DFP gathering solid team for next general election – Ashton Riviere

General Secretary of the Dominica Freedom Party (DFP), Ashton Riviere has announced that the party has been gathering a solid team which to date involves thirteen constituencies and the party will field 21 candidates at the next general election.

He said at a press conference held at the Garraway Hotel on Monday that the DFP will be a force to reckon with at the election.

“The Dominica Freedom Party is working, we are building a team and come the next general election we will be there as a force to be reckoned with,” he remarked.

Riviere said that the party has identified and are in serious discussions with people who the party has been working with in several constituencies across the island.

“We have folks we are working with in the Cottage constituency, the Grandbay constituency, Roseau Valley constituency, Kalinago Territory, Roseau South constituency, St Joseph constituency, La Plaine constituency and Salisbury constituency that we already identified persons with whom we have contact with…,” he stated.

According to Riviere, the DFP believe that the choice of candidate in every constituency will be up to the people of that constituency.

“So whereas we have identified persons we expect to work with, who we are talking to who are interested in working with us in those constituencies, the decisions will be opened to the people of the respective constituencies who will choose or will make the ultimate decision as to who their choice of candidate will be,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Party Leader Kent Vital, said the executive of the party has been working hard to bring a message of hope and to prepare the party to contest all 21 seats at the next general election.

“Our efforts have been driven by our love for our fellowmen rather than by hatred, malice, greed, envy, and self-interest,” he said. “Beyond the executive, we have been building a team of capable people, honest people, people of integrity, professional people and community-minded people. We are heartened that the people of Dominica have been responding to us.”

Some of the people that are working closely with the party are Hendricks Pierre from the Mahaut constituency, Cedrick Sookhoo of Roseau North and Jeff Bellot of the Soufriere constituency.

I like Freedom Party because they are the only party that has not been tainted with corruption allegations. Genuine Freedomites were never involved in corruption. We need qualified, competent people whose focus is nation building. Keep going Freedom Party. You have my support.

Here’s my 2 cents on a little bugging issue. Kent Vital sports a hair style typically identifying him as a Rastafarian, a follow of Ras Tafari (otherwise known as haille salasi)(excuse my faulty spelling). Honestly, do we think our society is opened enough to elect a locksman to Parliament, and possibly to the office of Prime Minister? Let’s discuss!

My God, woof…woof Man Bites Dogs is already in deeeep panic mod. Whooooaaa…Who is biting what dog. This man bites dogs, is now biting himself and his dirty corrupt Labour party. The rails are beginning to fall, scared of the UWP, a trusted and decent party with sound intelligence that his Labour corrupt government cannot match. Scared of the likes of The likes of Hon Linton, Dr. Hon Fontaine, Lugay, Spags etc. lol. Lol.” …But if we were in trouble at the next general election I would love Labour supporters to vote freedom party ..” That is from the biting Dogs, the man himself now feeling the fleas under his dirty political skin. Well, we know that Skerrit is on his way out,…that failed hopeless waste of time PM, and his trusted failed 18 ministers. I’m Happy
Man bites Dogs, you have never been able to capture a majority of people to back and support your political nonsense and thievery. I told you long ago, run away from these clowns and stop making silly story as you…

What’s the real difference between the DLP and the UWP. It’s more of the same. They seem to be working together. Come again DFP….

I disagree, they are not the same. The DLP is a corrupt failed government…..have as Beggars and have failed in government. The UWP, proudly has good decent honourable members at the highest level in parliament and within the executive and their ranks all over the island.

So there is a real difference between DLP and the UWP, no match at all.

Mr. Vital and his DFP have the constitutional right to contest the next general elections. I’m skeptical about the positive impact this political party could make given the short time to the next elections and all their candidates are not yet in place. Many people abandon their medical, law and business careers to enter politics. They do so, not to serve the people but see politics as an avenue to quick and easy riches. Look at the present lot in government. They enter politics impecunious and now they are filthy rich. No civil servant, from his salary, can accumulate such opulence unless they are involved in corrupt practices. Politics make strange bed fellows. Some would take the worst insults and abuse then still link up with the party that meted out the ill-treatment to them. Isaac was falsely accused by Skerrit of an attempted coup on his government. Dragged out of his house with powerful guns to his face. He has now joined his oppressors. It’s all about the money!

Well said IBO, and expect garbage rubbish response from the blind Kid on the Block and Man Bites Dogs. We need to elevate them to some level of decency in politics for the sake of Dominica and their own reputation.

One thought Democracy was a major concern and everyone had a democratic right in Dominica. Accordine to some comments that does not seem to be the case. What’s really wrong with those UWP supporters? Isn’t the DFP a party advocating for change in the country TO? So why are THEY(UWPities) SO ANGRY and have so much negative things to say about the DFP? Does that means that they are scared and anticipitating that this is the end for the UWP?
Two opposition parties and by far the aproach of the DFP IS FAR DIFFERENT to that of the UWP.
UWP is trouble and their motive is distruction. Tribal politics whereas on the other hand DFP IS THE OPPOSITE. UWP and it’s supporters just thinks if it’s not their way then it is no way. Is that DEMOCRACY?

KID, your criticisms are copious so you should be almost infallible. Work on your grammar.
*comments that does –comments that do
*advocating for change in the country TO? — advocating for change in the country TOO?
*does that means— does that mean
*is far different to —-is far different from
      *it’s supporters—- its supporters
      *distruction—-destruction
No offence intended. Just want you to improve. It’s your inalienable right to voice your opinions although sometimes I adamantly disagree with most of them.

IBO, I know you are educating and lecturing to a blind supporter who care not of good language but the language of Skerrit and his failed corrupt Labour government.
Please explain to him what is copious.

I think that he has been too copious in talking about Dominica…..he’s been over the top being in denial

Preparing to mess it ip for everybody once again? The failed experiment in 2000 wasn’t enough for the DFP? They feel they must enter the mix once again to keep us in more shite?

Haha. See the constituencies listed. Another arm of the UWP. As a leader, do you know that unemployment is not just base on the availability of job but also lazy people who don’t want to work to fill the open positions. There are so many lazy young men, sitting on the roadside and in bus stops, not wanting to work hard but selling drugs for fast, easy money. These are those u consider to be unemployed.

    • Cowboy
      July 3, 2018

Do you really believe Dominica has an abundance of available jobs simply not being filled? Frankly, that’s a completely delusional statement.

    Lets go freedom

  13. July 3, 2018

Freedom Party and Dame Eugena Charles are in the pass she did good back then and we thank her but we have to move forward . I wish all the candidates the very best. I also remember that DFP merged with the DLP to form the current Government and look at what we are going thru today, All I would suggest that the DFP candidates think wisely because this is not the time to be in bed with the DLP administration for a second time. Dominica need to move forward and we need to remove the DLP and Skerrit out so we can all come together to rebuild the Island.. So both Opposition parties should get on the ground knock on doors explain how they can make a difference and then sit down and work out some method that will be beneficial to everyone then merge together because Skerrit must be removed.
