Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, has blasted those who he said are consistently saying bad things about Dominica.
He said at an AID Bank function last week that all Dominicans should instead act as ambassadors for the island.
“When we leave Dominica we must all be ambassadors of this country but there are some in our midst, whenever they are quoted anywhere out of Dominica and in Dominica, it is something bad about Dominica, something bad about our country…” he said.
He noted that there is a minority that “applaud that foolishness.”
“We have to stop it,” Skerrit said. “We cannot want, in our effort to get where we want to get, to destroy everything in its way, in our way. Who is going to rebuild Dominica when we destroy it? Our children, and what kind of Dominica we would like to bequeath to our children?”
He noted that no one wants to leave their children on the streets when they die.
“I don’t think so. So why people want to destroy Dominica and not build it up?” he queried.
What is the PM doing to bring about a change to Dominicans’ attitude towards their country? A concerted effort should be made to instill a sense of national pride. Is not too late. Start with the schools, churches and other civic organizations.
Anywhere in the world one meet a Jamaican he will never fail to impress upon you that he is a Jamaican, not so with Dominicans, we are not proud of our country. Let us start now is not too late.

I’ve never heard anyone bad mouth Dominica here in the Virgin Islands. I’ve heard not so good things about the government, but every country does that. My experience of Dominica was that the people are generally uneducated, even if they went to school. The “family” structure leaves much to be desired, as a good amount of men are not present in their children’s lives. The government is poppy show, but never really accomplishes anything except lunch and posing for pictures. When you aligned yourselves with the Chinese and Venezuelans, I cringed. Both have hideous records of human rights. You must be careful who you take money from because not all have the best interests of Dominica at heart. And last, but not least, is the mindset that the government should take care of people and give them jobs … that is a Slavery Mentality and needs to be put to rest. Dominica is a very poor country, but Dominican people do not need to carry on like there is no hope.

In 15 years I have been back 6 times because I love home and think about Dominica everyday. However I will not sit by and not let my voice be heard. In 44 years a bank boasting it’s second best profits. Do you understand inflation and the rate of inflation. Let me put it in layman’s terms. 44 years ago you could get a whole dolphin for $15 or less. Today it is over $100s . teacher salary have not budged in 20 years and in addition to inflation they have to deal with 15% VAT, and other high gas and food prices, high interest rates on loans and increased cost of homes. Thier SS savings used by government and retirement age raised. The PM expect people to shut up. There is two ways it can be done. 1) he stepping down 2) he stepping down and then investigated. I have not even mentioned the 1.6 billion in debt.
