Linton wants Christian Council intervention in political campaign

Linton said the DLP has violated the Election Code of Conduct
Linton said the DLP has violated the Election Code of Conduct

Leader of the United Workers Party (UWP) Lennox Linton is calling on the Dominica Christian Council to intervene in the ongoing election campaign, saying that he is being mis-quoted by leader of the Dominica Labour Party (DLP), prime minister, Roosevelt Skerrit.

“I am asking the Christian Council to intervene and to ask Mr [Roosevelt] Skerrit to stop saying what I have not said,” Linton stated in a release on Thursday. “When I quote Mr Skerrit, I quote him correctly.”

Recently the UWP and the DLP signed an Election Code of Conduct with the Christian Council and the Dominica Association of Evangelical Churches.

Proponents of the code said it is meant to provide moral and spiritual guidance to both parties on a free and fair election and one that’s free from fear.

The political parties pledged to among other things, avoid character assassination, half truths and misrepresentations.

But according to Linton, Skerrit has been mis-quoting him

“Mr Skerrit has to stop saying what I have not said…when is that going to end? Mr Skerrit can just get up in the morning and say, Lennox is going to stop this and stop that,” he noted.

He said the DLP has violated the code since it was signed through a “steady campaign” of bashing the UWP candidates.

“Since the signing of the code all they, the Labour Party, have done is to bash United Workers Party candidates in violation of the Code of Conduct,” he noted. “And we are waiting to hear what the Christian Council has to say about that. what we are hearing is not encouraging. The Christian Council knows who is driving mepuis, hate and prejudice in Dominica. They know the platform from which they are hearing all of the foolishness, all of the nonsense, all the demonization and denigration.”

He stated that the Council continues to refer to the violations as though they were coming from politicians from both sides of the political divide.

“But we are not involved in that,” Linton stated.

“Christian Council and the Dominica Association of Evangelical Churches.”(Linton).

If I were you I would refrain from suggesting that any religion intervenes into this matter. When I read; ” Christian Council and the Dominica Association of Evangelical Churches intervene.” The first thing that comes to my mind is ” the theory” of conflict between Church and State.

If you are going to invite any of the above into politics, then we cannot complain when Skerrit invites his boy bishop to stand by his right hand on the camping trail.

The main purpose of a true religion, one which preach, and teach the word of God, should not be invited into anything which concerns politics; the duty of the above is to concern themselves with what “thus saith the Lord.

If you are inviting a so called Christian Council, and Evangelical Churches to perhaps chastised Skerrit, and suggest he play it by the rules because of some agreement which bares the signatures of candidates from both the UWP, and the DFP your efforts may have been wasted. By now every intelligent; and persons with commonsense knows that Skerrit is a pathological lair; and expect him to look at a quarter (Dominica twenty-five cents) and look one straight in their eye and say the twenty-five cents it is a dollar.

You should have seen that coming: remember Skerrit recently sued you for a million dollars because you spoke the truth without mentioning his name or any one’s name; why should you anticipate someone who wish to harm, and destroy you physically, and politically would honor a few words written on a bit of paper to which he affix his signature?

The man has no concept as to what it means to honor: He does not know the meaning of the word honorable! You will honor your words, nevertheless you should have realized by now a pathological liar usually forgets what they say, when some endorsed something written even by someone else, it is like they have verbally spoken the words. Liars have plenty of difficulties reemerging, so he may have already forgotten he signed that contract!

foolishness… their position says it all!!! they have God given authority to make peace and do many more things.. if you read your bible you would know the power that God gives to mere mortals who stands by their faith!!! they were bold!!! and stand up against kings who did not live according to the word of God!! clearly those in this current time are cowards. they have put aside the things of God and take up the works of men!!!! BUT THEN… THE BIBLE SPEAKS OF IT SO I GUESS ITS JUST PROPHESY BEING FULFILLED!!!! DON’T ACT SURPRISED!!! BE WARNED THAT GOD IS ON HIS WAY (the second coming of our savior) who in time will save us from these false believers…. who for them its all about money.

FOR NOT EVERYONE WHO SAYS LORD LORD WILL BE SAVED .. EVEN THOSE WHO HAVE CAST OUT DEMONS IN HIS NAME.

Some Dominicans really like leaving in the past.In order to go forward you must leave the past behind. The Pastors need to back up what they drew up.Anything short is useless. The Church has a moral and spiritual duty to call on those who would seek to put division in our communities based on false information.Stand and call sin by its name.Dont allow the devil to have free reign.Be it UWP or DLP.Personal attacks are unacceptable, especially from leaders.

For all those who opposes Linton on that statement, is best no CODE of CONDUCT was signed and agrreed upon, and that Linton and his Team should curse down Skerrit and his DLP , and Skerrit should do the same to UWP.
Then election campaign would be on gear. So de Laborites like it.

