King?

DNO-No one can hear him now. He has been sidelined as a failure just like the DLP government of which he belongs.

    Respectfully
    Roseau Valley

   :?: I am one to always say to those backward and dumb people of this constituency who does not know the reason why they should vote, that they should take what they get, that’s what they sow, that’s what they’ll reap! Can one imagine a minister saying a constituency is looking good by receiving $60,000.00 dollars?Doc,you must have used your salary for a year to give these people, tell us?A condtituency of 8 viilages and only that amount for all there is to do?What a shame on these people! The man and his government should be concentrating on relocating the people and plan on blasting the mountain people are risking their lives passing under,to build proper roads.I once saw this man walking in the village of Fond St.Jean on official business speaking to people with a cigarette in his mouth,as minister of the environment, how disrespectful this is,polluting the air we are to inhale and breathe. This man only had a mason who is not a professional and a member of the council going around looking for people who needs a few sheets of ply and roofing galvanised sheetings for their house. Is this not a shame and too gutterish. This should not be the responsibility of a parl Rep or minister going around doing this. There should be an institution like the housing department taking on such responsibility. Those who are in need would have to apply and an investigation carried out by the professionals in the ministry responsible for housing, welfare and social workers. This country is in a mediocre stage,it’s being run as if it’s a hand of banana one is asking and receiving from a neighbor.Wake up my people and open your eyes and brain!Stop fooling yourself, saying you are a Laborite, select and elect people who can do the job of bringing developmen to you, this includes jobs and not handouts!Sam Raphael is a perfect example of development.I’ve been saying it as it is that the only government which has brought proper development and has done the most for that constituency in a short period is the U.W.P.They built a high school, the Fabre road and the Petite Savanne to Delices road, yet the people were ungrateful. So take what you all got!   :?:

Who are you to dictate to him what he should do and not do and if he will be successful or not? Keep your views to yourself. Who asked you?
He wants to help his people. If in another profession, he would not have the authority and opportunity to do so. It appears that he is doing a good job of it. This is a politician who is caring and is fulfilling his elected duty. His constituents must be pleased with him. I commend him and wish him good luck.

What have the people you are referring to done for themselves? God help those who help themselves. Too often some people just sit back and say that the government did not help them. They have no advice and suggestions but they are complaining.
It commences with the youth while they are still young until they attain adulthood. The people of especially today must attend school, be attentive and diligent while in school and graduate in order to obtain a legal, well-paying job, whatever their chosen field. If many people are unemployed they are not contributors to society. If they are employed, obviously they will pay taxes according to their income. The government alone cannot do anything. This applies in any country of the world.
Dominica is not a non-democratic country where nationals must work and are financially supported by the government of that country. There is a difference in a democratic country and a non-democratic one. Those in democratic countries have the freedom to work and obtain a salary. They can whatever they will with the money.
They must seek employment; grow vegetables, herbs, beans, peas, flowers, etc. and sell them.
People must cease having children (those who do) with different men/women and be responsible nationals. They are responsible for themselves.
Ask yourself where is the government getting money from to help every Dominican who is especially in need of? How can the government assist if it has no money? The majority of money comes from abroad, the Caribbean Bank, the World Bank and other non-profit overseas organizations. Do you not know that?
I hope you have learned something and not expect the government (whichever may be in power) to assist everyone in the manner in which they would like. I am neutral; just being fair. The government can only do so much.

        December 19, 2012

I agree…Dominica people are famous for saying “Government don’t do nothing for me” What are you doing to better yourself? We can’t depend on people to give us hand me downs. Look at the Haitians…they’re growing the land and living of what they grow…Dominicans are too lazy…there are things to do in Dominica. I’ve seen my friends get their hustle on without breaking the law or depending on Government

I suspect that your comment is probably a sarcastic one. Obviously, the government which helped them is the one who will be voted for and/or re-elected. Do you blame them?
I do think that politicians try their utmost. They are not alone. They must first receive approval prior to implementing new projects which cost money. Do not also blame those politicians. Think well and weigh out the situation carefully.

Address this issue to the politician who represents you. In the meantime, they are satisfied in having a decent house. The road will be constructed later.
First things first; whichever comes first as is priority. Would you prefer the road first prior to the houses? They cannot sleep on the road. They need a roof over their heads.

Half of it could be patched with Tarish and cement in one day for the Council Innauguration, so the pm could walk on streets of Gold. The rest can be done in less than a week.
