PM admits DLP has lost supporters

Skerrit

Leader of the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) and Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said with much regret the DLP has lost some of its key supporters over the years.

He told an awards ceremony on Saturday night at the Cabrits National Park that some of the DLP “brothers” have found themselves entrapped in the language, innuendo and lies of those who do not wish his leadership well.

The Prime Minister said though very few in number, they could not embrace the shift in political strategy that was critical to turning around the fortunes of the DLP, allowing it to grow, to become more inclusive, while continuing to empower the hard working men, women and children who make up the bulk of the country’s citizen.

“Instead they proposed a strategy of moving towards with their eyes fixed on the past, rather than learning from it and moving ahead without violating the social democratic principles of the party. It seems a law of nature that there comes a time when even the best of friends must part; I wish them well, but the door is always open to their return,” he said.

Meantime special awards were bestowed upon Senior Counsel Anthony Astaphan and Charles Savarin, who Skerrit said are shining examples of Labour warriors ought to be.

“They along with other members of the defense and attack teams, are doing a marvelous job of keeping the enemies of Labour at bay. We ask for God’s blessings on them and for Charlo’s speedy recover,” he said.

Peter turned his back on Christ when he needed him the most.So Skeritt should learn something from that. My people are with you only when they can suck your blood like a leach but after they’ve drained the last drop they’ll move on to someone else.

NEVER in the history of Dominican politics has any politician, muchless a leader, been involved in so many controversial acts. Dominicans are losing count of the numerous allegations and hard facts surrounding the Bad governance, disrespect for the Constitution and outright nepotism and Narcissist behaviour, lies and misinformation, that are being attributed to those in power.

In many instances, they just cannot refute the hard facts on several of the issues investigated and made public. Institutions which once served Dominica fairly well are totally influenced by political operatives. Those institutions have lost their autonomy or independence.

The most freightening thing is the reluctance to implement Electoral Reforms. The Electoral Commission requested reforms to the electoral process, to ensure FREE and FAIR elections and that request for funds is being denied. So no cleaning of the unclean voters’ list and no provision of voter ID cards. Dominicans must express concerns continually, because elections will never be free and fair without those reforms. Believe me.

The world is protesting for better democratic way of life, for freedom of speech, freedom of the press, for Free and fair elections, for justice, for Freedom of Assembly and Association, for more say in their own development and other basic human rights as enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

People all over are denouncing corruption of all kinds, especially by politicians and others of high repute. Dominicans should also speak out fearlessly and consistently against corruption and Bad governance that are causing their standards of living to worsen.

Well time does tell, and truth does out. PM Charles Severin a stalwart labourite, sa moi ca tand. Look we all know Charlo is a career politician and he is in it for what he gets. Well he serve you well, both hi and Tony but please don’t insult our intelligence.
we supported you, because we supported the labour party, but we were not fooled.
Well you have opened the eyes of the Dominican people, we now know that this is not the labour party we want. Charles Severind is no labourite.Neither are you Mr. Roosevelt Skerrit.

  6. My Take
    October 12, 2011

I am one of the DLP supporters whom the PM spoke to, “Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said with much regret the DLP has lost some of its key supporters over the years”. I imagine that we are FEW as PM indicated but please sir DO NOT say that we fell prey to the “language, lies, innuendos etc… of the opposition. I am no supporter of the UWP and doubt that I shall ever be as I see them as a group of men “groping in the dark’.

I have however seen through the deception, mockery and lies of the ruling party and I felt that I could NO longer associate with this corrupt regime with all the nepotism, disrespect for the masses, , the arrogance and neglect of potential growth sector of the economy.

I see funds put in place for small business squandered, dishing out of contracts to “inner circle” members and just could not stand by and support this kind of decadence in my party. The bible warns, “COME OUT FROM AMONGST THEM, BE HE SEPERATE” so for me the righteous thing to have been done was to distance myself from these scoundrels. The party is NOT unified, a few seating ministers have expressed views of decent claiming that “Skerrit treating them like children and how they not sure they’ll continue in this thing”, others were planning to “straighten him up” but felt it was too close to elections and postponed the “upheaval”. I am not sure what their view point is right now given the 18-3 situation! Clearly ALL is not well with the DLP but in my view we DO NOT have a viable alternative.

