OECS integration tops Gregoire’s agenda

Felix Gregoire

Pushing the integration process forward has been identified as one of the top agenda items, for Dominica’s newly appointed Commissioner to the OECS and Ambassador to the OECS and CARICOM Felix Gregoire.

Gregoire’s official position was announced by Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit at a meeting last week, with Dominicans living overseas.

Gregoire, government’s former cabinet secretary, is replacing the late Charles Maynard who passed away recently.

“I am very happy to be part of this because all my life I have been trying to bring unity in what I do. In the workplace my strength was on team building and this is one of the reasons I excelled in the service. Now I am given a chance to work at an OECS level. I am happy I was afforded the opportunity to represent my country,” he explained.

Gregoire will attend the first meeting of the commission this week.

“I am relatively new to this position and I will be getting for information and understanding of my role. I want to push the integration movement in whatever way I can and with the support of persons who can help,” he said.

Gregoire’s contract is for one year in the first instance.

What is the real agenda mr. Gregoire? Integration of the OECS, to the exclusion of Caricom? It may be mr. Skerrit’s vowed mission to deliver the OECS, as a block into Alba, posing as a latter-day Simon Bolivar. However, do you really see the likes of Dr. Gonsalves, Dr. Anthony or other leaders of OECS territoriries take directions from would-be President Skerrit? We already have problems in this regard with respect to the Economic Citizenship programme, which would allow Dominican “citizens” free access to OECS countries with only the Dominican govt. benefitting from this lucrative trade. How kindly do the other leaders take to that you would think?

I wonder why is it that bureaucrats and Politicians plan or decide things for their fellow men without their consent. Why is it their personal ambitions are always what the people want when they are put in a position to serve the people. Why do they forget what their role is, to be servants of the people. Let me say I’m in no way against integration it does have advantages but we the people should be involved in the process at all levels and not left to bureaucrats and Politicians deciding such things in back rooms and closed meetings and never must sovereignty be compromised and taken away.

DNO,why don’t you play a role in promoting unity? Why do you sit there and help shoot the messenger by publishing such mischievous comments? Can’t you see that those mischief makers are only interested in pulling down the country and any one who dares to say anything positive? I wonder what you are waiting for before you take the necessary action?

Dats why Dominicans should beat their chest in pride. A land of milk n honey and jobs for the boys and gals so that they remain quiet and never open the eyes of Dominicans.
The place don’t have money and things tight, yet some eating, some getting bigger post, some building mansions n they giving 2* 4 shacks to pooor. Housing revolution for us and dem.
Dominicans will stomach all dese things, yet next election, will thank God for their king leader.
Look around, nothing to smile bout, just wories, pain, which are absorbed in a party spirit. When Dominicans, will want to open their eyes, the cookie jar would be empty. Its a big joke to hear and see what’s going on.
Oh yes, petro caribe: gas price will one day reach $60. But its okay, thank God for our king leader n his subjects. Something happening, but day speak in opposites. Give dem boys and gals a job to keep dem quiet. Sometng happening.

unite where? yu couldnt urge skerrit to unite dominica is OECS u can unite. all yu seeing is $$$$$, go and rest and let young people achieve their goals, let a young person aspire, am sure you could do some backyard gardening or fishng in Lapointe, or sit down by the road a play your dominoes, get to socialise in your village a bit, or even mobilize some community project, give back to your community, instead of taking bread from a young person’s mount

He will be “getting information and understanding of his role”?!Are these not contained in the treaties establishing and protocols governing these institutions which he ought to have read by now and the instructions given to him by the Ministry for External Affairs and the great and extensive knowledge he must have acquired in the Service?

What else could, should be on your agenda as ambassador to the OECS? This is like saying you want your roof to get wet when it rains.
