Dominica Labour Party (DLP) is reporting major achievements as it relates to education over its 14 years in office.

The DLP has ensured that youth in Dominica receives an education, according to DLP candidate for the Roseau North constituency, Julius Timothy.

He was adressing a rally held at the Pottersville Savannah on Sunday.

“The Labour party is ensuring that you all get a proper education,” he said. “The Labour Party is ensuring that our youth get proper education. This why the State College is able to accommodate 1,500 people,” he said. “This is why the Labour Party, we are sending so many people to Universities in Cuba, Morocco, Venezuela, Turkey, China, Russia, in universities all over America.”

In fact, Timothy noted, the DLP has ensured that universal access is now available in preschools and secondary schools in Dominica.

“Right now we have universal access in Dominica to preschool, we have universal education in all secondary schools,” he said. “That is what the Labour Party is doing and labourites, while the Labour party is doing all that, the UWP is bringing a man to represent Dominica without one GCE or one CXC.”

Timothy stated that Dominica will be the “laughing stock” of the Caribbean if Linton is named prime minister after the December 8 general election.

“The truth is Dominica would be the laughing stock of the entire Caribbean, not because the man speaks well on the radio,” he stated.

He said many Caribbean countries are looking up to Dominica.

“They all look up to Dominica,” Timothy stated. “We have the head of PAHO in Washington, is a Dominican. The head of the CARICOM secretariat in Guyana is a Dominican. Right now Dominica is even putting up a candidate for the Commonwealth Secretariat. The other Caribbean islands are saying, how are you all doing it in Dominica? That is what they are asking. The man who is doing it for us is prime minister Roosevelt Skerrit.”

Timothy said Dominica is “on to a good thing” under the DLP,

“Labourites, we are on to a good thing. We have a good thing in Dominica. We cannot let ourselves down. We must ensure a bright future for our children and for our children’s children,” he said.

Isn’t Timothy minister of health? so why isn’t he talking about our great health services. Why is he not telling us about PMH running out of sutures so surgery had to be curtailed for a while or why they don’t have basic items like paracetamol in the pharmacy? Or why when any of the ministers fall sick they fly them out for treatment. Clearly, PMH is not up to scratch. LET HIM TALK ABOUT THESE ITEMS instead of his BS about education. these kids graduate from State College and I have to help them to write a business letter LMAO

It seems like the DLP has managed to create a zombie education system where the dunce from all areas of the society band together to support them. They seem to lose sanity, lose their free will to think. The education of dependency and begging. Yes DLP you have done us a great disservice

How is this advancement in education, when children are reaching college and unable to read and write properly? This Universal Education is badly managed, not everyone is academic inclined and with the removal of JSP program it has created a void for those students who are more technically inclined. We too blindly just sit and say Labour Ka Travay. 100% percent has access to State College but do they tell you how many just go to college with 0 GPA and just do nothing.

Dominica has the educated illiterate. A set of kids churned out by a Labour party eager to say it educated people but instead turning out more unemployed and more prospects for making BOM.

They cannot write a simple resume or CV, and most of them are unemployable because they have learnt nothing of value to most employers.

And they all support Labour party for putting right where they are. Brokes and without a job.

    Funny country this Dominica.

by closing down the jsp program labour did away with all technical schools which were geared towards granting students a second chance… today where are young people learning be to skilled workers and being integrated into the society as functioning adults? instead we have a generation of unskilled youth..

SERIOUS DANGER AHEAD!!! Fellow Dominicans, we have heard the arguments, we have listened to the real issues. We have seen the motor cades, rallies, foreign artists for free and DNO has provided us with the profiles of both UWP and DLP candidates almost throughout the country. It’s now down to 8 more days to save our country or allow it to become another Iraq or Venezuella. Let’s put aside all of our politics and go through what we heard, what we saw how we feel. Furthermore, examine each of our 44 candidates constituency by constituency, and tell me if any of the DLP candidates have anything to give us hope for a better future. Based on the profiles/ biographies we saw, they have convinced me that if elected DA will be worse off in the next 5 yrs than we are today. Is that what we want for our country? Its all about Skerrit and his social programs they running on. What if Skerrit departs, God forbid like Rosie and Pierro? Who do we turn to folks? Ambrose? Timothy? Blackmoore? Sure not Austrie! You see the trouble that lies ahead if we vote the DLP back? On the flip side, UWP candidates really have me inspired by their vision for a better tomorrow for all of us. A vision that tells me that even if Lennox Linton were to depart God forbid, the vision would still continue because of the talent seen in the 21 strong team. I see true leadership in Sandford, Dr. Fontaine, Baptist, Joseph Isaac, Joshua Francis, Eunica Victor, Mr. George, Mr. Burton and others who can really step up. Can we truthfully and honestly say the same about DLP candidates. Dominicans, let’s take warning and behave ourselves you hear.

Ask yourself this, they are spending huge amounts of money (if it is true) for education but what good is a top education when you can not provide any jobs?? End result: all the highly educated ones are going abroad and do not return. From an economical viewpoint, at present all this big spending on education does not benefit the country in any shape or form. However, it benefits the individuals who no doubt are all carefully chosen children of faithful Labour supporters. Big spending – no returns!
Skerrit , we see through you, you can not fool us anymore. It’s time for you to go.

