Leader of the Dominica Labour Party (DLP), prime minister Roosevelt Skerrit, has said that his party will fulfill all promises made in its general election manifesto because the funds have been secured.

“Whatever you have read and seen outlined in our manifesto will be undertaken and be achieved because we have secured the funding for it,” he said at a rally in Bath Estate on Sunday night. “As prime minister and minister of finance I know where every dollar is coming from to implement our manifesto plan of action.”

Skerrit said he wants a “clean sweep” in Roseau.

“In Roseau this evening we are presenting to you four dynamic candidates in the persons of Ambrose George, Alvin Bernard, Dr. John Collin McIntyre and Julius Timothy,” he said. “All four men have served in the cabinet of ministers for the last five years and I have a role in a re-elected government for each of them. I want a clean sweep in Roseau on the night of December 8, 2014.”

He said the general election has serious implications for Dominica.

“This election, ladies and gentlemen, has serious implications for the future of Dominica.” Skerrit said. “Voters in Bath Estate and surrounding communities in Roseau South and Roseau Central I want you to remain focus on the prize.”

I don’t understand why people have to go and beg for a few dollars, what happen to the welfare system?what happen to applying for assistance if you are in need.why is one man running the country SOLO.he controls every thing, and from what I read he helps only the ones that vote for him. How can he be the pm of part of the country, everyone don’t like my president but he is the president of ALL the people, why are things so backward, teach them to fish, that’s what JESUS did to the disciples. He never gave handout, by the sweat of your brow.Dominica go back to work, find out what you can do to live your mark upon the earth, that you been there, not as beggars but as a GOD fearing people.

He might have not completed everything on the 2009 manifesto but he did enough to win him another five ( even ten ) years. Rome was not built in a day and our country is making significant progress.

    • November 19, 2014

where is the progress being made. show me one achievement that has resulted in sustainable jobs over the past 5 years. All that debt we are accumulating, what is it being used for. Agriculture in the dumps, manufacturing in the toilet. Private sector in limbo, garcon you are dumb, you have no idea about what is going on in our country. We cannot give public service workers a raise for 3 years yet still Skerrit give MP’s a 50% raise. Its ignorant people like you that facilitate DLP to keep us in bondage, handouts. What has labour done for you?

My advice to u all the UWPees,, all the questions u all are asking, it directed to the wrong person, cause at Calibishie I didn’t hear any plan from your leaders. All I heard was bashing on members of dlp . That’s how u are spending ur time since u lost the election in 2000. In Calibishie , it was a canival on the street not to tell me the plans u all have for my country. U all to dam wicked, let the DLP finish the good work.

They always come up with that manifesto hogwash to fool the people.. People a manifesto is not performance so wizen up! Don’t be fooled again for the next 5 years by a manifesto that is never fulfilled.     See how they are laughing at you all?

You don’t want to lose cause you know your business will come out…Tired fool people…

1.”Begging culture” that’s what I see our culture as. Those who go to the red clinic, Do you all want to continue going in a line for 8 hours? I sure you all would prefer an eight hour job….getting a salary at the end of the month. Are you all blind? Can’t you all see?

    2. Youths.. at the end of the NEP can you tell me where you all stand in terms of being employed? Thousands leave college every year please tell me if the public sector or private sector is going to hire them…there are no vacancies.

    3. We have so many natural resources… we are blessed with fruits and vegetables..Please tell me why there are no factories to make use of these resources to generate income. Don’t you all think that factories should have been built in order to generate income, than the multi million state house which generates no income…

    4. For three months now public works staff haven’t been paid… tell me the thousands of dollars that are being paid to the various artists that are brought down for campaign…why can’t he use this money to pay them..

I guess Dominicans like to beg as I say our culture is one of begging…..we rather beg than be independent….

I’m not in agreement with the Public work workers being unpaid for such a long period, this is unacceptable. However from my limited experience in government accounting the government cannot move funds from one project to another. For example, when the budget is done all projects are appropriated funds if one project is mismanaged and went over budget the government cannot simple transfer the funds to subsidize this project. I know this seems like the logical thing to do but unfortunately that is how government accounting works :(

What else are you promising Skerrit? To denigrate every one and any who dares to speak against you? To ensure that if the UWP wins the blood of Dominicans will be on the conscience of their supporters? To make sure you line your pockets well enough so you never have to work a day in your life again? To victimize your opponents to ensure that they cannot pay their mortgages? To parade all the senior citizens you give a dollar on GIS?

