Political parties to host campaign events

dno newsThe two main political parties on the island are hosting major events on Saturday evening as campaign for the upcoming general election heats up.

The Dominica Labour Party (DLP) will be officially launching its campaign at the Bayfront in Roseau while the United Workers Party (UWP) will be hosting a concert dubbed ““The Dominican Artists, Concert for Change.”

“Our first event for the campaign will be the official launch of the campaign on Saturday evening and at that time we will present our 21 candidates to the Dominican people,” DLP campaign manager, Vince Henderson told DNO. “The DLP is as ready as it gets ready and we have been ready, we have been preparing for this and it’s on.”

The event will also feature Beres Hammond and the Harmony House Band and Triple Kay.

It is expected to begin at 7:00 pm.

Henderson, who is Dominica’s ambassador to the United Nations, rebutted accusations by some, including the leader of the United Workers Party, that, as a public servant he continues to function as a DLP political operative while serving in that state-paid UN position.

His response is that his position as ambassador to the UN is a political one.

“On a political point I have taken my vacation leave which is contractually due to me by the state and I have taken the time off and I am here,” he told DNO. “I am expressing the right that every Dominican citizen has.”

Meanwhile, the UWP’s event will be held at the Harlem Plaza which the party says will feature “local talent with an international flavour.”

Seven-time calypso Monarch, Dice, will perform songs he selected and also slated to perform are Bouyon pioneers WCK, the Lucas band from the Valley, Q95 song contest winners, Leona, with her Baby Machine; the Wave with his, I must Speak; Daddy Miller; Anwar Cadette who will perform Free Joseph, The Bob, Mighty Acres, Soul Pouse, Nellie Elizee and special appearances from Ronald Charles, the UWP candidate for the Roseau Valley and UWP Political leader Lennox Linton.

According to the UWP the “staging of this concert by the Dominica Artists for Change, aims to highlight Dominican music, as well as it sends a strong message that musicians, singers, song writers, and other Dominican Artists want a change of government.”

The concert begins at 7:00 pm.

General election will be held in Dominica on December 8.

Beres appeared after 12am, people stood for at least four hours and listened to 21 candidates, not 21 calypsonians, ask yourself a question.

Freedom of speech is a beautiful thing, but some truths are glaring… Mr. James, kudos to you, Linton inherited an empty shell, nothing apparently to fall on but family support? Antilles gone, Julius gone, Brizee gone, H&P gone? Why.

These are the same people who want me to join them while they break the rules? Well not that under this sun I can join Labour Party. They think they can do whatever they want .

Dominicans haven’t learned from other countries demise. Corruption mixed with immoral, unethical and religious drunkenness are the other of the day.
The God of Israel is still on his throne of total authority and I know He will in his own Due time come and exact judgment on us as a people for making a mockery of Him and His righteous laws.
What we need to plead to Him for is for Him to have a bit of mercy when He choose to do His thing.
If we continue on this current track then Sodom and Gomorrah will be like a joke compared to us..
may He find a few good people still standing. ..
its a terrible thing sometimes to fall into the hands of God

The sad reality is that those labour party supporters are part of the poorest nation in de oecs. Labourites are brain washed by this so called rock stAr Skerritt. Dominicans undoubtedly should be among the saddest persons due to bad leadership n corruption. Its sad to see, Campaign manager Vince talking now.
Dominica will never prosper under this shady government. Dominicans know de alleged corruption n mal practice but they wont talk . They shielding corruption. But look at stock farm jail, their poor family members rottening in jail. Who In DOMINICA is willing to put country first and call out them crooks.

Bunch of hypocrites. How do you wilfully abandon a planned event of your party, to stand in rain and wind for another and say that you went only for the rum and party? The principled thing would be to stay home or attend your event and support your party.
With supporters like you, i would have paid off my mortgage for real.

