It appears the United Workers Party’s (UWP) Danny Lugay will not be receiving any cooperation from the man he defeated in the Roseau North Constituency, the Dominica Labour Party’s (DLP) Julius Timothy, in the just concluded general election.
“I am not going to advise him either way, as they say how you make your bed is so you lie,” Timothy said in an interview with state-owned DBS Radio. “So he has set a path for himself, let him go. I am not going to dissuade him. I am not going to tell him he should not take that path that decision is entirely up to him.”
In the general election, held on Monday, Lugay bagged a whopping 639 more votes than Timothy, according to preliminary results.
The results show that Timothy got 1,636 votes while Lugay got 2, 275.
It was a defeat, which even Timothy himself admitted that he did not see coming.
“I must admit I did not see it. I really did not see it coming,” he stated. “A lot of the people who I was close too and we talked all the time, I was told that those very same people said that they wanted to see the back of me as parl rep….”
He noted he was of the firm conviction that he was going to be victorious.
“I think I did very good for the constituency in almost every aspect and I thought that I should have been victorious again,” he said.
Timothy first became Parliamentary Representative of the Roseau North constituency in 1995 for the UWP.
He crossed the floor from UWP to the DLP in 2007, following a leadership struggle in the UWP after the 2005 general election.
During the campaign in the run up to the election Timothy described Lugay as “not a factor” in the race.
Timothy now blames the recent loss on those who followed him to the DLP, returning to the UWP.
“In reality I think what happened is most of the people who came across with me to Labour, I think most of them went back,” Timothy stated.
He admitted defeat saying it was the choice of the people.
“The people decide whenever,” he stated. “It’s their choice. It’s not my father’s estate, it’s not my personal thing. I am here to represent them and if they choose not to elect me, that is a decision for them to take.”
He noted that Lugay came to the people of Roseau North offering them hope and “certain things.”
“So it’s up to him. He will make whatever method he’s going to use to be representative for them …that is up to him,” he stated.
He is adamant that the won’t meet with Lugay to discuss anything about Roseau North.
“If I have to assist anybody, in terms of plans for Roseau North, is whoever is going to succeed me as the Labour Party candidate. That is the person I will assist,” Timothy remarked.
The Reporter posed that question to create that controversy. Julius Timothy is DLP. Danny Lugay is UWP. All the negative comments should not be. My take on that. Opposition never helps Government since is only walk out they did in the last five years. My take the Reporter knows that so the question was intended to create controversy.

Now that the election is over, let us take a look at some things and institutions that were so heavily damaged to see if there is any thing we can do to mend them. The First thing I want to look at is the Bible. In my opinion nothing was more seriously damaged than The Christian Holy Bible. I am a born again believer and believe the bible is God’s inspired word. However, when I think of the way bible believing people behaved during this election, trust me, if I did not know God I would question the au-then-tic-i-ty of the bible. The evangelist for example, who led me to the Lord and taught me to stand on God’s word was by far worse than those he once referred to as sinners. In fact his name was even mentioned in the distribution of bribery although I personally have a hard time believing this one. However, the evangelist taught me as a convert that I should not only avoid evil, but the very appearance of it according to 1 Thessalonians 5:22. Now I have to question if the evangelist was right in his interpretation because his behavior left many to think twice. However folks, let’s not get doubt the bible because of the evangelist. Utilize your common sense if you have any. Tim is DLP. Lugay is UWP. They are supposedly political enemies. Lugay will not be occupying the same office that Tim had. Why should Tim help him at all? He has no reason to help the man. He is not handing over the reigns to him. Lugay must start from scratch, on his own.

Most aspirin, are blood thinners, so whereas that clown head to Martinique for such simple treatment that is an indication that there were no aspirin; not even one in the hospital. More people have entered Princes Margaret hospital with minor problems and within days, they came out dead! Within the ten years, plus that man became served as Minister of Health, many of my relatives died for lack of proper medical attention, the last to suffer is my niece who was beaten mercilessly went to the hospital, the sent her home, four times without any medical treatment.
She bleed internally until she dropped dead, let us hope that the minister of health will change Princes Margaret Hospital from a butcher shop back to a hospital, and he will see to it Skerrit build a new hospital in Marigot.
I am glad that scamp lost his seat, time will tell, some of them who has kept Dominica down for fifteen years may all drop dead before the end of this five year term: We remember Rosie Douglas, fate, we also remember Pirie Charles fate.

