Police prevent Linton from entering Parliament building

A police officer shuts the gate as Linton was told to leave the compound

The police have prevented Opposition Leader, Lennox Linton, from entering the parliament building on Tuesday morning.

According to Linton, he wanted to take some papers from his office as Leader of the Opposition which is located in the Parliament building, for a meeting with Electoral Commission consultants from the Commonwealth Secretariat who are visiting Dominica.

He was already on the compound when he was told by police officers, dressed in military clothing, to leave.

After an exchange with one of the officers, Linton exited the compound.

“That is what we are being reduced to today in Dominica,” Linton said on a Facebook live broadcast.

He stated this is one of the reasons why Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit must resign.

“You understand why Skerrit must go,” he stated. “Skerrit must absolutely go because of this nonsensical behavior in a democracy. You have people standing up in the parliament building, in the compound telling the Leader of the Opposition he has no right in the compound of the Parliament, he must leave.”

Meanwhile, a small group of protesters stood outside the Parliament and state-owned DBS Radio with signs saying “Skerrit must go.”

DNO understands that they wanted to stage a protest outside the Financial Center in Roseau but the area was blocked off by the police.

Talk about level of ignorance! Every country has a system, rules and guidance. When did you ever heard of House of Parliament use as a residential or Office. The people who suppose to know better made the fool of themselves and yet has followers. Plenty of smart people on the Island now. Who is Skerrit. He can either be addressed as PM OR MR. Skerrit. Up till now he has not shown who was touching him but to make Matt believe, he was ragging and shouting… Doh touch me! Doh touch me! Doh touch me! Knowing this man you think if anyone touched that man at that moment you think is that he would be shouting? Maybe the House of Parliament yard paved. Thank God No stones or Zip bottles.

Hello and good afternoon my people. First I would like to know why are our Officers in military uniform and guarding our Parliament . Now Mr Linton is an elected Official and the leader of the opposition party but regardless of his position any elected Official should be allowed to go to their office. The soldier should have escorted him to his office and This kind of behavior isn’t good for a Democratic society.

Come on Mrs linton Election is long gone and it was proven that you will never be pm. Why are you still campaigning like election is next week? Are you that hungry for power? Why are you causing political unrest in our country? Why would you go to parliament building with others when parliament has been adjourned ? Were you the one who put Honorable Skerrit in office for you to ask him to leave?

Skeritt and his laborites once said no one in the world know of Lennox Linton, right now they are making sure the world knows who he is. It would appear since the CBS 2.5 second interview, Linton has been become more popular then the Prime Minister as far as the world media is concerned.

This is not news on line ! This place is a gossip coloum.Everybody want to blame each other. Easiest example. You work in an office and something pop up you think the manager should know about it so you tell him. Police at the gate and a member of Parliament want access, the police will contact his superiors and they will advise him what to do. Big fuss over nothing. Mr. Lin is trying to distract the Police, like some one who wants to secure an ALIBI. Put your country before people.

Lennox tried to enter Parliament Building while a protest was planned, to be held outside the Financial Center?
Does this not appear to be suspicious? Lennox knew why he wanted to enter Parliament. He had an ulterior motive why he went there in the first place and wanted to enter the building.
Lennox should be banned from Parliament Building.
Did he ever apologize to the Speaker of the House and other members of Parliament including the Prime Minister?

The opposition just have to gladly take their blows, because they do not take time off to meet resource persons to plan their actions prior to exposing a few members in harms way;, Q95 alone cannot do it, we have an ideal opportunity where the police is on a split position why not utilize the opportunity that presents itself. time for skerro to go, but time to display maturity sensibility, and responsibility.

The type of person Linton is, his attitude in Parliament, the meetings/protests and the violence which occurred that night in February, it should be concluded that he cannot be trusted.
One should ask, what was he really up to? Who knows what he had on him? He should have been searched prior to prohibiting him from entering Parliament.
Linton has made a bad reputation for himself.

I had stated, “Let us see what next Linton will try.” This is one of it. Thank God the police was quick to prevent him from entering. Who knows what would have occurred next?
Linton had a plan and it was not a good one. If Linton was allowed in, once he got in, consider how many others would storm Parliament Building, destroy it and take over the government, giving Linton the leeway to oust the government and hold all Dominicans captive.
Dominicans would be in shock, in tears and wailing. There would be unrest in the land which would create civil disturbance. Lennox activities must be closely monitored.

I wonder ( my assumption) whether he had plans to meet with thw protestors inside his office. Whether he had plans to invite the “Skerrit must go” protester to meet with him inside the building. You mean Lennox important documentation in an office the State has full access to?

Best we make JOSHUA our new leader because Linton lacks the proper temperament . We will surely lose with Lennox.