What we are experiencing now with this leadership is certainly NOT what we campaigned and voted for in the past successive elections. We have a government who fooled us into believing that ALL SHALL EAT but we’ve quickly come to realize that it is actually “SOME SHALL EAT ALL”……we have clearly lost our trajectory as a party and has turned into a group of fanatics who have departed from the vision and principles of LABOUR in total surrender and devotion to ONE MAN who does not seem to have the aptitude nor decorum for leadership in these trying times.

The PM makes too many frivolous statements and seems too proud to offer any kind of apology or any attempt of retraction. Now we have grown men (his seniors) who aid and abet him in his folly. I seat here waiting for “THE DAY” where I shall HOLD all of these zealots responsible when the wheel of fortune turns on my friend Roosevelt Skerrit. This is a man I love, one I KNOW means well and has a good heart. I also happen to know that he’s human and prone to make mistakes but these mistakes must be genuine and not CALCULATED ERRORS and he MUST be humble enough to own-up when he errs. We are hurting, I am personally hurting to see the road this man has sought to tread and I am alarmed at the DREAD that waits along the path that he has chosen.

I may still vote labor in the future but not for this Skerrit run DLP administration.
I have been in the party for too long for me to see newbees like Tony and Saverin getting gifts of appreciation.
Skeritt, “you have lost your usefulness as leader of the party , it is now time to go.”

I cannot understand how a country that has a leader who should be of the future, forward thinking does not understand why the popularity rate has decreased. When we have to leave our beloved country to seek employment elsewhere and submit to the constant humiliation heaped upon us just to earn a dollar, we cannot help but to pass on our humiliation to you. You a young person suppose to have ideas to take us into the future and it seems that all you are interested in is being popular and making yourself more arrogant.

I was once a blind Labourite like some of them out there, but my love for country, the religious tenets i was brought up in like thou shall not lie, and steel, the abject poverty in certain quarters of the country, the looking for their pocket syndrome, the demolishment of all the country’s institution, umemployment, the destruction of the agricultural sector, bobol, the massive politicization of the police force has caused me to change course. October 11, 2011

Skerrit, you have not lost a few, you have lost alot, and you know it.

Now I want to see that reflected in the next election. Because, typically this is normal, for a party in power to loose supporters, because people are now judging based on what they said they would do, and what they are infact doing. The science of politics supports this, however, I have seen in your last 15 years of reign that you have gone against the science of politics, you have actually gained support according to the election results of 2009. This means that something did not go as the science of politics predicted.

There were some deviation, some type of mutation….some abnormality so to speak.

Since you have admitted yourself Roosevelt, I am watching and waiting…for the next election results…

I will agree also that people like Mano has to be nothing but ashame….I never thought Mano would have gone this way…Roosie would be totally disappointed….this is what you call wolves in sheep clothing.

    All you look comedy- Charles Saverin is given an award for a shining example of a laborite. What an insult to intelligence. We all know why Charlo hung around. It is definitely not because he is a Laborite. I grew up with Charlo in Porssiee and I fought the good fight against the Labor Party together with Charlo;
As for Tony Astaphan – let another party get in power and we shall see change color at anytime. Records show that tony was a freedomite when Mamo was there , UwP ite when edo was there ( we remember the airport land deals). If another party comes in power and we don’t here him bull doging the opposition is because this time around he made so much money. Alick Lawrence is no different – he was a UWP ite when Edo was on stage . Somebody prove me wrong.
If Skerrit want to give out a genuine award to a deserving laborite maybe he should go down to Portsmouth and select the people who vote Labor regrettably so rain or shine. Maybe it’s a good idea to give WIKILEAK that award – somebody who have Skerrit all over the face, although Skerrit is not a true laborite.

I am from Possie and what is going on down there is utter b@@@@@@shit. Skerrit give houses to young, strapped women that can go find a job, simply because they were at the front of the stage at every convention. They have forgotten the older folks, the STALWARTS of the party who were there from the adam and is still there, some have given over 70, 80 add years of dedication, and who now are so desperately in need of assistance from their ruling government. They are being totally ignored and neglected. What a downright SHAME!!!! And the Skerrit coming running his mouth and telling them, Do not worry, I will never forget you all. It is interesting that Skerrit says that some labourites no longer support him because they want to keep looking at the past.