Anybody who knows the character of that crook Timothy, knows very well that nothing better is expected of him. One of the reasons the UWP lost the election in twenty years ago was because of conduct unbecoming of that man. Those of us who have a long memory, will remember, the issue of the Shine Company, which left Dominica, and expanded on two other islands in the Windward islands.
We remember, the Labor Party, of which Roosevelt was part of and still is; alleged that Timothy sleep with the owner of the company, and in compensation for sex, allowed her to extract her goods from the custom without paying any duties on the commodities. Dominicans believe that, as a result he lost his seat, the entire UWP team was sent home by the people.
When he got kicked out, by the time the same people who assassinated his character took office, he was busy advising the new finance minister in the coalition party. What some of us know, that many Dominicans do not know is while finance minister in Edison James Government, he on many occasions undermined Edison. I have not lived in Dominica for a long time, but if anybody wish to know if I am speaking the truth, perhaps they can ask Edison James about his visit with Timothy in Timothy’s office, and what transpired then.
(Francisco know, but I doh talking eh): What do we know all of a sudden Skerrit appointed that crook into his government, naming him minister of health! If Timothy who’s profession was fishing, the man was a professional fisherman prior to getting into politics could function as minister of finance, and again minister of health, why should Lugay need to get advise from a born looser, that puppet who prostituted himself to Rosie and the Labor Party; and more recently to the god Skerrit who employed him for compensation for the damage, and treachery he used against his own party.
Lugay is not going to be minister of anything for the moment, he is in the opposition, what help would he need from a crook, unless he was going teach him how to undermined Lennox as he Timothy did to Edison James. politics is not a big deal in Dominica, the man can learn as he go along, and will be prepared for five years from now. Berice Hammon, destra, McCluckin, and the list goes on. All the projects to foreigners. They dont care about the country. Hartley Henry. Petre Wakeham and Charlie Jung that’s who are bleeding the country. Roseau North is accident prone. Some of the people turned into his baby machine and only election time he knows them. People placed down their feet. Roseau(s) people have good brains. They look at the real picture and they worship no false Gods.

I love me some Dominica…!! I have been away for a while, I witnessed the abuse of power and betrayal of the people’s trust first hand…. believe me I saw it first hand ( right at home). Surprised, appalled and revolting experiences taught me some valuable lessons.. How not to be, how to see these politicians and how to measure their dedication to service.. There is not a day that goes by that I do not think about home, the plight of Dominican and the deceptions of some of those who claim to serve us. Though I am an ocean away my heart still dwells on how to make a difference and how to contribute. Resourceful, creative, exciting, strong, beautiful, artistic, resilient are but a few adjectives that describe Dominican, the secret is to put aside the political divide and philosophical differences and let us unite under the creed of the national anthem, “all for each and each for all” to prosper as a nation and people.

Sure people have short memory and look for instant results, but most of the politicians are power hungry opportunist who tell us what we want to hear to achieve specific goals. Pay attention, listen, they only come to us at election time, after election they do not necessarily attend to our concern and needs, heck they hardly even listen to us. They very often are concerned about the collective goals of the party rather than championing the concern of the people. So if these guys gives us peanuts and think we are gullible enough to fall for it as a service then they are insulting us and our intelligent… people measure these guys by what they DO. ” DEEDS are what matter. When they fail to produce delete and recycle them! As for my opinion ( and it is only my opinion) the government are not attentive to the needs of the people, for what is is worth we should be doing a lot better than we are at this moment…. Yet people do not pay attention to what these guys do, they control the media and they control the narrative and they feeds is rhetoric and most people fall for it. It is like keeping us hungry and promising to feed us to curb the hunger and we keep falling for it.

It is just as well Linton lost the election. Were it not for the popularity of James who greatly assisted Linton to win Marigot, he would not have won it on his own cognizant. He won the seat by a floops. It is nothing for him or anyone to brag about.

The man was failing his people in the community. Look at the state of the roads in Fond Cole, Stockfarm, Tarish Pit… It should never be a situation where people have to constantly beg you for them to survive teach the people to survive. Teach them to bake the bread instead of giving it to them. You never know you could reap harvest from the people instead of them only getting from you. The people would appreciate you more. Although I do agree that Lennox Linton should have given a proper concession speech and thanked all the voters and victors for the race that they ran. Did he say anything that was a lie? Also the entire election was rigged from the beginning and everyone knows it.

2) The process by which you voted and how anyone could vote for anyone, I personally just said that is me and pointed to a name on the list when voting, just to see what they would do, and I did not know any of the polling station employees, and they definitely did not know me.
3) The fact that everyone knows Skerrit was in Grand Fond giving out money to people on the same day of elections.
4) Roseau North constituency allowing people to enter to vote after 630pm when voting was supposed to be closed by 5pm. (I know because I was one of the people who went in)
Now clearly I am being anti-Labour, but I will say this, I have no problem with a Labour government, and I fully believe that given the proper backing Skerrit is a much better leader for a unified country than Linton is, but also a proper government must have a proper Parliament, and the state it is in currently is sad. Yes it was caused by the 2005 UWP parliamentarians who decided to boycott the parliament and caused it to become a pappy show with Alix Boyd Knight presiding over the biggest circus in Dominica.