  47. Skerrit words are still on DNO where he pretended to complain about “party politics.”

I introduce you now Roosevelt to a more appropriate word which is “partisan politics.” In any event we see partisan politics on display, when the goons enforcing your system of partisan politics when they prevented Lennox from entering his office.

Lennox is an elected member of the opposition, hence the parliament also, and the building where it is assume he has an office; if the assumption is correct, the man at least have the right to go into his office to conduct any type of business which pertains to governance of the country, or even to retrieve a document with information needed to substantiate or support a verbal conversation.

The Goons dressed like clowns without the red ornament on their noses had no right to obstruct Lennox entrance to any office assigned to him!

This conduct is pathetic and brings our TEAM Dominica into serious disrepute. I am unimpressed with your confrontational Tivoli ”WHITE SHIRTS” TRUMPLIKE style of leadership . Many of us true objective Blues are disturbed at this hostile gangster approach to politics . You have to re-strategise and think as JOSHUA to bring moderate Labour people on board.

You dont seem to be Prime Ministerial material . I believe that the young dynamic FRANCIS is best able to get us into office. He is bright and to a lesser extent more popularly loved than you LENNY. You act without thinking and your confrontational stance isnt working at all. No DLP folks are joining us and FREEDOM PARTY is insignificant . Concerned Citizens is Blue in disguised . Skerritt is the one who said too much politics in Dominica and the next day this happens.I’m not at all surprised because I see a bigger meaning to his words.Skerritt wants an African style run country where the leader does what he wants, stays in power as long as he feels like, jails his opponents or disappear them. The results are backwardness and, poverty.Look at Mugabe. We will never tolerate that in Dominica Skerritt. Then why do police have to be dressed in military uniforms,is this a hostile, militaristic situation or a law enforcement exercise.Skerritt is delusional and high on power but full of nonsense,he has been a failure for the country and a laughing matter for the rest of the world and the region. It’s time for him to go so Dominica can once again take it’s rightfully place among serious, democratic and peace loving countries.

    April 11, 2017

DNO, with all due respect, this is a bit of irresponsible reporting again. The story gave NO indication why Mr. Linton was ejected, If he had rights to be at Parliament today or any other day while it’s not in session, Are the police authorized to be on site?, Is Linton’s Parliamentary office to be utilized 24/7/365 by him or are there specific rules and regulations when it may be used and accessed? Were the police alerted of any intended action prior to Linton’s visit to Parliament today? Isn’t it convenient that protesters just all of a sudden showed up in these two locations today?
In absence of answers to these questions and many more, which a discerning public may ask and need to know, this headline and story do nothing than stir up the passions of an already polarized nation. DNO you need to be responsible because reading this i get the impression that Linton is being victimized for a reason not even you, DNO, know or have published.

Your comment just proves a point I’ve always made, that most people who support the opposition cannot have a reasonable conversation. You’re always quick to insult and denigrate when you have no defense or can’t support your argument.
Please read and understand the rules before you seek to call me a “sot”. For your information the opposition leader has no office in parliament, except a designated space/room where he and his colleagues operate from during breaks and private consultations, during an active sitting of the house. Moreover no member can access the house at any time he/she feels and must get explicit permission to do so especially during off-session periods. And that’s the LAW!

He would have been in hot water for doing so especially if those “disguised so-called patriots” were really UWP supporters, posing as what they are not, protesting and were able to enter Parliament and create havoc there.

@King Skerriit – I agree with your statements. If the Opposition leader’s office is located in the parliament building then Mr. Linton should have access anytime of the day. This is not unreasonable. This show of military force is unwarranted. When a government begins to use the security forces to stifle opposition, this is a slippery slope. Vigorous opposition within the bounds of the law is good for our country. The Opposition has a responsibility not to engage in sensationalism though. The action taken by the security forces against Mr. Linton seems to be petty, spiteful and deliberately provocative. This action would further serve to splinter an already broken and divisive populace. The political tensions need to be lowered not heightened.

Did he informed anyone that he was coming to the building for his papers in advance? If not, the guards had the right to reject him entry.

Why should he inform them in advance to enter his own office? Is Dominica a democracy or communist state?

Did you ever before heard him made mention of his office? He has never taken his rightful place. This isn’t Hollywood and Lennox is nothing

      April 11, 2017

You have no idea what exactly he wanted. Lennox had a meeting to attend. He did not desert anyone. The people of Dominica have choosen to stand up against dictatorial rule. They don’t need Lennox there for them to do that. That’s how change really happens. When THE PEOPLE stand up!!

I heard Mr. Linton say that he came from High Street when he approached the Parliament building, by himself. Whatever activity was going on in the area was outside of DBS, which is on Victoria Street. As far as I can understand, Mr. Linton WAS NOT part o whatever activity was going on outside o DBS, he was NOT in that are. We need to hear what is said and go on facts, and NOT what we want to say.
