Domestic violence, gender equality high on Catherine Daniel’s agenda

Newly appointed Minister for Social Services, Gender Affairs and Family, Catherine Daniel says domestic violence and gender equality are the two key areas that are high on her agenda.

She also plans to restructure the “Yes We Care Program.”

“Domestic violence, this is one of the key things, we have a lot of abuse in the homes,” Daniel told reporters after the official swearing-in of cabinet ministers on the weekend.

Another area she wants to focus on is gender equality.

“We have been saying that but it is coming slowly, we really need to push more for gender equality,” Daniel remarked, stating that “we have to see the potential in every human being whether man or woman…”

The newly sworn-in minister noted that she intends to work to ensure that the social programs such as the “Yes We Care Program” become more structured.

“It has to be a more structured thing,” she stated. “It goes where it’s needed and I think I want to bring that kind of structure in to make sure that it is done properly.”

She stated that in terms of such programs, she has no intentions of reinventing the wheel but maybe they can be done better.

“And I think there must be more transparency in what we do,” she stated.

An educator by profession, Daniel was the CXC Registrar in Dominica for many years. She said it is refreshing to work in another field.

“I think being in education all my life from childhood to now, I think the change is a welcome change for me,” she stated. “And again one mustn’t think that if you are not in education you can’t help. Because you are in cabinet, you can contribute, it’s a family so we can work together.”

DNO marriage protection is important to a healthy society. All you too darn hypocrite in our country. So because I Lang Mama would like to see more respect for family and marriages and I post my comment on an article involving the minister for social services and family DNO refuse to generate my comment. Wha happen DNO since when marriage is not integral to family development.

In fact Lang Mama as a citizen would like to see legislation that would punish people for breaking up marriages because breaking up marriages is counter productive to the ministry of social services and family. DNO how can the minister not consider my plea.

    You must have done

    where you belong

I hope that the RED CLINIC will be better administered through that department. This program should fall under social services not on a Wednesday in the Financial Center where Skerrit dishes out money with no inclination of the person needs, income and status. If that is not done, then this ministry will again be a joke and a failure

Bravo miss Daniel. Once again congratulations and may god guide you and protect you from the hands and tongues of evil men and women. As I stated in a previous post I would like to see your ministry move speedily to bring laws to the table that will seek to punish anyone who abuses children, the elderly and women in anyway. The law must have clauses dealing with child endangerment and stiff punish punishment to go with it. Not just on paper but enforcement must be seen to be effective to serve as a deterrent. Be strong , and embrace your job with humility but you must also be very firm to get things done in a timely manner. No foot dragging allowed. God bless you and the entire cabinet and god bless the Commonwealth of Dominica.

Bojaay. It doesn’t even have a month and Ms Daniel already looks like she is carrying the world on her shoulders. Why dont these ppl just relax and enjoy their older years. Politics just going to run you down. Worst you now have to carry all Skerrit’s little secrets and surrender to his word…oh boy…I feel so sorry!

Go,for,it Ms. D! Even if I did not support your party, as a former coworker I believe you are a serious worker. You have done your job as registrar with the highest level of integrity….never once attempted to compromise your office. I am just afraid for you when you begin hearing those horror stories of abuse you don’t break down and cry, I know the tears don’t stay far…..lol.

But 100% support for you….much love and keep smiling and loving…..

    PS

When Skerrit piss you off you will be welcome to join the blue camp, cause I know you believe in honesty and integrity….I know that.

Belle befff with your family talk. Its more like the novel entitled: animal farm…
Madam your ministry is kicksy n funny, its a lot of words but saying nothing. Minister of family, aint gender affairs
Got to do with family to a certain extent.
Goooood lord help.this bingo.draw cabinet..They dont know what on eartg they about, thats another word for madness or insanity

      @Zamm
Stop being negative. If you want to consider the family “Animal Farm”, well on this farm, these are domesticated animals so they don’t bite and they are well-behaved. The animal farm which you refer to fits the opposition since they are the ones protesting, accusing, criticizing, inciting violence and downgrading the country with their animalistic behavior. Your analysis is off target.

        December 17, 2014

You must be lacking common sense, what zamm is saying is 100% true. Protests are a symbol of democratic rights, especially after wrongdoing has occurred. Animal Farm bears the theme of dependence and blind worship and support for unlawful leaders, something labourites know a bit too well

  16. December 16, 2014

Really lol. Does that mean she will at least ask the PM to apologise to Monel .That would be a good starting point .
