PM Skerrit brushes aside idea of reduced cabinet

Skerrit said 90 percent of elected MPs work in his cabinet
Skerrit said 90 percent of elected MPs work in his cabinet

The idea of a smaller cabinet, as touted by the United Workers Party (UWP), is apparently not going down well with the Dominica Labour Party (DLP)’s political leader, Roosevelt Skerrit.

The matter forms part of the UWP’s manifesto which was launched in Pottersville on Wednesday night.

Presently there are 16 ministers in the Skerrit-led government but political leader of the UWP, Lennox Linton, said that number will be reduced to 10 in a UWP administration. He also said all politically created advisor positions will be scrapped.

But Skerrit told a DLP rally in Colihaut on Thursday night that such move will not benefit the country and will do away with public servants.

“They speak about abolishing ministries as if when you do that you abolish the public officers as well,” he said. “The only person displaced by the abolition of a ministry is the minister; even the permanent secretary has to be transferred, literally at least. So I really do not understand the benefit to the country, or moreso the Treasury, of reducing the number of ministries to ten when not a single member of the Cabinet will have ever served in a serious administrative position in the government service before.”

According to Skerrit, 90 percent of elected MPs serve, in one way or the other, in his cabinet.

“Because I have always made sure that as many constituencies as possible are represented in the decision making process,” he stated.

He continued, “imagine he is running twenty-one candidates but they’re saying from now that less than one third of them would be ministers. So if he is going to have ten, including himself that will leave a maximum of seven other spots.”

let put the numbers into perspective the labor party won the last election 18-3 out of the 18 candidates 16 are ministers who are the 2 who were not favored by the prime minister plus we have person like my former french teacher ambassador A as ambassador to a Spanish speaking country, Alick Lawrence and Emanuel Nanton these people were never chosen by the electorates of Dominica yet they are living in the lap of luxury and big salaries at the expense of Dominicans and the people who pay their salaries cant get a raise Dominicans ponder on this all those who are shouting labor ka twavay es ous ka twavay

Why should Skerrit want to tell other people how to run their Government? It is not a question for jobs for the boys. Can any one say what benefits has the country derived from all these ministers and advisers; except paying a salary to do nothing. What happen the other Governments and people of the Caribbean so foolish that only smart skerrit can see the benefit of an inflated cabinet and dozens of advisers?; and the question is who paying for all that rubbish we the tax payers it’s our VAT monies people wake up and smell the coffee. Another lie again skerrit the only loosing their jobs are the GREEDY, LAZY and IGNORANT bunch of manipulators that you have surrounded yourself with. Enough is enough bro let had working Dominicans enjoy the benefits of their hard work with a reasonable salary increase.

That is another reason why I will never vote UWP. They think backwards and they have not creative when a man that is to be my next PM talking about getting rid of ministries and combining ministries and all that silly maths. Getting rid of advisers, my bro that not making sense. You have to divide your work its a better design, so if any ministry have to grow it will be more manageable. Go and look at how many advisors other Prime Ministers and Presidents have. why?

Because the more allies you make is the more ambassadors and advisers you going to need. The more big projects you going to have is the more advisors you going to need. Nobody is an expert on everything especially third world countries that not to familiar with some of the policies and cultures of their allies sorry for saying 3rd world cuz i hate that label. Lennox not making sense you cannot know how much men you will need for a job you have never ever done in ur life. Especially when most of your team members are rookies. Lennox NEED MORE ADVISORs than RS and if he think he don’t he is a bigger fool than I thought..You just come on a job you talking about letting go advisors that have been there MUCH LONGER THAN YOU..

You want 10 people to make decisions for over 70000+, half of which are new on the job and they haven’t even gotten practice as opposition(we know how that went). UWP are of no concern to me, if you guys think Lennox is a good manager you must be mad. Clever words cannot be all we need right now, he is just to aggressive he don’t have that XFACTOR tht all good PM have. Skeritt have it, couple of them had it before Skeritt, they all had their own XFACTOR that made them PM. I not seeing Lennox own, smooth words is not an XFACTOR, however; inspiring words are. He is not an inspiring man, he looks wayyyyy over his head. #Ready #TeamRS #LabourPower #PowerLabour #WeGoingAllThaWay

SMH, garcon u sot. St Lucia has a population twice the size of ours and they only have 8 ministers so why the hell u think we need 16 ministers. Our ministers draw about $10,000 monthly plus expenses. The Supremo Skeirrt running around doing all the work anyway so what we need all these guys for?

“Did you contact an expert to assist you how to calculate it?” ( The Facts /S.. Machine).

