Stephenson said he is capable of serving his constituency

Dominica Labour Party (DLP) candidate for the Riviere Cyrique constituency, Ivor Stephenson has presented himself as a well educated man who has received a college and university education.

Stephenson, who will go up against United Workers Party (UWP) Dr. Thompson Fontaine, told supporters at a DLP rally held in Riviere Cyrique on Wednesday night, that he has the capacity to serve the people of that constituency.

“The man that is presenting himself as parliamentary representative cannot come with any track record to be counted of that of Ivor Stephenson,” he said.

He stated that both he and his opponent share similar backgrounds. “Ivor Stephenson coming from a humble beginning, a man who grow up right here in this community, attended the Morne Jaune Primary School, Thompson attended the Grand Fond Primary School, Ivor Stephenson attended the Dominica Grammar School, Thompson Fontaine the Saint Mary’s Academy,” he stated.

He continued, “Ivor Stephenson went to colleges and universities, Thompson Fontaine went to colleges and universities. Thompson Fontaine is an economist, Ivor Stephenson is an environmentalist. So he have education, I have education. So when they say about Doctor, tell them I say that I have my education and I have the capacity to serve you the people of this constituency.”

Stephenson appealed to supporters as well as non-supporters to cast their votes for him in the December poll.

“I appeal to you my dear supporters, non supporters, undecided voters and all the United Workers Party (UWP) supporters who are now listening that come December 8, you must vote Ivor Stephenson because I have made my contribution to the development of this community,” he stated.

This comment is directed to all the diasporas from Laplaine and other constituencies. I wonder if you think about the consequences and impact of your actions. I am not sure how often you travel to Dominica. But all I do know is this, I am there very often because of love of my Island. Maybe you need to conduct a little bit of research to discover how much it cost your very locals on the Island to clear a box or barrel at the customs. Another issue is this. It is unbelievable how some custom officers find it interesting to team up with their fellow officers to disseminate their jealousy and greed towards poor family members whose family are overseas and are trying to help out their families in Dominica. Custom officers will tell their counterparts to look out for certain individuals and charge them hard on items they are receiving. These are very poor people, Mark you! This is wrong and should not be allowed to take place. It happened to me.

Listener up DLP supporters. All I will say to you all is this, think very hard after this victory of your party. The bribery money will soon be finished if it hasn’t yet. Think hard about this phrase. “Every ass loves to listen to himself bray.” Please think about that. The hard times are just a stone throw away. God bless!

I will not make any unkind remarks about Mr. Stephenson but only to say in all fairness that his tenure as Parl. Rep . leaves much to be desired.. In politics, even though you are supporting a party you must keep in mind first and foremost you are representing your constituency. there always comes a time when you will have to face them again for their votes. your constituency comes before party.

Mr. Stephenson please ignore the negative comments and focus on the positive, at the end of the day win lose or draw I know you will continue to play your guitar for the church. but do not mix your good name with that of Skeritt. That is what going to cost you the seat on 12/8/14. these men that you associate yourself with will bring you down.

It seems to be a labourite you must be a liar.

Ivor started university in 19994 at UWI open campus and failed the first semester three times, up to today he haven’t graduated.

This was a rather weak appeal for reelection. Mr Stephenson had five years, and his work should speak for itself then people would make their decision.

Inese are you aware that when your dad stood up in various cabinet meetings of the DLP to state a case for his constituency he was told to sit down like a little boy, now at the eve of election skerrit doing as if he so love your dad open your eye my dear. Your dad did say a lot of bad things about fountain not of his own will but from notes provided to him by operatives of the labour party he even stumble on some of those words. however I don’t think anyone has any problems with Ivor personally but is with the skerrit regime that is corrupt and they must go.

How can This whole labour party reps be lying all the time. The labour party track record is loud n clear: bad roads, dirty communities, dirty n nasty landscape, alcoholism, crack cocaine n weed abuse, importation of bananas, no agriculture, no money except during campaign, most expensive shopping items, noooo work, no jobs, hardly a tourist in hotels, lots of empty promises, lots of bluffs, n disrespect for the people, the hospitals are in a mess so de health sector…
Then the labour party got the testicular fortitude to ask for five more years, absolutely not. Take what Ivor n them give you all n them pay them back by voting them put. Let them feeel the poor man”s pain.
Gas price gone down, but not in Dominica, with its petro cariabe old talkk. Best labour reps go n open gas stations like de man from possie n oh ivor toooooo.
Ivor how the gas station going, what”s the price of gas at your station…?