And the labour party is continuing the trend. Dominican engineering, Dominican agriculturist Dominican hotelier’s are not good enough to do anything in their field for Dominica. On his first campaign Dominican musicians are not good enough to briny out the vote so why not berees. On the other hand I see the opposition with Dominican stars. See the symbolism see the respect. But some will still not understand.
The pm is telling these artist they are not good enough to bring out the vote. Funny. They are the ones voting. He is constantly rubbing it in y’all face. I bet millions will be spent in next 30days but in 14 years civil servants get 0 raise. This is your time to excersize your right. Show charles saveren that you don’t have to burn the town to let your voice be heard. An X for team Dominica will be a sonic boom. Get this dictator out of this place.

This conscience of mine will not allow me to put an “x” next to anyone who perpetrates or supports victimization and injustice. Vince, I know you living in America where life is a dream and you don’t know what the rest of us are going through. To add insult to injury, we the struggling people of this country have to pay you a salary and meet your bills and living expenses. So you do have a reason to keep singing my brother. But what really offends me Mr. Campaign manager / Ambassador is to hear you say presenting your 21 candidates will be the first thing on your agenda as if we do not know them already. We know all of them already and I can name them for you. The 21 candidates are a bunch of men and women that have already failed us before and a couple new ones that CANNOT stand up to Skerrit to say this is wrong sir and I disagree. How shameful and embarrassing! Anyways, like Ian Douglas we have been FOOLED already and unlike Ian, we SHALL NOT be fooled again! So give us foreign music, foreign drink, foreign water and foreign businesses and employees, we will still be sober after our drunkenness to realize that this election is one of fools verses wise and we will not be in the statistic of fools this time around.

  26. fools verses wise
    November 8, 2014

I wish tonight’s event was a time when both parties were going to present their vision for the next 5 years. I wish it was a night when both parties were going to spend time to tell us why things went so wrong with the majority of us while things went so damn well for a hand fool of others. I wish it was a night when both parties would tell us why the state of the world’s economy was the reason why most of us struggled like we were in hell while a handful became millionaires and multi millionaires during that same time. Anyways by looking at the slate of musicians carded to perform on both platforms tonight, one does not have to be smart to notice the following: UWP musicians are all local and their songs will be the cries and heartaches that most of us experienced the last 14 years; DLP’s musicians on the other hand are foreigners that will just come to collect a large check and knows NOTHING about life in Dominica. In, fact if they were asked to leave in Dominica for 3 months I bet you they would run after 3 weeks of Skerrit’s HELL. So it is indeed an election of fools verses wise and Ian Douglas, who will be on the DLP platform, knows a lot about how it feels to be FOOLED.

  27. Is so then?
    November 8, 2014

Dominica is witnessing dictatorship trends, disrespect for PWC workers, Civil Servants, the unemployed, under-employed, in fact for Dominicans on a whole.

Skerritt just handed $$$$$$ to Village Councils at each inauguration, without the councils submitting any projects to the Minister of Finance.. There is no project proposal by the Council. No costings. But Skerrittt hands cheque of $$$$$$$$$$. Is so then.

The Ag. local Govt Commissioner official lamented that only $200,000.00 was made available in 2014 to that institution for community projects that were submitted to the Local Govt. Dept.. The AG. Commissioner rightly said that at least $500,000.00 would enable more projects sent to the Local Govt this year, to be done.

Dictatorship mode to have the calypso king of all times in Dominica’s history singing old Road March songs in this Year’s WCMF. Utter Rubbish. Disgraceful. The WCMF supposed to be ours. Who in the DFC would ask, or be forced to ask any foreign artist to sing particular songs and not from his repertoire of popular songs/hits.

Will the Cabal tell Beris Hammond to sing that song, not that one? See what black Dominicans doing to their own black brothers and sisters. You all ain’t see nothing yet. are crimes in my homeland. So many give blind support to corruption. It’s mind-boggling.

Mental enslavement persists and is deepening in Dominica The cabal is taking advantage. and having a field day. Not even the TRUTH will set many people Free.

Remember Ophelia Marie’s songs was banned for three Years on DBS, not long ago? Because the husband expressed concerns over the use of Ophelia’s songs, without his/her permission to make Cadence CD gold for sale? Remember? That’s how much artists are dealt with and disrespected.

It was a deliberate attempt to prevent Dice from singing any song in the WCMF that those in power do not want to hear. They also do not want the World to hear Dice’s sweet singing abilities, advocating for justice, love, peace, good governance, for CHANGE.