The people of Dominica have heard many promises before. Just a little political fib to win the election. No big thing, every political party does it. Remember, the employment agency. Remember cabinet was suppose to meet the press on a monthly basis. Remember, using the President’s Palace as a tourist attraction. By the way, what has happened to the coffee factory and the abattoir. I rest my case.

Too often some people blame the government for everything. It is not the government’s fault if they did not complete school and did not bear their share of responsibility.
If they are underage, tell them to be responsible. Remain in school and study so that they will graduate and obtain a good job.
If they left school without graduating, tell them to return to school. As adults, they must also contribute their fair share to Dominica.
Education is the key to success.

Someone posted 21 promises that were left unfulfilled from the 2009 DLP Manifesto in response to another related article.
    Anonymous November 14, 2014
21 unfulfilled promises from the 2009 manifesto “Taking Dominica to the next level”. “In the new term we will: (1) Complete the Rosalie / Petite Soufriere road; (2) Transform the City of Roseau into the most modern and historic city in the OECS; (3) Adopt a new Agricultural Policy Framework for which a draft has already been prepared; (4) Upgrade the Central Livestock farm at Londonderry as a model for dairy production and processing; (5) Acquire equipment for the newly constructed packing houses to assist in meeting international standards in the export of agricultural products; (6) Construct a modern, state of the art cruise ship berth and entertainment centre, capable of accommodating up to three mega ships at any one time; (7) Construct a Marina Village, Hotel and Shopping Complex in Portsmouth; (8) Pirate Points; (9) Construct the Kalinago segment of the Waitukubuli National Trail through the Territory; (10) Micro hydro plants will be installed at river sites around the island; (11) Wind turbines will be placed along the east coast and the power will be fed into communities nearby as well as into the national grid system; (12) Make significant improvements to the Marigot Hospital emergency services in keeping with the expansion and upgrading of the Melville Hall airport; (13) Complete the building project at the Dominica Grammar School; (14) Embark on a national programme of vocational and technical education to compliment the academic section of the Universal Secondary Education; (15) Construct a Government administration building, bus terminal and sewerage system for
Portsmouth; (16) Enact stiffer penalties for certain crimes e.g.
those involving the use of firearms; (17) Introduce programmes for drug addicts; (18) Amend the Magistrate Code of Procedure to make trails speedier and more effective; (19) Finalise the Diaspora Policy; (20) introduce new rules governing public procurement/contracts and to improve transparency, accountability and efficiency; (21) establish a Citizen’s Complaint’s office to deal with complaints of poor service by Government departments.” 21 reasons to get the picture!!!!!!!
I guess Roosevelt Skerrit really thinks that Dominicans are fools. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on ME!!!! Thank you Mr. Skerrit, but we are just not buying your gimmicks this time. On the 8th of December you SHALL relinquish the Office of Prime Minister and face the consequences of your misdeeds. Did I hear someone say “JAIL TIME”???

U promise regional markets for agricultural produce 14 yrs later no market. You promise us international air port 14 yrs later no airport. You promise us hospital 14 years later no hospital.

You promised to export our water not a drop of water can be exported, rather u even importing water by the containers. You promised the young people jobs instead you give them 6 months work. You promise an abattoir it like a monument. you promised feeder roads but farmers still passing in bush to get to their farms. And the list goes on and on and on…. Alas papa Bon Dieu help us

OK Skerrit, as I challenged Lennox before when he said UWP was going to win the next election, are you willing to put your job on the line of you do not achieve what is laid out in the DLP manifesto?

Surely if you are so confident in that document, you should be able to say “we will accomplish all the promises we made in the manifesto. If we fail to accomplish them, I will resign before the next election and hand over the leadership of the party to someone else”.

Put your money where your mouth is.

I am calling on your true friends like the chairperson of the Vieill Case village council and other family members to rescue you. They need to try to get you to resign now from politics and use any excuse such as, the Big Bang secret, as your reason for resigning, since Ambrose does not want to resign. and you will not go into an election with him.