Well you see, the reason I had to expert to assist in calculating, and got the result correct, is because I gave you the privilege of assisting me: I handed you bit of paper, by the time you saw the pen; all you could have said was: ah, ah, um, um, um dis yah to damn hard, me doh know how to it.

    Hahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahhahahahah!

If one subject one cannot fake is mathematics, you either know how to get the answer correctly, or you do not know at all. That cannot be plagiarized, so too you cannot plagiarized chemistry, nor physics either, I mean someone may copy another persons work in class, but good will that serve, if you if you have no concept of what you copied!

All of what I mentioned here: Algebra Trigonometry, Chemistry, Physic, and Calculus, Geometry; there is another level of math, I know you probable never heard about; that is the one used to get people into and out of Space. Once you leave earth, and inter into Space, you had better know how to use that form of math effectively, or you are not coming back to earth.

Madam/S.. Machine I am not a mathematician, nevertheless, I could not under any circumstance obtain an engineering degree in the science of Electronic Engineering, and anther in Electrical Engineering, that speaks for itself. And anybody who has an Associate in the Liberal Arts, it is mandatory that they math at various levels; this Wesley, done it all, only that I do not have a major in English; as such I could not graduate as an English major like a certain in Dominica who said he graduated here in the U. S, and when we check for records: non, zip, nada, zero, can be found; ( I doh call him name eh, so doh say I say).

Mr. Skerrit always seek to distort what Mr. Linton says. Mr. Linton says that the United Workers Party will reduce the size of Cabinet not the number of ministries. In stead of have of splitting up the ministries like sports and culture and Education they will be combine them. The reason why culture was remove from Ministry of Social Services because Mrs. Glory Shillingford can not speak the creole fluently. Do the math . Based on what i said based on what i said three ministries has been reduced to two. and some of the ministries would be combined so that the cabinet would be small . Tell Mr. Skerrit some using his badge of ignorance as a badge of Honour . Voters are getting wiser and more knowledgeable. They say they wining 21 seats and they have people doing surveys all over the place for them. Skerrit and his they so desperate and violence. If you winning be calm. Because they know they loosing ground in some major constituency they a chaise` Change is must not an option.

The maximum size of the Cabinet should be prescribed in the Constitution and authorize Parliament to change same by a two thirds majority of the House of Assembly. This provision is contained in some small states Constitutions.

A political party plans to reduce the large bureaucracy in this little island of 70,000 people by reducing the number of ministers and advisors that the tax payers have to pay for running the country and you mean to tell me that some people can oppose this because they are Labour? Seriously, we have lost all sense of reason in this island! Everyone, no matter what party they support should encourage this irrespective of which party wins! Are we Dominicans really that dumb? “In the true sense of the word, “Catching Hell”, those who are truly catching Hell cannot afford a computer and pay for Internet service.”(The So Called Facts).

You know a fax machine has no sense of its own, it is simply programmed to receive written messages, and dispatched written messages; some are able to scan documents, from the machine to even a PC or a smart phone which is also a computer.

As far as I an concern this lady appears as someone who does not think, you seems not to have any ability to think in simply terms never mind cognitively; it is my view that you repeat what you hear, and very few if anything you write on DNO makes sense!

Read the quote above, and try to understand what you wrote: that is hogwash okay! There are people who were financially able to build a house in Dominica, still have their house, however, they exist with no running water, flush toilet, and to a greater extent do not have electricity, in the home. That to me is living a primitive lifestyle. For your information, many people who write on DNO, do not have a computer in their homes, they go to an Internet cafe and pay a few dollars to utilize a computer. I have a cousin who operates such a cafe.

To buy a computer in Dominica, cost thousands of dollars, so too are televisions, and any other type of home appliances, and electronics home entertainment products. I’ve had the privileged of going into certain people’s home in our country, large as it appeared from the outside, on the inside there was nothing, not even a decent living room set for the occupants to sit on. In one person house the seating accommodation was two old seats removed from a mini van which they call buss, which got smashed up in an accident. I know a man from Wesley, he is the brother, of my two late brothers by father. The years prior to Skerrit that guy worked hard, and had plenty of money, he build a very large house, he had electricity in his house, in the years, prior to Roosevelt Skerrit, since Skerrit’s took over the country, the man went from wealth to become a poverty stricken man, the last time I was in Dominica, I took two of his nieces who lives in New York, whom he ad never met, so that they could get acquainted, this is a guy who once had running water in his home.

That day when we got to his house, he had a long water hose which runs from his yard to one of the village public pipe in the street through that channel water to his house where he has a series of forty gallons oil drums which he fills with water, so that he will not be without when no water is flowing from the Stand-pipe.