    • Inese
      December 5, 2014

Furthermore, there is absolutely no reason these nasty and negative comments should be made. Has he personally attacked any of you or even Thompson? The most he has done is state Thompson’s points and rebutted them. This is the problem with Dominica. The people who continue to wear their ignorance as a badge of honor. I don’t care whether this comment is disliked. Dominica will never move forward unless our people change! Change is inevitable, but what sort of change are we seeking? Positive or negative change? Yes there are both! Change starts with YOU! Change starts with the right mindset!

      • Bee
        December 5, 2014

He belongs to a team of people who personally attacks everyone who opposes them. As part of the team he is saying that he is in agreement with what is going on, or he should step down. however that does not mean he should be personally attacked since i think that type of politics should cease to exist.

That said since your dear daddy did not tell us what he did for the community you should enlighten us.

        Inese
Instead of coming here and tell us how you dad feels, you should have helped him by mentioning the positive influence that he accomplished as the pal rep during the past 5 years. We are just trying to say that the constituency did extremely poor under his stewardship. As a result of this, he should not even think of running again. Therefore he should have just simply step aside and endorse Mr. Fontaine. If mr. Fontaine fails, he will surely get the same treatment; he will be kicked out.

        December 6, 2014

  Relax my dear, don’t burst your blood vessel.

Daddy is a nice guy but he has no ba**s when it comes to asking Skerro for things his constituency needs. The people of the constituency nor Thompson for that matter does not hate him. After all he is a Dominican just like us. All the constituents are saying is that they can’t afford to pay him a salary with all the bells and whistles when he sits idly by scratching his head like Mr. WHAT SHALL I DO. He is NOT fit to be parliamentary representative and therefore WILL be discarded come Monday December 8th. Stay focused on your studies and may god bless you 8) . But I am obligated to remind you that Change Is A Must and that means its time for Team Dominica/ UWP to take the reigns and make the Grand Fond Constituency and Dominica by extension the best place to live, the best place to work and the best place to enjoy life. Next election daddy will be campaigning for UWP, mark my words 8)

        Assertive, NOT Aggressive!

Quite clearly the UWP supporters have nothing better to do with their lives. They are the ones who are lazy sitting on their bums making negative comments. Have respect for the man! Peacock seems to have the brain of a peacock. The fact that he can raise chickens, play the guitar etc., shows that he has many skills and is well rounded. I claim victory for him in the name of God! Amen. Only those in the fire feel the heat.

it is very true that Ivor is soft spoken, but grand fond area has seen quite a bit under his representation. But Dr Fontaine is by far a much more educated man than Ivor is. But that does not make him a better candidate. But persons have complained that Fontaine is not dog work on the ground. I have personally had experiences where Fontaine would pass me bf and not even say hi…. Now what kind of foolishness is that ???? How do u present urself as a candidate and you do t talk to the people. Yes u talk to Ur supporters, but what about the dlp and decided voters???? You are not only representing your supporters when u wi , u represent everyone !!! Fountaine iS only looking to fill his pocket!!! But I must admit that the UWP have made great strides in bringing the party to form. I believe their chances are better in 2019 as long as the dlp to completely messed up. Dlp will lose a seat or two but UWP won’t win. It doesn’t matter much to me cause I don’t depend on the red clinic . I work hard every day to support my family. Others need to d the same and stop depending on handouts.

This is a poor article seeking reelection. There should be a list of what was done in the three communities to support your bid for the Dec 8th election. Fontaine is new to the political platform, it would be nice to show—- “what you’ve done” > “what are you going to do?”

For example- The road to Grandfond which needs immediate attention. I would not run for political office with a road in such condition after being in power for 5 years.

all the people who are writing comments and hiding your names; its election time — be bold

I’m not a supporter of either the UWP nor DLP. (Very independent in my thoughts)

Good luck to both Ivor and Thomas on Dec 8th. The people will decide……………….

FYI- whoever win this seat should encourage less alcohol consumption amongst the youths