I respect your opinion Joe, however I embrace a different philosophy. We can accept what these guys do, and say this is how it is or we can do something about it. The people employ them and we can fire them. During the campaign we can disseminate what is realistic and what is not. Danny can achieve NOTHING on his own. This is a democracy that require consensus and co-operation. We have to get beyond the idea that it is US vs THEM and work together for the common good of all people. If Francisco was as smart and educated as he claimed to be he would see that I did not deny that Skerrit brought down voters. I said that the voters he brought down did not have such a huge impact on the election that workers would have won it if they did not come down to vote. Three questions : 1. Do you have the exact number of people who were paid to come from the Diaspora to vote. 2. In what constituencies ans in what proportions were they dispatched 3. When you take them off the total voters, what percentage of locals voted UWP.
Sorry blaze. I have to disagree with you on the effect of diaspora voters. I paid for my own ticket to come home, and was SHOCKED by the numbers of people I saw at the airport, both coming and going. We may all have our assumptions on how many people it may be, but the point is that it was considerable, and as an expensive investment you cannot simply speculate that it had no impact. You can see that larger communities turned blue, but in small ones like Grand Fond, Laplaine, etc. as little as 100 people (and in some cases as few as 5) may have impacted the vote. No one knows the number of people but based on what I saw at the airport, and the people I know in the diaspora who received tickets, this number was well over 1,000!
While you may be living alright, I’m sure you don’t have to travel far to see many people who aren’t. What faith are they to have in their governing system if they see it being undermined in such a blatant way, and excused away by so many? Why should anyone bright, promising and ambitious seek to help govern the country? The current process would appeal primarily to the bold, criminal, or shady individuals with nothing to lose and all to gain! We need to safeguard our processes not for the benefit of either political party, but to ensure the government is accountable to us. So long as they can rely on “outside voters” that are not there to feel the daily effects of life on island, they are not compelled to do what we require.

Sure people have short memory and look for instant results, but most of the politicians are power hungry opportunist who tell us what we want to hear to achieve specific goals. Pay attention, listen, they only come to us at election time, after election they do not necessarily attend to our concern and needs, heck they hardly even listen to us. They very often are concerned about the collective goals of the party rather than championing the concern of the people. So if these guys gives us peanuts and think we are gullible enough to fall for it as a service then they are insulting us and our intelligent… people measure these guys by what they DO. ” DEEDS are what matter. When they fail to produce delete and recycle them! As for my opinion ( and it is only my opinion) the government are not attentive to the needs of the people, for what is is worth we should be doing a lot better than we are at this moment…. Yet people do not pay attention to what these guys do, they control the media and they control the narrative and they feeds is rhetoric and most people fall for it. It is my feeling that many who voted for UWP are radicals. During a relevant course of conversation, I told this to someone. Remember Lugay’s words on a campaign platform. Remember Linton’s words. These people strike me as radicals. I would never vote for radicals or a radical party.

Mr Timothy, I am one of the persons in Roseau North who voted for you. And to tell you the truth I am very disappointed by your comments. I can see that you are not happy with the results and understandably so. But stop lashing out, it does not become you. Accept you defeat, as they say “take it like a man”. But let us be real. As a voter in your constituency I know that you were not going to win, so how is it that you did not see it coming? I tried, I encouraged people to vote for you, but it was not enough. All persons going up for office needs to keep their ears on the ground to get an idea/feel of their constituents. Last election a certain someone had to beg you to go canvassing your constituency, it made a difference. I am not sure, but I did not see nor hear of you canvassing. You knew before hand that Fond Cole was not going to vote for you, and persons that you assisted in Gutter were not going to vote for you. So why do you say you did not see it coming? The Prime Minister has offered an olive branch to the opposition and we are hoping that they will take it for the sake of Dominica’s development. When you speak like that you are saying to the opposition that we are not really extending an olive branch. I know that you are not happy with the results, you are not friends with Danny, but you should keep the negative comments to yourself. It is not everything that you think and feel that you should utter, but that’s an act that comes with maturity. You know that you do not want to help Danny, so when the reporter asks, you could have simply said “we will see what happens when the time comes” or “no comments at this time”. Wow Roseau North became in existence only after the UWP party was formed. So good to know that; but to me I lived in Goodwill long before the UWP was formed and I know many Dominicans were born at the Princess Margaret Hospital right here in Goodwill.