Madam: The Facts, that is the reality in our country, and if that is not someone catching hell, then hell does not exists, but since you are roman cathoilc, I know you must believe there is a hell, so you need to realize the conditions that people live under in Dominica, is nothing less than living in a living hell on earth. I a not suggesting that people crucify Skerrit just for the hell of it all, but no one should like anyone to an extent to a point where anything they do is accepted, when his actions are destroying the nation, and the welfare of our citizens.

I supported that man until I saw his blunder regarding the International Airport, I heard about the offer of an oil refinery which he made no efforts to even entertain the idea. I would have to be a fool to continue lending him my support: some may say I do not like him, they like to cry hate, fact is I feel no hate towards Skerrit or anyone, not even you who accused me of plagiarizing but I believe I have the right to openly say I refuse to support him, that may have made him see error of his ways, what you are doing is nothing more than making him feel good about himself, while not producing anything significant at this point of his political career!

What does Linton plan to do with the other seven ones? They can consider themselves fired. Or he does not expect them to win.
Any leader who makes such a statement by informing nationals that he will decrease the cabinet is not a smart one. Decreasing the cabinet and departments mean loss of jobs and no income to support themselves and their family.
Let me further inform you. A few months ago Ontario had a Provincial election. The opposition leader promised to decrease jobs in certain departments. Well, the end result was that he lost the election by an overwhelming number of votes. He resigned as leader.
If Dominicans are so foolish to applaud him, Linton, you are in for a rude awakening from this man.
In this day and age you do not inform constituents that you will decrease the cabinet, namely jobs. Yet you state that 5,000 people will be employed. You are a joker and full of tricks. Who in their right mind will believe you?

I am surprised that a Prime Minister who believes the Nation’s people love him so much that he already predict a complete sweep at the poles would turn to the devil, sell his soul to the devil to make him win an election.

Could it be he is not depending on the people to decide what is the right thing to do, nevertheless, he now engages into the demonic act of Haitians Voodoo, Necromancy, or as we say locally Obeah, and the words of his soothsayers?

We all remember about a week or so ago Skerrit demand that the people of Dominica should wake up on the morning of December, 8th and do nothing, do not even take a bath, before they go out to vote. I personally do not believe in obeah, although I know there are evil demons out there: there is a spiritual world, from which demons descend and occupy the body of humans. Most likely the people the demons dominate their minds are people who fail to take care body in a sanitary way.

One have to be careful with the words of Skerrit, when he tells you not to bath, that is not something to take lightly. Demons, and sprit dislike water, I will not get too deep into that, except to say water means cleansing of the body. If one goes to the poles without bathing, maybe he believes in his sorcerer’s advise that the power of the evil demon will overwhelm the people and they will all vote for him.

Now if one depends on a Haitian to work obeah for them, why not ask the Haitian how come they could not work that same obeah in Haiti to make life better for the majority of people living in poverty, to a point where people has eaten dirt in recent years to survive?

We understand that there are also Africans, imported into Dominica for the same purpose, If I had power in me as I pretend to be a god, I would work my miracles and win, I would not have to depend on obeah man and sorcerer’s.

      I (doh) interfering into peoples business eh, cause I might be wrong, ; nevertheless, try 1/3 = 0.333 X 21 = 6.930, or approximately (7) seven.

Here is a short way to calculate it: (1/3)(21) = 7 that means the cabinet should comprise fourteen (14) ministers, in any event that is still too many.

There are less people in the Obama administration running America with how many millions of people: So, I do not know why it takes twenty-one ministers to run Dominica. If there are forty thousand registered voters living on the island that would be 40,0000/21 = approximately = 1,905 people to be served by each minister, that is ridiculous!

According to the total amount of votes cast in the election the counted approximately 33, 000 people, if we dived 33,000/21 the ratio even gets smaller, and in this case, there is one minister for every 1,571 people residing on the island.

My calculation may not be correct, nevertheless, if my calculations are not completely correct, I am sure they are nearly correct,

Man is English major er, we doh know if he know how to count, Francisco maybe doh have any major, so perhaps dat is why me dumb oui!

Less than one third Mr. PM? Do the maths again. I think what the future PM is saying is that he will take ten persons and do the job of 16. Let me tell you why it is possible Mr. PM, in reality you literally ran every ministry yourself. The ministers were in place but you made every decision, you attended every conference, you were in every photo op. It will be a considerably savings to the treasury. Some of the Ps..s were appointed in the last year in order to secure tenure, and they are not even in place as yet for two years. Let me tell you why, that person is from your constituency, that person bypass other more senior and qualify persons. Our future PM will be fair, we are putting the person most qualified to positions. We are looking at career civil servants not political appointees. I am entreating my incoming PM to find a legal way to undo what ever was done for political expediency.
