As part of efforts to have his opinion publicized and to continue the “quest to restore and grow the integrity” of Dominica, United Workers Party (UWP) candidate for Roseau South, Joshua Francis has launched a website.
Francis said it is part of speaking out on the rights and wrongs in Dominica in a manner that is “sensible, uplifting, edifying and unifying.”
“The website exemplifies the new way of thinking generated by Team Dominica, UWP,” he said. “Team Dominica UWP is engaged in the action for change and is leading the online communication which has increased grassroots activism, supporter outreach, and fundraising in Roseau South and beyond.”
The website is multi-faceted.
“The website tells my story and promotes my mission and vision statements, highlights constituency issues, provides an opportunity to donate, contact information, voting information and an interactive page …” he explained.
Furthermore it provides latest election news and issues which Francis said is relevant for day to day living.
This information, Francis noted, will be of tremendous benefit for the people of Roseau South and Dominica on a whole.
“Our young people and internet savvy persons, in particular, will be excited by this initiative which actively engages them to participate in the action for change,” the UWP hopeful remarked.
He said his party’s aim is to change and build Roseau South, calling it “a Herculean task.”
“But we are strong and spirited and together we will build our Roseau South Constituency brick by brick and block by block: this website contributes to that journey,” Francis said.
Congratulations to Joshua. As your fellow classmate in law school, you always demonstrated the ability to be a great leader. Go, Brother step by step and faith along the way, not forgetting “Grannie” she is watching from afar and would protect you and you will have favour with men. Run, brother, you will win, win, win. I returned to Dominica and worked in the private sector for my own Engineering Consulting firm for five years before going back to the US; thenceforth, I visit as often as I can. But even then, I have never met our Prime Minister.

Mr. Francis is a breath of fresh air in Dominican politics where the air is stale and very bad. He represents progressiveness. If he does not win the Roseau South constituency this time around due to Skerrit’s machinery, he will definitely be victorious next time around due to his humble, professional and polished brand. Roseau South is the largest and most complex constituency with 19 polling stations ranging from the poorest to very affluent areas. If the man takes it upon himself to set up a website to boost his constituency chances, then good on him. There’s no reason why he wouldn’t have gotten the all clear from his party.
In my view, his site is superior to his party’s in terms of interface, design, and content-wise and it looks like he personally has put a lot into it. I would be surprised he didn’t update it regularly from now on.
It would be interesting to see if this becomes a trend and the web designer(s) stays on to assist the party/the other candidates more generally. At the end of the day, each candidate runs in their own constituency so individual efforts/investments can’t be looked down upon. Besides, this reflects on the entire party as ambitious, if not innovative.

Just remember, elections are won on the ground, so while I believe this and similar site will educate a few people, the majority of decision makers will not even get a chance to visit the site.
