DLP holds Annual Awards Ceremony

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, Political Leader of the Dominica Labour Party

Roseau, Dominica, October 8, 2011 — The Dominica Labour Party  (DLP) holds its Annual Awards Ceremony 2011 under the theme, “Dominica Labour Party: 56 Years of People’s Development” on October 8, 2011 from 4:00pm to 7:00 pm.

The event takes place at the Officers’ Quarters at historic Fort Shirley in the Cabrits National Park which overlooks Prince Rupert’s Bay and Dominica’s second town, Portsmouth, but is located within the Cottage Constituency.

The Dominica Labour Party has held the Cottage constituency since 1995. The people of that area have been represented in Parliament by Hon. Reginald Austrie, Minister for Lands, Housing, Settlement and Water Resource management.

The DLP Annual Awards Ceremony honours 32 of its members for their service to the Party. 21 members receive constituency awards. Five members receive zonal awards for service to the Labour Women’s Organization (LWO), DLP’s woman’s arm and six for service to the Labour Youth Organization (LYO), DLP’s youth arm. Awardees are presented by DLP’s Representatives and Senators.

DLP Political Leader, Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit, Prime Minister of Dominica will address the ceremony.

This year’s Awards Ceremony highlights the maturity of the Dominica Labour Party — 56 years old, having been launched on the steps of the Dominica Trades Union Hall in Roseau in 1955. It also honours the Party’s 56 years of developing the Dominican people through social and political transformations such as free public education, universal access to secondary education, dramatic increases in access to higher education, access to health care, the Labour Movement, political party formation, and constitutional change, including Associated Statehood and Independence.

The ceremony will also celebrate the party’s growing popularity, since the DLP won 18 of the 21 seats in the House of Assembly in the 2009 general elections.

So you know is for sure. Are you his boyfriend.

Some people are so evil minded that they would stop at nothing to discredit someone else.

IF he is, I say SO WHAT. It does not make him a bad person, nor does it stop him from doing his duties.

I dont know the man from Adam, but his private life is none of our business.

That is just a technical roll call….he want to see if he still got numbers….nothing more nothing less. Same old strategy every time his pants catching fire.

While you awarding people for supporting you blindly, you must also think of those that have worked much harder than you education wise and can’t eat bread in their own country because you and your friends decide against it.

You must also remember the children that got up this morning with no breakfast, and still have not gotten their text books for Academic year 2011/12.

While you taking your roll call, run up to the hospital and check with central medical store to see how many different medication that are missing, drop on at Imary and Glover ward and see the mess that is there.

Labour party represented the grass roots people of Dominica, the little man, today is pure wannabes in Roseau, that keep fanning your boomboom for perks.

Time will tell Roosevelt Skerrit….the world continues to turn…..

It is better for any Dminican to have a French Passport than to have a US Passport. We are closer to the French culturally, the majority of ildren in Dominica today hold french passports.Being Dominican is still french. My PM dont have to prove or tell you anything.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but surely these awards are bestowed on citizens who have contributed something to not just party (DLP), but also their community.

Take a drive and see the countless road projects going on.

Yes we need better medical facilities, better equip schools.

Regarding the control of food prices, do you expect the government to dictate to businesses what they should be charging (if they were to do that people like you would shout dictatorship).

Yes we need sports facilities, and I hope that we maintain them better than the savannahs (cut the grass, no hanging washing on the fences, no using them as pastures for cows and goats etc). Ooops, I forgot, we’re waiting for Skerrit to come with his grass cutter and cut the grass ( I make no apologies for my sarcasm, but all this negativity is so unnecessary and draining).
