Opposition has something to offer – Austrie

Austrie said gov’t has extended an olive branch to the opposition

Acting Prime Minister, Reginald Austrie, has said the opposition has something to offer Dominica noting that “all the ideas don’t reside in one head.”

He was addressing the inaugration of the Morne Prosper Village Council last week.

Austrie noted that the government has in fact already extended an olive branch to the opposition.

“I am sure the oppostion has something to offer,” he stated. “But there is a way in which you do it, that there is no animosity … you have your idea, there is a correct form to which to bring your idea, there is a practice in which you do it…”

He stated that if a little of what he mentioned can be achieved “then we would have made a very big difference in the life and the future of Dominica.”

I am happy for the spanking that Mr Austrie is receiving for this statement. Coming form him it is purely hypocritical as he is known for chastising and even insulting his supporters who in their intelligence and fairness have anything positive to say about the opposition. We should be man enough to say in the public that which we say behind closed doors.

Smile my people!!! Minister Austrie thinks that he can fool the people with his utterances!! However, he is saying this only because of where he is!! He knows that he is surrounded by a constituency which does not support him but he has to be in their presence de to the occasion. So he is in attendance but does not want to be embarrassed out of the community and so he is watching his words and treading as a soldier would as he walks through a mine field!! He was indeed trained ‘in the jungles of Guyana’ but knowns when and where he can behave as a ‘bull dog’!! He is simply being careful what he says while walking the tightrope!! KEEP TRYING MR. AUSTRIE………YOU CANNOT FOOL THE PEOPLE WITH THIS ONE!!

    Austrie, listen to yourself…:
“I am sure the opposition has something to offer,” he stated. “But there is a way in which you do it, that there is no animosity … you have your idea, there is a correct form to which to bring your idea, there is a practice in which you do it…” RUBBISH

He stated that if a little of what he mentioned can be achieved “then we would have made a very big difference in the life and the future of Dominica.”

My response: your government is a bashing name calling government. CREDIBILITY QUESTIONABLE. Your government is not in anyway critical and value base on discussion on our development. We do not know where we going.
You want ideas and contribution, then go the Parliament and let us debate and have no secrets of Dominica’s development that we do not know off, only on surprises on preferred media houses.
Call parliament and have every minister accountable for their ministry without looking behind their backs looking for Skerrit before they open…

Reggie when you start talking I start running as fast and far away as I can until you stop.

Did you have a dream last night Reggie or did you become a Born Again Christian last Sunday? Any body who knows this guy and has followed his rude, in your face , insulting and maypey politics will dismiss his words he uttered at Morne Juane summarily. Sorry Reggie Austrie belongs to a by-gone era of politics. He is by no means a nice man.

Is Philbert Aaron aware that the acting Prime Minister is Reginal Austrie. He is so particular as to one’s education as regards being close to Skeritt’s job, it is funny he didn’t object to Regie holding the position. I would expect him to recommend Ian Douglas or Mrs. Pierre or Dr. Darroux.

Now that you’ve totally run out of ideas and money and you all are feeling more and more pressure you want to mellow your stance a bit. Lennox would be well advised to stay clear of all you guys. Labour, not look for a ‘partner’ now. If you are done get Skerrit to resign, call elections and start new, for all I care even with a coalition of two parties with good people, fresh ideas, anti-corruption and an open government that informs it’s citizen of all major decisions and contracts.

So are you admitting that all what we have seen from labour government came from one head. king Skeritt????? Hmmmmmm. Interesting. Working together does not mean kissing Skeritt a…. It involves bringing policy in parliament and debating, and voting on a final bill that moves Dominica forward. Not the SOS of Skeritt waking up in the morning and forming NEP, flying to China and announcing MOU to build hospital and airport, spending 50 million on geothermal exploration without adequate debate and consulting in parliament, competing with private sector in hotels, food and meat processing, construction, banking/ financing etc. Our idea of working together is twisted. If our development is not based on the strong values and principles of honesty, respect for each other and the law, hard work, self sufficiency, human Rights, freedom of association, freedom of speech. We will go nowhere together. If what I saw during last election is the status quo. We will forever remain in the gutters

When it gets to rock bottom then the truth has to come out. However, Austrie ONLY spoke a half truth and a half truth is still a wrong. What Austrie should have said is that all along, they knew the opposition had a lot to offer but they fooled the people in believing otherwise. However it is quite clear that the DLP ran out of ideas the day they printed their 2005 manifesto and the longer they remain in power, the worse Dominica will get.

I should think so too mr. Austrie, after all they represent well over 45% of the voters, the most educated of voters I dare say and it would be sheer lunacy to disregard them. As for the olive branch, typically this is an offer of peace and reconciliation with and admission of wrongdoing and regret. I have seen none of the latter. On the contrary, during the first sitting of the House you tried to outperform everybody else in badmouthing the opposition, trying to make them look small and insignificant. You better be careful what you ask for because in Roman times it were the defeated armies, who carried olive branches to indicate they were surrendering.

Wonder if Austrie talking in his sleep? Remember Skerrit left him back this time around not taking him to China with him and guess why? because the last time they went to China he Austrie say that Skerrit stayed up negotiating all night for hours but he could not take it so he fell asleep and left Skerrit do all the negotiating! as far as he Reggie was concerned that made Skerrit a good negotiator haha: so Skerrit decide defan Austrie not coming with me again to fall asleep on me. No boy so stay DA and sleep boss; Now Austrie look like he talking in his sleep – wait when Skerrit come back and wake him up then you will hear the real Austrie hahahaha!!

I agree with the comments of Austrie, but I don’t believe they are genuine. It is my opinion, if Skeritt was on island, Austrie would not have made those statements. I hope when Skeritt returns he will not be scolded. The DLP has a manifesto of Team Dominica UWP, why didn’t they pick out what they considered to be good for Dominica and with the blessings of the UWP implement some of the programs.

This olive branch has no leaves! A few short weeks ago the opposition was ” not a factor.” Now they have “something to offer” but on the authority of this Honourable Minister, however, they must offer it in the right way and in correct form and practice. Will it be accepted? This evokes memories of the Biblical Cain and Abel story. But just who will play God in this case? Who gets to decide whether opposition offerings are in the right way or the wrong way? And what happens if what they offer is chosen? Will the green monster of jealousy show his big ugly head? God does not accept presumptuousness my Dear Minister Austrie.

In all honesty, election is over and it would be in the best interest of the country for both parties to put the heads together and move the country forward. I’m not a fan of the current labour administration but for the good of our country, politics should be put aside and move the country to a better place

This makes sense. This is what matured people will do. United we stand. Divided we fall. The opposition is always on a tug-of-war basis against the government. It is obviously seen as a mark of lack of cooperation and refusal of same.
The PM extended an olive branch. Did Linton congratulate the PM? I challenge the consistently negative people who state that he did not mean it and that he is not genuine. Their negativity exceeds their positivity.
A country cannot be operated peacefully with the other side always projecting antagonism.
Life is not a one-way street. Cooperation is absolutely necessary on both sides. This is the manner in which the country should be operated.