Every one has a mind of their own.. Why don’t you advice the educated returned men and women to apply to the private sector for jobs… The government should privatise every Institution / organisation and maybe then you all will sing a different tune.. Lazy bunch of educated men and women sitting on their behinds and hoping that the government will hand them a job on A platter. You don’t want hand outs you all keep saying don’t look for pull string find your own jobs..

The coronation is that we have been making great strides within the region as in pertain to well coveted positions in the region and afar and counting on our leaders to facilitate these achievements. These achievements can’t be reversed and in the interests of continuity we ought to embrace that bold and courageous vision of at least 1 university educated person per household. This is an effort that is well on the way of being achieved. We are living in an age of globalization and if we are going to represent our country at home or abroad we need to be dignified and be a true diplomat. We have done it in many disciplines and there is no doubt on our current trajectory we will continue to do so.
As Daddy chest rightly put it; Forward we go! The spotlight is on us”.

Tim Tim Dominicans are not aware of any past government that has suppress its citizens when it comes to educating its citizen. What DLP did is a responsibility of any government. Universal education is a UWP child and you all have blundered on it. You all have killed skills training. The Eastern Comprehensive School, you all have not even completed the school much less to equip the school with the proper tools to facilitate the various departments or skills trade. After 15years the youths are idle, no skills, not even farming was enhance.
Tim Tim as you say you comfortable so get the hell out. Go to Guadeloupe or Martinique and get your good health care attention, while we here we will fight to get ours and we want a team that can get work with us and for us.
You all are scared of Lennox because you all see the power in the man. You should be happy he has no GCE can you imagine if he had? The man is naturally intelligent and that compliment his Media training. Don’t be scared, the international world understand him much better than Skerrit.

Mr. Ttimothy I was a teacher in 1989/1990 at a primary school. A while before we had universal secondary education and I was proud to be a teacher because the children we prepared for secondary school were adequately prepared. Teachers at the secondary schools were able to continue a smooth transition preparing students to return grades of 1’s and 2’s at CXC examinations and A’s, B’s and C’s at the 6th form college.
In 2006/2007 I returned to teaching and this time at the North East Comprehensive Secondary school, and a few years after the introduction of universal secondary education and I was ashamed and bitterly frustrated to encounter students in first form who were unable to write their names far less read. I know some responders to this post will say its untrue but there were boys who were only capable of writing their initials. So, my question to you Mr. Thimothy is do you call this progress in education?
Another case in point is the fact that when I went to school in the absence of the internet and computer access and poorly stocked libraries we could not get into the CDCC with grade 3’s, now students are afforded all of these advantageous cutting edge research capabilities they are accepted into the state college with grades 3’s and 4’s. Mr. Thimothy is this progress in education?
Another important point is in this question, what form of accreditation does the state college have and from which accrediting agency? I ask against the backdrop that after spending time and money attending the Dominica state college young people trying to get into college in the US and elsewhere are stunned to realize that their CXC grades carries more weight than any certification or qualifications credentials that were obtained from the Dominica state college. So, Mr. Thimothy these are the facts you need to make available alongside your claims of progress in education so that rational readers and listeners can make an un-biased evalution for themselves.
Please do not understand my comment to mean that I am against universal secondary education. My point is that the system was rushed and not properly vetted and needs a constructive assessment and overhauling, then a well planned, tested and systematic reimplementation.

Education? Is that what you have done for the Roseau North constituency for the last 4. 5 years? Really Mr. Timothy….really?!! And where are the jobs for those you are boasting education for. Ah? Mr. Timothy, you didn’t even know what to say last night on the podium. When last have you driven in the lanes of Pottersville and Goodwill? All the roads are in a deplorable state. Huge craters in every lane. Best you accept defeat all now, because Danny Lugay all the way for the Roseau North constituency this time around. Change is a must!

  29. December 1, 2014

Increased educational opportunities that does not equal to gainful employment for a vast majority of DSC graduates is quite backwards and insulting. The best approach would be to build an economic environment that would make achieving an education worthwhile right here in Dominica. Why boast about how our most educated are being shipped out for employment? Mr. Timothy that is an embarrassment. Dominica should be the best place to learn, WORK and enjoy life!!! Get it right, PLEASE!!!

Many of our young people have attained a very high level of education and have gone on to achieve huge academic qualification in Universities overseas. Indeed many of them were featured on DNO. Thanks to DNO we ‘re able to share this information and share in the pride of our young. This is one of the reasons why I admire Peter St Jean so much. I have followed his progress as I believe that education is the KEY!! Peter has delivered on his promises and I am very pleased that my Neices, cousins and other Dominicans can now reap the benefits of his implementation of fabulous Education Policies. It’s fine to have policies – it’s another to implement them. Hayie chien di dayne blanc!!

When i was studying my lecturers always reminded us that ‘No One Put a Job out there for you” your ability to get a job will depend on a variety of factors, starting with your ATTITUDE!!!!!

That’s why the National Employment Program is a very Important INTERNSHIP Program which is design to help shape our young professionals in the work force, valuable experience they can carry elsewhere.

I commend the Labour Party Government for this great initiative!!!!

Unfortunately UWP has decided to SCRAP it if they win so sad   :( they will replace it with PEP (Permanent Employment Prospects – according to Eddison James) but they are yet to explain how such a program will work —– Guess the Government will Permanently pay the Interns LMAO, why not, Better Days are Coming LOL!!!! 5,000 jobs in 3 years to include Grass cutting for College Graduates!!!!!!
