A new political party has announced its formation in Dominica and has said it is opening its doors for membership.
The Peoples Party of Dominica (PPOD) says it is based in Roseau and its mission is “to improve lives by mobilizing the people of Dominica, both in the Caribbean and in the diaspora to build a safer, cleaner, stronger, and thriving 21st century Dominica.”
“The party is driven with the passion of building a partnership with its constituents, Nongovernmental Organizations, and foreign governments,” a release from the party’s PRO, Reymonia Williams said. “The aim is to work together with citizens to build them up as entrepreneurs, to build their businesses, and to build a better future for all citizens.”
The party said it has a strong vision, concrete plans, and a smart team to create and implement plans to move the island forward.
“The team of philanthropists are (sic) determined to expand the opportunities for every Dominican towards creating a 21st century Dominica that will be recognized in the committee of nations,” the release continued. “The team comprises of amazingly talented and capable people who want to see a thriving Dominica and is committed to moving Dominica forward. The diverse team of leaders is creative, dedicated and selfless individuals who are out to improve how things are done in Dominica and make our country great.”
The release went on to say, “The Peoples Party of Dominica’s platform serves as an inspirational tool to galvanize the people of Dominica, who passionately treasure and foster social unity, economic growth and meaningful change. A change that is fueled by steadfast determination, an upward scope of growth, integrity, and fearless compassion. A change that stands to make Dominica a more inclusive, vibrant, and prosperous place for every soul in Dominica. The party aims to build the best Dominica through improvement in education and healthcare, boosting of the economy by providing an enabling
environment for entrepreneurship, grassroots development, and creation of job opportunities.”
Dominica News Online was told that the President of the party is Claudine Williams.

I would like to ask Mr Francis Joseph and Dr Francis Severin to come to the front and either form a new party or head up one of the existing parties. These two gentlemen are my choice to lead the change process in Dominica. So far, these are the only two people who have shown me that they have the best interest of Dominica and Dominicans at heart. This Claudine Williams person I have never heard of and personally if you are not on the ground in Dominica I don´t want to hear from you. Just saying it like it is.

They will need donations to primarily operate an office.
Election is a few years away. I assume they are in the process of building up their Party, office and Website as also membership.
You have reasons to ask questions. As they build-up their Party, they will have more to offer you, as more information about themselves and their overview of plans for Dominica. Give them an opportunity since as I stated, every Party deserves a chance.

DFP will rise again. It was Freedom Party that put Dominica on the map in the first place. WE had more during freedom time than we have now. Better schools, sports facilities , health centers and farmers had more markets to sell their goods.

Dominica needs a new party but this one has been launched all wrong. The vague, snake oil salesman words don’t mean anything. None of the photos relate to anything Dominican. There is no information about the founders of the party. There’s a donation button but no case for support to tell me why I should be donating and to what. Plus the donation button doesn’t work; it links to a non-existent donation page. Amateurs! They’ve already damaged themselves with this inadequate, uninspiring launch. Too much is hidden; how can people trust anything they say? I sure don’t.
Dominica does not need a new party. Dominica needs honest, open, transparency, credible people to hold on to the existing party. There is nothing wrong with the DLP, UWP, DFP as a party, there are massive issues with the current holders and leaders of this DLP party and its current leaders and leadership who has in the past over 10 years corrupted its reputation, name and used it and the opportunity to be in office to enrich self and act as rogues running around the world. Whoever you people are please, we do not need another political party in Dominica. The alternative and party in waiting in Dominica is the UWP. They are sound, mature, trustworthy and experience with Dominica at heart. If you all want to build Dominica join the UWP and help build Dominica outside of the DLP.
The election was stolen off them twice before by the DLP. Dominica is tired with new and emerging political parties., we must stay focus and build up on what we have. I do not wish to go down in history as the most negative Dominican to have ever lived, nevertheless, one of the reasons I am spectacle and must say suspicious about this so called party is that they do not even have a professional website.
It is hard to figure out their intentions. To crown it all they are already asking for donations, which makes it appears more like a get rich scam!
When political parties are soliciting money from people it has to be for a cause or purpose; in this case however; there is nothing, which justify asking for donations!
I do agree that a third party may just be needed in the country, because that may be the only way to get rid of Skerrit and his circus clowns, in that no one party might get the majority of votes, hence a coalition government could be formed against Skerrit ruthless and corrupt regime!
I don’t think it’s negative of you to ask these questions and make these observations. Anyone trying to get into politics should have their act together if they want to be taken seriously.

