Parliament to tackle number of issues tomorrow

An act to make new provisions with respect to the registration, supervision, governance, operation and management of Cooperative Societies including credit unions are among bills to be presented in parliament when the First Session of the Eight Parliament gets underway tomorrow.

Meantime an act to regulate the use and distribution of firearms and ammunition is also expected to be tabled before parliament for approval.

The bill seeks, through the imposition of significantly increased penalties, to reflect and take account of the widespread and grave concerns of the citizens regarding the unacceptable increase in firearm related offenses in Dominica.

According to the bill, the penalties are increased with the expectation that this new sentencing regime will be expeditiously adopted and reflected in the sentences imposed by the courts.

An act to establish the legal principles applicable to electronic transactions to facilitate electronic transactions and for related matters will also be placed before the house.

Parliament is expected to convene at 10 a.m.

It is unclear whether the Opposition United Workers Party will attend.

Disarming the citizenry has never served to protect them When will they get it through their heads that the criminals will always get weapons by some means and the only way to discourage it is to have citizenry trained in firearms protection. The police can’t be everywhere.

The real reason is that the U.N wants all of the common people disarmed to that it will make it easier to handle them when they can’t fight back. They are promoting the gun laws worldwide. Wake up, they are not doing it for the benefit of the people of the world.

The Honorable memebers of the opposition should realize that:
1 having Won their seats against all odds (despite the massive irregularities)
    And
    2. having Won the bi elections

    Shouts to the fact that:
the opposition members Are the only legal Members sitting in parliament.

As such they should scrutinize and delay the illegal persons attempts to pass and change laws

    Honorable Hector John,
This is a perfectly accurate statement by saying “Charles Savarin is using Brian Allene to ask Skerrit to resign because he violated the Constitution of Dominica when he got nominated to represent the people of Ville Case in 2009 and he knew that he was carrying dual citizenship,”
He has hit the nail on the head.
Congratulations once again for winning the “buy election”
Please go to parliament and demand that the sergeant of arms do his Job by arresting and removing Skerrit and St jean from the house.
    Also the removal of “COP”.

DNO: Speak to Mr. Charles Williams (previous Carib Chief) about the broken treaties by the French.

    Note Skerrit’s letter:
    1. states: “it is with Deep regret” that he asks to give up his French citizenship.
    2. Also that he thanks the French for their usual (personal) cooperation.
    3. Reason for giving up citizenship is to allow him to continue in his post.

Being a citizen of a socialist (France) or communist state (cuba, China…) where every citizen is an agent of the state and must adhere to their responsibilities (Civil code) this is Not the same as being a citizen of a commonwealth state where we are private individuals.
Skerrit and St Jean along with the numerous citizens of china and Cuba working in Dominica face much stiffer penalties under the laws of their countries such as loss citizenship/penalties for treason(execution in the case of China, Cuba and maybe Venezuela).
Disregarding the opposition when appointing the COP is a direct attack on National security especially by an illegal “pm”.
Care must be taken not to refer to/ legitimize them as PM or Minister.
This has been nothing short of a coup de ta and you need to.
The opposition needs to Bring up/ invoke the Treason act. Invoke the treason act.

We welcome the news of the Act to make new provisions with respect to the registration, supervision, governance, operations and management of Co-operative Societies. The Fisher-folk of the Parish of Saint John have come together as a Study Group to establish what promises to be a very strong Fisher-folk Co-operative and hope that this new Act to govern the affairs of Co-operative Societies will make provisions for empowering Co-operatives to create more opportunities for Fisher-folks, their families and the communitities where they exist. We expect that provisions will be made for the economic empowerment, social development, capacity building, particularly in the area of training and development, and instituional strengthening, including good and accountable governance and transparency within the Co-operative movement in Dominica. We trust that the Act will create the enabling environment to move not just Fisher-folk Co-operatives but all Co-operatives to the next level…

Have you thought this Act will in fact deprive the members of those Societes to have control of their funds in the future. The availability for funding Projects is always there except the repayment by certain members have in many cases failed or defaulted Maybe the reasons for these necessary amalgamations of Credit Unions in Dominica

MOST IMPORTANTLY .WILL THE SOCIETIES/VOLUNTARY MEMBERS LOSE CONTROL IN ADMINISTERING THEIR FUNDS IN THE FUTURE?

They can stay out if they wish. The business of the House runs more smoothly. They have been asking for, seeing the development of and complaiing about a creeping dictatorship. By their very actions they are facilitating the same. So why go and complain. It will be too late by the time they decide to take action – meaning, participatinmg in the House and presenting the VIABLE alternative with identified sources of funding fro our development agenda. They should realize by now that staying out and complaining about every action of the government (such as the Yes We Care and School Bus Programs) has not changed anything in their favor.

The UWP have its supporters like every political party – Mr. skerrit’s party inclusive. Even if they refer to Mr. Skerrit’s supporters as people without any moral or ehtical values who support corruption and personal gifts. My big beef with the UWP is that they are yet to realize that Mr. Skerrit did not go to parliamenmt and become Prime Minister on the votes of stones and trees. It is Dominican PEOPLE, THE VAST MAJORITY who voted for him. and the vast majority is still voting for him by their total rejection of the antics of the UWP and their Cabal on “Q”.

The only difference in or out is the leingth of the sessions. I wonder when will Edison, Norris and Ron give Spaggs the benefit of leading them in the House? Its a hambug for Eddy to realize that his banana days are no more.

I do hope that my friend Ron Isidore and his fellow party men will sit in the house tomorrow. I believe it is dishonesty to be cashing a senator’s pay and not attending the house. This echo is going out to three parl reps and senators. We are all adults why don t we sit and debate the bills that are put forward to the house. I would like to be counted in history one day that I made my contribution to the house, be it through opposition or otherwise, but not by cashing in money without I work.