You have also forced out of the Labour Party anyone who you think smarter than you and have leadership ambitions and instead have surrounded yourself with “Yes men” : Spent forces like Ambrose and Savarin, non-entities like Kelver, the ones from Castle Bruce and the other one from Grand Fond or those who simply lack capacity like Justina.

My fellow Porssian I beg to differ. Portsmouth people cannot vote for anything else. How can we express surprise when will vote for a Zandoli dressed in red carrying a shoe- are you kidding me. By the way Mano was always a laborite. The question is – is Skerrit a real laborite?. This is the woolf in sheep clothing. Laborites have allowed Skerrit to destroy the integrity of the party. Rosie must be turning in his grave right now. I was not a fan of Rosie but if there is one thing I would die saying is that Rosie was not about self enrichment and that Rosie was about people , so much so that I criticized him for helping make a lot of people in Portsmouth to dependent upon him. Rosie genuinely wanted to see people life improve.
As for the people who followed Rosie and his principle – people like Mano and the others who are still running after Skerrit and who Skerrit has indoctrinated into the culture– I say shame on you. Today the people who have Risen with Labor are the ones who buried the Labor party in the first place – tony , Saverin, Alick who was a UWP supporter when UWP was in power so was Tony and many others.

I am not sure that we will ever in our life time see Portsmouth people vote an alternate party and that is a shame. Put Ian’s name right back on the ballot and Ian can go campaign all over the island , come back to Portsmouth the day after election and he will still be the winner by a very wide margin. If you think there is something to be ashamed off think about that as a Porssian.

ASome people can actually differentiate between reality and fiction. Talk and lies comes at a dime a dozen. The truth is in the realities on the ground – the Chinese take over, real time corruption, obvious mishandling and manipulation of justice, the vicious victimization, the dictatorial tendencies, unemployment, disenfranchisement of the farmers, trades men- these are just a few of the obvious realities that we face.

Eh Mr. PM..remember that Charles Savarin was once potto FREEDOMITE and even their party leader. He could just as well betray you and your party for his supposed greener pasture. All man to his own pocket or better yet retirement package.

Few of DLP “brothers” who could not embrace the shift in political strategy that was critical to turning around the fortunes of the DLP have found themselves entrapped in the language, innuendo and lies of those who do not wish his leadership well.

“The brothers proposed a strategy of moving towards with their eyes fixed on the past, rather than learning from it and moving ahead without violating the social democratic principles of the party.”

The Prime Minister said though very few in number, they could not embrace the shift in political strategy that was critical to turning around the fortunes of the DLP, allowing it to grow, to become more inclusive, while continuing to empower the hard working men, women and children who make up the bulk of the country’s citizen.

Skerrit, these are your opponents, not your enemies. You have to be able to discern the difference bewteen an opponent and an enemy.

Mister PM need to grow up, and realize that in his position he is going to find people who agree with him and those that disagree. Politics in any country is progressive when there are for and against, that is democracy, that is how ideas and decisions come about, it enables advancement and development, creates challenges which fosters improvements. Everyone cannot go along with everything the leadership comes up with, but it seems that’s what this government wants, and once people oppose or disagree, they are labelled as enemies. This is VERY unhealthy. Mr. PM, Dominica belongs to all of us, we have a moral responsibility to safeguard its well-being, and you were elected to lead Dominica and its people to betterment, not to lead us into the hands of all kinds of other countries, that will change our culture, our heritage, all what our forefathers worked so hard for. Dominicans are a unique people, We are proud of our selves, our achievements, and even if we don’t have much, we value each other, our unity, our resilience, our work ethics and principles. Right now Dominicans are divided and politics is eroding all these values that were instilled in us by our ancestors. What is going to happen to our children, what values will they grow up with, when our unique ways of life are being crushed with all that mess that’s going on in our beautiful country. Mr. PM, put country first and pass this message on to the rest of your cabinet. Do the right thing, in the sight of God, for the sake of Dominica and its people.

Actually some are real enemies…have you not heard their rhetoric?

as far as i’m concerned anyone who wishes me physical harm has gone past opponent into enemy territory…and yes some on the other side do indeed have that much hatred and contempt for the PM
