“Not the Dominica E.O. Leblanc spoke about” – Athie Martin

The Citizens Forum for Good Governance last night held the latest edition of its Listen, Learn, Educate (LLE) tour at Enbas Mango in Vielle Case.

The non-partisan effort, received well by those in attendance, featured speeches from politicians such as Bernard Witshire, UWP candidate for the Castle Bruce constituency in the last general elections and Maynard Joseph, former Freedom Party parliamentary representative for the Vielle Case constituency, as well as other notable citizens, Tiyani Behanzin and Clayton Shillingford, president of the Dominica Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Atherton Martin, who chaired the proceedings, insisted that the Dominica that currently exists is far removed from the vision of Vielle Case’s own Edward O. Leblanc, former Premier of Dominica.

Martin said, “[This] is not the kind of Dominica that E.O. Leblanc spoke to us about in the 1960’s. The Dominica he spoke about was one in which we showed respect for youth, for culture, for history and in particular, the elders among us.” He referenced the December 2010 fire-bombing of the Emmanuel residence.

The Forum also afforded residents of Vielle Case and nearby communities the opportunity to voice some of their concerns.

Despite rumors of an impending protest of the proceedings in which Dominica Labour Party supporters were expected to wear red hat and shirts to the Forum, it went off without disturbance.

The LLE tour has previously been to the communities of Scotts Head, Portsmouth and Colihaut.

I am reading all the critics vented towards and against Athie Martin and it’s sounds more like mudd slinging more than anything constructive and objective. Many of us who can analyse the life of our parents and grand parents and the era of Leblance would agree and appreciate that those people stood for more of what is right and principle and some of your writings disrespectful writings here proves that.If we were to make a comparison between Roosevelt Medard Skerrit and Athie Martin as to who has contributed more to Waitukubuli and its economy it cannot be Roosevelt Medard Skerrit. What did Skerrit contribute to Dominica before entering politics?People of Vielle Case, how could u allow Skerrit to come right in your face and build such a house for which he has not worked for?The day will come when you people of Vielle Case who voted for Roosevelt Medard Skerrit will regret to the point of stoning him and chasing him out of Vielle Casse.

Lest we forget ,Arthurton Martin was nominated to post of Minister of Agriculture in the Rosie Douglas led Labour Party government but chose to resign over the mundane issue over WHALING.How is it that such an influential PATRIOTIC Dominican such as Mr Martin would choose GREENPEACE over the issues of his country, was it the massive cash donation which prompted his decision to resign from the Cabinet and Minister of Agriculture. At least our Agriculture should be more important to Mr Martin than whales in the ocean How unpatriotic

    • REASONING
      June 27, 2011

Claudius Ant Tony,u did not give us the reason for Athie Martin’s resignation as minister for agriculture. In as much as i supported Roosie Douglas,i agreed with Athie for resigning as it was on principle, this shows Athie was not in government for self and power.During the campaigne of 2000 general elections the Labor Party under the ledership of Roosie was against the killing of whales, when the time came for voting on the issue while in office the decision was taken not to vote in favour and behind the back of Athie as minister for agriculture Roosie gave a letter to the person representing Waitukubuli to vote in favour of the killing of whales,so by principle the best thing Athie could do is resign and all respect should be given to him. That’s what we lack in Waitukubuli, principle, why we are in such a mess.Roosie crooked his own minister then some of his ministers like Skerrit did it to him and Skerrit also did it to Pierro and ended in their graves.Roosie and Pierro’s crookedness killed them,i hope their souls is resting in peace and not pieces. Therefore Roosevelt Medard Skerrit will face his judgement soon, his fate is not far away,i hope u know the good book says what a man sow that he shall reap.

I say hurrah for Dominica. This is considered Democracy in action. I am very happy to know that Dominican can express there opinion without fear of reprocautions. I know Athie Martin very well. I met him in Vieille Case when I worked there and came in contact with him again in Castle Bruce over thirty years ago. To Athie Martin credit, he always had praise for our [Icon] former Chief Minister Edward Leblanc. I am surprised he is still active in Politics. I know Maynard Joseph very well, not only that we are related but we served on the Vieille Case Credit Union Board of Directors together. He is very smart and hard working. I know he has the best Interest of the Country at heart. I knew Skerrit as a young boy and not as a prime Minister, However, I have come to know of his work from various medium which brought me to the ntion that Domnicans of all political persuation should join with him to continue moving Dominica forward for international appreciation and recognition. I do not remember Dominica ever had a Surplus and therefore, Diverting funds allocated to Dominica to other islands in the Carribbean Basin. As a Dominican, I am proud of our Government which Lead by Prime Minister Skerrit. I am happy to say, Vieille Case gave Dominica two remarkable Leaders. This is not to say prior leaders were not remarkable.

It is better people like these old activist come to the realization that after 45 years of trying to stop any perceived progress in Dominica that has not originated from their conceptual thought to retire with some dignity!!!