To say the truth, not withstanding the 43 comments previously listed, I think a new political party in Dominica would be a breadth of fresh air. Considering what we have to go through with Labor Party and the present fiasco with the UWP unable to make a critical decision about D ISSUE. It seems that the existing Freedom party is yet or scared to come out of the woods. Therefore a new party, with new ideas, with new leadership, whether based in New York or Chicago with roots in Dominica, if the Williams sisters or cousins can attract the right people, it would be good for Dominica. While the comments about the people being out of touch, I think they are just trying to get a feel of all of us. So for starters, I will give them a listening. We need some real, convincing dedicated Dominicans to bring some moral change to My Sweet Dominica.

This party clearly needs to step it up but instead of giving negative feedback, try to think positive and give encouragement. This party might not be the one to bring change, they might be bogus, but the future leaders looking on might be intimidated by the country’s negative mindset.

I’m paying attention because that is all i can afford living in this country and then i will give positive feedback to generate a positive change.
Let me point out a few areas where you have already failed in your launching;
1. You are using general templates for your photos. Why not use actual photos to promote Dominica. For example there are is a group of professionals working together, why not a group of locals working together? If you don’t have a photo search DNO you will find one.
2. The president and PRO where is you all photo and bio? And that of other members who are already part of the party?
3. Why a US number?
4. Looks like you all are based in the US, actually I personally know the president and the PRO are. Launching locally and being in the grounds will give you all better leverage and the people in Dominica will trust you all better.
5. Where are your links to promote the country? Wouldn’t you want your page to immediately sell the fact that you are looking to head a country?

If I were to start a political party in Dominica, the first thing I would do is to introduce members on the local media, introduce Moto, then direct citizens to web page and introduce planned local events. As much as I like the idea of having options I looked at the site and all contact numbers are abroad, and donations are the first thing requested. I will not jump out of a plane unless I checked my parachute and ensure that it is in condition. This is suspect.
I know here in Dominica we have a Government that is questionable in some eyes, and some do not see the Opposition as an option to run our country but this “New Party” has to come way better than that. First of all leave Jacksonville Florida and reside here in Dominica for a few years then we can start to talk. And that ‘donation button’ on your website get reed of it; it is too early for that. My people it is only wise to be careful.

I look at every party and criticize where i see fit and give positive complements where i see needed. Now my first impression was ‘WOW’ a new party thus giving another option. I looked at the site and tried to find the people names linked to the party and have not found them yet except for a NY address. I started to wonder if this is a party trying to run from overseas. I decided to call and i have called several times. It is a google number with a forwarding service it seems and no one has answered me yet. I will call again through-out the day and see what information i can receive before i give my full opinion.

I checked your website. Who is the guy in the photo, very slick looking and well groomed, but who is he, is he Dominican? Who are Claudine Williams and Reymonia Williams? Can we have a profile of those forming the party? I see that there is already a mechanism to donate. To whom are we donating and for what purpose? The party is based in Roseau – where?
Modern Technology is good but there would be a sizeable portion of the population who will not be able to check your website and learn about you. Can I suggest that the originating team get on to one of our radio stations and talk about your party? I think Dominicans like to see and feel to believe. This is not a criticism, just stating a fact, you sound a bit like a remote control operation and some of your upcoming activities sound a bit foreign. I am not purporting to be your political advisor here, but I believe you need to get more culturally acclimatised.

When you visit this so-called party’s web site you will clearly see that they are far far far from ready! The site seems to be way out of touch with Dominica, with photos that do not relate in any way to Dominican politics. It includes a video with a discussion between some white people about gun violence in Baltimore, Maryland schools. This so-called People’s Party of Dominica seems more like a gimmick or a fund-raising scam than an authentic alternative to the three political parties currently on Island. Well, to be fair, maybe we can say that it was meant to be some kind of joke to poke fun at the current political climate of tribal and divisive politics that now exists. Yet, if that is not the case and this is in fact serious, then the web-site certainly did not, does not and will not help these people’s cause. The whole thing is quite laughable! I, LabourOfLove, would kindly advise these individuals to go back to the drawing board and try again!
