No politician involved in relief supplies distribution -Linton

Linton said supplies should go to those in need

Opposition Leader Lennox Linton says he is satisfied that there is no political interference and no politician is involved in the distribution of relief supplies to areas affected by Tropical Storm Erika.

Linton told Dominica News Online (DNO) on Tuesday after a meeting of the National Reconstruction Advisory Committee, which consists of all 21 parliamentarians, that the issue was one of the items on the agenda.

“We had a good meeting … this one was basically focusing on some critical matters like the distribution of relief supplies which is on everybody’s mind right now, the fairness, the equity,” he said. “We have a clear idea in our minds as to what we want and the group of politicians at the level of parliament are all united in the objective for fair and equitable distribution of relief supplies.”

He noted that based on what was said at the meeting, he is satisfied that no politician is involved in the distribution of relief supplies.

“And so I am satisfied, based on the meeting that I attended this morning, that whoever maybe involved in some indiscretion or the other that translates over into unfairness or unjust behaviour in the distribution of supplies, they are not under the direction of any politician to do that,” he remarked.

He said on both sides of the political fence “share the same purpose that the relief supplies should go to the people of Dominica in need regardless of color, regardless of creed, religious preference … whatever makes them different.”

The Opposition Leader mentioned that the committee heard from personnel involved in distributing supplies and the commitment was given that issues and challenges which have emerged will be addressed.

There have been reports on the airwaves and on social media of political unfairness in the distribution relief supplies after the storm.

On Monday night Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, addressed the matter saying the reports were “unsubstantiated” and “unwarranted.”

He did admit, however, that in the distribution of relief supplies on such a magnitude that “there could be clogs in the system.”

We must be fair and just. The broadminded ones are elated that Hon. Lennox Linton, the Leader of the Opposition is assisting with Dominica’s relief efforts.
The PM did something good. He knows everyone should be involved in re-building Dominica. He could not have possibly left out UWP Cabinet.
This is no time for criticisms and which are directed at Lennox. Shame on you! It is also unfair to him. If you critics had any compassion for your country and those who are affected by the tropical storm, Erika, you would not have made such out-of-the-way comments which are really out of place and derogatory. After this storm, I did not expect it from you. You should have been out helping.
I am informing you Linton, do your best as you have agreed to and ignore those ignorant people. OK!
We will all say to them as Our Lord Jesus Christ said on the cross: “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.” In this case, “for they know not what they say.”

this is the perfect opportunity to give duty free on building material. so many houses broken down.trade men would be working .dumper drivers will get work. hardware shop .shop assistance will be busy. so many spin offs if the leaders put their minds to work,

Well done Mr Linton, you have gone up in my estimation, and I wish that we could have proportional representation in Dominica where the opposition party can play a more active role. This is the unity we need in Dominica, not business as usual where we are so devisive and aggressive towards each other. I am hoping and praying that we can set an example for others to follow by behaving in a more mature way where politics is concerned in the Caribbean. I was not a supporter of Mr Linton or his party in the past, but I certainly think that he has behaved in a way which I expect men who have been elected by the people to behave. I am hoping that he will set an example for his colleagues within his party to follow and also on the government side.

Lennox, one thing you need to remember is this, though some people may not be directly under the direction of any one particular politician: Dominicans like to take on their own and do things they believe is expected of them

    I. E. we remember a police officer viciously beat an old man in the streets of Roseau, the man contend the police used a foreign object to beat his head in. When the man ask the police why are you beating me, the police responded by saying you are cursing the prime minister!

You see the brainwashed psychological mentality, of the police officer is simple; he did what he hope Skerrit would expect him to do, we have to be careful that the people involved do not maintain that sort of mentality.

When Hurricane David struck, I went home, and serve a few people in my village, I took home food, medicine, and money too; over head were United Stated Helicopters dropping off relief packages everybody got, their due; however, where all Dominicans are involve, I am…

      Dominica Massive,

You took the words out of my mouth! My congratulations go out to Mr. Linton. I think this is a good opportunity for him to experience at first hand leadership in crisis. I am also very happy that he has chosen the higher ground at this time. I was very concerned and disappointed about some pronouncements which I had heard on a radio station earlier in the crisis and I am glad that he has moved forward from that.

My position has always been that Dominica is not Mr. Skerrit and those who think and behave as if Dominica is, are making a horrendous mistake. I think both Mr. Skerrit and Mr. Linton have finally taken unto themselves a dose of humility and suppressed their personal feelings for the benefit of the bigger picture.

Since my eyes always see two sides, I can only pray now that the supporters on both sides will allow them to continue the building of the new Dominica, not just the infrastructure but the human spirit and unity of purpose. Hats off!

I do respect for mister Linton and follow what he says and do carefully. I believes he does not say things without facts but I think he is wrong on this one. They might not be directly but,,,,,,wow,,,,,,,huummmmm. I think he should do a little more investigations. I might be wrong and the news about who is in charge of the distribution might be right but there is something fishy going on I think the government (blue & red) have to get to the bottom of.

Regardless the person who call the talk shows know what they are going thru, so they have a right to let the world that is sending aid for them to know they are not getting it, so they will change the way they are supporting the Island I do believe it’s better if they provide aids and they distribute the supplies and by doing so everyone will get .
Mr.Linton the seed is already planted by the PM over the years so his supporter know what is expected of, the politicians don’t have to say much just their attitude and behavior dictate what to do, so I would suggest you don’t kid yourself.

Some of these comments to me suggest that Dominicans do not take the time to read. Mr Linton never said there is no bias or unfairness in distribution of relief. We all know of the reports (some from reputable people) and Mr Linton only yesterday asked those involved to stop it. This article speaks to something different: Mr Linton is saying that based on his meeting today he doesn’t think there is any interference by politicians in the distribution. The politicians are not involved in the distribution but unfortunately their diehard supporters are and some of them are not conducting themselves appropriately shameful.

In light of our present. no matter what some does to do the right thing, there are those who are wired, and bent on creating problems to further their agenda, thats life and human nature. Please do not be distracted, by those who just blow hot air sit on the side lines do nothing but embrace drama. We all in this together, win, loose or draw Dominica is ours to build and regardless of who build it does not matter. Keep our eyes on the price, imagine we are in the lens of the World we should grab the opportunity and take maximum advantage, remember, we are still in thr hurricane season, and just like God forbid another area is affected we can very quickly be forgotton. so make hay whilst the sun shine. if Mr or Miss so and so wants to build us an international Air port, Grab the offer with both Hands.

Dno staff are tired, we appriciate your efforts and looking forward for less moderation, if i must say without you we dont know what we would do. but once the comments, or opions expressed does not violate your policies. as we knoe this is 2015 and D. N. O. is on top of things. Thanks again.

Why is it that we cannot put politics aside and come together for the good of our people?

I am part of a group of volunteers who have worked tirelessly to provide assistance to our people. We have raised money and are in the process of shipping items to assist the less fortunate in Dominica. At no time has the notion of political partisanship ever come up in any of our meetings. All we know is that we are giving of out time, money and resources to help our people. I hope they accept and receive the aid in the same spirit.