Some of these very gentlemen refused to work under the very same Mr. E O Leblanc when he was once Dominica’s Premier. One of the gang was a teacher and decided to leave Dominica all together after receiving his Doctorate in Agriculture and went as so far and threw stones behind his back when he was leaving; married a Jamaican and sometime later came back posing with his trophy who left and called him a small island man with no class , no vision, and no status and so up to today he want to prove to his trophy that long divorce him that he can achieve the top job in Dominica by becoming the President of Dominica.

At least that one has some retired money and built a house in Dominica.

The others in the gang leave much to be desired.

At no time can any right thinking person classify the activities of this gang of citizens as patriotic. Seeking self interest first cannot be patriotic.

Some moved from SOFAD when they were in Florida under the time of the Dame and made only promises and secured photo-opportunities as their claim to fame over many years with previous leaders of Dominica and never delivered on any of the promises made to the leaders of Dominica then.

Mark you they are good at forming nice sounding names of organisations with ideal objectives never rooted in practicality.

If these men want to achieve respect they would be better running political science courses for school children or take the time to publish a book or two; I don’t know why they are fraid of publishing!!! Maybe they know other books will be published too; but guys seriously when your credibility currency has been fully spent with nothing to show for it you will never have a majority taking you all seriously in this Country and therein lies the problem with your gang.

Athie is trying again to implement an underlying dark plot. Why can he not focus on the POSITIVES for once? The world belches mostly negativity, DA is Blessed by the Almighty God with abundance of ‘water’, flower, fauna and food despite this he rather continue to crush the dreams and inspirations of the youth; the Dominican entrepreneurs and lastly sending bitter reverberations around the world and the globe:

Athie (AM) is a very destructive force sent by whom? His ego and ambition is ultimately leadership of the Country and to destabilise it that is his modus operandi…Fortunately he will not achieve this wicked plan.
The PM, His Government and strategists need not TAKE any heed of Athie as he is stale and has gone beyond and past his sell by date; he has gazumped many a project of aspiration for his own personal ambition, I talk from personal experiences.

Finally, the folly of it all UWP note he did this to your government when you were in power, he also disrespected the late Rosie Douglas and Pierre Charles he is the inherent Weapon of Mass Destruction…

At this stage Dominica is indeed at the crossroads. A government with no balls allowing the chinese to control every project they finance, selling our bithrights and a castrated opposition. To sum it up clowns to the left jokers to the right and the people stuck in the middle

This so-called “Citizens for Good Governance” that you call yourselves, is obviously an am of the UWP plain and simply put. You guys should have realized by now that your strategy hasn’t been bringing to bear the fruits of your desires, which is the toppling of this DLP Government.

While I may not be qualified to give sound political advice, as a voter, may I please offer some advice if you are ever to be taken seriously as a party?

Before you stage even one more of your “People’s Parliament” and “Citizens for Good Governance” meeting, you return to the drawing board; return to your cocoon, where you do some careful introspection. Upon so doing, if you are to be true to yourselves, you will have come to the realization that no one other than you as the management of this once formidable party has caused it’s demise. This is so all due to your not having listened to those who truly have the party’s interest at heart.

In continuance this introspection you will also come to the realization, that while the country is in dire need of a government in waiting, your party just isn’t that choice for which we as a country yearn.

You have failed us as an opposition. Your support base diminishes daily.

If you are to be successful in the next general election, those outdated strategies need to be tossed aside forthwith, thereby making way for new and more modern strategies that will work.

An injection of youthful life is needed for the success of the party.

why does my good friend Lennox, keep wasting his time..Lennox you level of ideas and issues arent suited for the Dominican Market, please put that in your pipe and smoke it…

Sit back and think deeply…if Dominicans were Brilliant Citizens and understood the rule of law and were God fearing they would have stopped and disciplined the child from the first instance of doing wrong at home..

Dont you see Dominicans still love Skero, and even though he may attempt to call a election he will still cun the citizens with his lovely smile and show a few $$$ notes in their faces, in the end they will say thank God for Skero…you are intelligent to understand that Dominicans arent a classy act of citizens its time you bit the bullet and get rewarded for you skills elsewhere.

My advice is never attempt to run of Political office just keep your watchdog aspects always. thats your Gift from God to be impartial always..

But Dominicans will never be a fore runner island…as citizens are glady contend to be below par and lesser archivers always!!

    thanks for your listening….bye!

Are you asking that the people of Vieille Case vote against the Parliamentary Representative who has provided them with representation like no other before him has even done for the constituency? Well before this man was designated as Prime Minister, he had commenced with the fulfillment of his promise to constituents. Thanks but no thanks Arthie, you are the greatest of pretenders and opportunists that the island has ever seen.

He got cold feet because he saw how undaunting the task is. So just do what you can do athie, talk all you can. We are not worried about you. Come to my village next
