money launderingPolitical Leader of the United Workers Party, Lennox Linton, said the party spent a little over $1-million to finance its campaign during the general election held in December 2014.

He made the statement at a UWP delegates’ conference held in Salisbury on Saturday.

“Your United Workers Party spent $1,212,612 on election campaign,” he told delegates.

Linton noted that the party raised $1,046,673 for the campaign and is now in deficit of $165,939.

“We still owe people,” he said.

He stated that the UWP is satisfied that it was “out spent” during the election campaign.

The other major party in the election, the Dominica Labour Party (DLP), has not revealed its expenditure for the campaign.

There are rumors that the DLP spent $32-million but this has not been confirmed by the party.
