Leader of the opposition United Workers Party ( UWP ) Lennox Linton has flatly refuted and denied claims by prime minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, that his party intends to privatize the island’s main hospital, the Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH), should the party win the up coming general election.
In winding up the 2014/2015 budget debate, prime minister and minister of finance, Roosevelt Skerrit, told Parliament that the UWP “intends to privatize the PMH should they win the elections. ”
But addressing the matter at a press conference over the weekend Linton said that this is not the intention and position of the UWP.
“I want to make it abundantly clear, that this is not the intention or position of the United Workers Party…we have absolutely no intention of privatizing health care in Dominica, ” he said. “We see health care as a very important national responsibility that government have a responsibility to continue to pay proper attention to.”
Linton stated that health care financing and delivery are critical to the UWP’s vision “to create the best place to live, work and enjoy life.”
The UWP leader explained that that in health care, his party will be guided by the “assessments that have been done” and the UWP’s own “situation analysis of the sector and will build strategy for improvement of health care and the development of health care services in Dominica based on truth and facts and not on a platform of lies.”
According to Linton, his party will build a strategy for health care development and will pay attention to recommendations made by “independent consultants” and will listen to the voices of Dominica’s own health care professionals.
“Rather than cast them aside because we believe that they are criticizing the government, we will listen carefully to their recommendations for improvements. Clearly, they have worked in the system; they are qualified and competent to have a look at what is going on and to say how it can be improved, ” he remarked.
He said that his party is in agreement with proposals of former medical director of the PMH, Dr. Irving Pascal, for “an innovative health care model form at the PMH” to enable it to house a number of things.
So,… if not health care, Will you privatize Dowasco like your party did Domlec, an act that all but crippled Dominica? Only to win and do just 5 years, then voters again show you their displeasure by putting dlp back in for another 15 years after that? ? Eh, will you?
Skerrit says the UWP plan for the PMH is: (1) privatize it; (2) put it in the hands of two UWP supporters; (3) increase the cost of medical services there; and (4) discontinue certain medical benefits that are currently provided free to qualified patients. In truth, the UWP never said any of these things. Skerrit simply used a well-worn political gimmick; he deliberately misrepresented what the UWP said and argued against what he knows they never said.’ The trick works like this: (UWP)”The cat looks sick, we think it will die”; (Skerrit) “My dear friends, I hear those rascals are plotting to kill our beloved cat! We won’t stand for that!” Skerrit plays this trick over and over again and no matter how often he does it, the same people always fall for it.
I have seen a person flipflop ideas like how Lennox is doing..One day is one thing next day he swallowing his vomit and recanting…

Look at Linton track record from investigating reporter, committee for good governance, peoples parliament , supported of DAAS bobol leader of stone brigade (May 79), Insulter of women, advocate of boycott and misbehavior. He speaks about constitutional procedure but forgets that the law holds the Legislature for presenting the budget. He is not in the Legislature but holds a budget session. He has a peoples parliament but forgets that a Parliament is elected. He imitates North Korea leader in calling government officials prostitutes and criminals.
This master of double talk and flip flop promise to replace China with Taiwan now he denies it. He says anything and denies everything. He even denied that he was from Marigot. Mark Twain would say that he is a liar, a dam liar and a selfish.
I am a Trauma Surgeon and also General/minimally invasive surgeon willing to volunteer my services and expertise to my country….the current government has been an obstacle to folks like me willing to give back ( makes no sense )…I hope that UWP can tap into the great Dominica physicians out there willing to give back….there is so much work that needs to be done to improve the healthcare system.

There is no way UWP will privatize health care in Dominica. UWP is a people driven party and they sure will not do anything that will hurt people. If anything, I more believe is the party that has all but privatize public works that will privatize health care.

In my opinion the princess margaret Hospital is already private. if you don’t have the money to pay instantly for medication, scans, X-rays, blood test and many more health care assistant you won’t receive any care until you do. i have come to this situation personally where if my cousin had no one to pay for some medication she needed to take urgently she wasn’t going to get it.

New UWP leader outlines development plans.
The newly elected leader of the Opposition United Workers Party, Lennox Linton has revealed his development plans for Dominica.
“Through these incentives and legislations, he noted, UWP “will facilitate the emergence of a strong private sector that drives new investments and job growth, earns foreign exchange and increases disposable income”.”
You see???
And?…what does your small mind interprete that to mean? A strong private sector is what sustains a country. Why do you think DA’s growth has NEVER reached 1%?