So because the leader of the UWP Team Dominica Mr. L. Linton is crying out for peace, love and fairness…you call him a baby. Some of you Dominicans are amazing! You guys are bullies,,,,,,and are cowards and don’t stand for justice and fairness.
Dominicans be leaders and not followers of a corrupt government. Open your eyes and see the truth. What is so wrong about someone asking or calling on the Dominica Christian Council to intervene. So what is you are saying you guys LOVE corruption, unfairness and all the wrong doings that is taking place in the country.
I can just imaging you all kids….when you see the children you don’t want to see the parents.

Linton want peace , love and fairness?. Too little, too late. Do you think that people have forgotten the years of hatred coming from his talk show? This is the man who used all the words in the dictionary to attack the PM, the Speaker of the House, the judge, the jury, the professional, the lay man. Everybody he didn’t agree with was cast as foolish, corrupt, stupid. Total and complete negativity day after day after day. Now you talking about peace and love? Personally, Linton should just campaign and hope people don’t realize that he is the same man that was crying down everything about Dominica on the talk show.

No, we call him a baby because…
      1. Lennox is a cry-cry.
      2. Lennox has made his name vilifying persons but is now crying for the protection of the church leaders, the same leaders whom he also spent years persecuting whenever they did not tow his line.
      3. No sooner after lennox had signed the code, he began insulting his opponents, right in the presence of the religious leaders. (Do you remember this, Miami?)

Even you, Miami, would have found it curious and even laughable that Linton is now crying out for protection from a code. And that is what you want me to vote into Praliament? You must have smoked some bad grass.

The Christian Council will never speak against Skerrit. Don’t count on it. They know the DLP is guilty, but they come on the radio and use this general statement. God has a special place for them because He is no respecter of persons.

When you accuse others, ensure that you are holy of hollies. Only God and God alone knows who is right and who is wrong; not you.
Do you not hate? Do you not practice prejudice? What do you say about those who spew hatred against the PM and consistently utilize derogatory words in describing him?
God knows who you are and what is imbedded in your heart. He also has a special place for people as you.

Is Mr. Linton serious? Why is he crying? Who hit him? In the general election of 2009,right up to now, Prime Minister Skerrit is quoted as saying that “no constitution, no law can prevent him from being nominated for the general elections”. The PM was and continue to be taken out of context. All manner of skeptics came on board and bashed the Hon. PM even to this day. Academics, Clergymen just name it. So if Lennox says that “our young people are prostituting themselves – let me spell that PROS -TITU-TING themselves for assistance from the public purse” and such a statement is subjected to a particular opinion, why is he crying. I wonder which “constitution, which law” can tell Mr. Linton that Danny Lugay is or was not properly nominated to contest the general elections for his party in the Roseau North Constituency never mind the “foolishness” that Shanks said in St. Joseph. Stop crying Lennox. You have given your fair share of blows. You were invited to come into the kitchen. You bravely and courageously came. If it is hot, please don’t blame anybody else. You set the benchmark. What about the blood sucker remark about the bishop of Roseau by your supporters ony our favorite radio program? Doesn’t that trouble you too?

    • Dorival John
      November 27, 2014

I totally agree with you, however Linton was speaking in light of the Code of Conduct which was signed by both parties. If the code was not signed I would have told Linton to take his blows like all politicians.

But the code is being broken by you know whom.. Since the code, have you listened to the meetings of both parties? It is like night and day. The launch of the UWP manifesto was free from maypwi and the like. Compare that to the launch of the DLP manifesto in Trafalgar the same day the code was signed.

Linton is right. The Council must address this and stop making general statements.

        November 27, 2014

Mr. Linton must stop being a cry-cry baby and take critizism like a man. If you want to be in politics you need to have a thick skin and concentrate on what you will do for the interest of the country. Religion or any church organization should be neutral and out of politics altogether. When religion gets into politics you have the crusades, ISIS, Iran, Ahganistan, Pakistan and all the other failed states.

Christian Council is a waste of time. Those folks have shown Dominicans they do NOT believe in any moral values unless it is something derogatory coming from UWP and UWP has proven that they are not in that. DLP have paid them(CC) so Skerrit and his gang can say what they want, it does not matter how bad, wrong or nasty it is. Christian Council has proven to be worse than DLP, which is, they will say the right things that people would like to hear but do nothing about the wrong things that’s being done or said. What a waste of time! Dominicans have lost respect for that moral police and as results crime will flourish and their voices (CC) will no longer play an effective part in our society.

You saying that, “The Christian Council knows who is driving mepuis, hate and prejudice in Dominica.”? Mr Linton, I have listened to an almost constant tirade of “mepuis, hate and prejudice” against the PM and the Labour Party on your talk show for the last 5 years and now you are asking the Christian Council to intervene in the campaign because you don’t like it done against you?

Toughen up Mr Linton. Show that you are strong and that you can take it because when you become PM, Mr Linton, you are going to be vilified like nobody’s business. Use the campaign as a practice session.

Lenny boy, do not expect anything DIFFERENT! The Christian Council is unable to demonstrate its moral and truthful ground as it has refused to call on THOSE known for the violations to stop. Instead they issue general statements about “politicians”, as if these politicians don’t have names nor belong to political parties. To use a phrase of a well known lawyer: “they know, they know …”
Don’t expect EVER, to hear the CC say anything favourable on the part of the UWP.