Dominica, those are signs of dictatorship at work. We are fighting an entire system bent on maintaining the status quo. Are you experimenting with dictatorship? you all haven’t learnt any lessons at all, about the rule of Dictators? Time will tell.

Now is vote-catching gimmickery. Now the Cabal want the votes of the same people in the communities, whose standards of living have gone down, down, down. the life-blood of the rural villagers, agriculture in shambles, thanks to that Skerritt DLP Govt. You like it so?

    November 8, 2014

Once again, UWP Team Dominica led by Mr. Lennox Linton should be complemented for their undivided interest in the artistes on Dominica. The UWP saw to it that this big weekend ,where thousands of dollars are going to be spent at their show, all the artistes to perform were born and bread in Dominica. But, as far as the DLP is concerned, the money that they will be spend should benefit foreign artistes. Can you imagine, the creole festival and creole in the park which were very successful, all stages used were the properties of Dominicans, however, the stage that will be used by the DLP during their political fete, was loaned from Antigua. More money going outside the country. I hope Dominicans are watching with interest.

For all those who are red ready… Take a moment to think of what the next 5 years of your life.
The red party will give you televisions and tablets and sewo you with Beres. So for the next 5 years you all will be able to shop at astaphans and pay with “Beres”. Pay Domlec with “Beres” , because the tv and tablet need light to work. When all the “Beres” runs out you will go the red clinic and grovel to the Plantation owner who will send you packing because he does not need you anymore until the end of the next 5 years.

When your children sit and home with nothing to do you will tell them “Remember the time when we saw/had Beres”

The last Plantation Owner said “Dominicans wear their ignorance as a badge of honor” and the new new Owner is cashing in on that fact.

So go ahead and be red red ready and enjoy Beres… because if God forbid the red party is there after Dec 8th… you all will surely be singing “Those were the days….

      November 8, 2014

You are unfair. Why attack the PM? What about Linton’s extravaganza with all these line-ups of artists? It appears to be a concert with nothing fruitful for the Dominican people. He knows some of you love to hear calypsonians, other artistes and love a fete, therefore this is all what you will receive. This is as far as it goes which is why he is staging this concert. In my estimation, it is not a campaign but an extravagant party of musicians. What is beneficial about that for you, for other nationals?
What makes you think the PM does not care about the country because he is hosting an election campaign? After all that the PM has done for the country? Prove that he does not care.
What has Linton done for the country? Is Linton not doing likewise? I would think that Linton is fooling the people with hosting such a campaign.
You are not a smart person to make such a comment. Place your criticism where it belongs. If you have nothing constructive to state, refrain from doing so. Your comment is much ado about nothing.

This weekend will be one big party weekend for most people in Dominica. The DLP and the UWP are both holding huge parties later on today and needless to say most people will be going to the DLP event and the reason is obvios (Beres Hammond and loads of goodies)

The reason I mentioned this is because people are going to start to compare and use it as a benchmark for what is to come at the polls. This would be a sad and nonsensical thing to do.

Dominicans, when the partying is over and everyone has sobered up and reality sinks in,it’s back to the daily grind and hustle I am afraid. So please take a moment to think about what you want for yourself in terms of jobs, financial independence and securing a future for the young ones.

No doubt, thee is going to be a lot of freebies given throughout November but please my people don’t flush your future and your children’s future down the toilet.

Go to the polls reliably informed, armed to the teeth with a clear conscience and knowledge as to who will best represent your interest and the interest of every Dominican alive on this planet, near and far, home and away.Let us rise above bribery, let us rise against lunacy, let’s us rise against tribalism and most of all,let us rise against the wicked who intend to enslave us whilst they live in their ivory tower.
Look in the mirror and make the right choice come election day for you will have to live with the dire consequences of your actions if you sold your vote for a tablet, laptop or coconut cheese.

Vote your conscience, cast your vote based on being well informed my people.
Let’s rise to the challenge as one people. Vote right because you genuinely care and not because you have been coerced to do so for any one party.

    God Bless my People.
    God bless Dominica. One Love.

I would like to add that the DLP chose to block off the Bayfront for days…what message is this sending to the merchants of Roseau and business owners on the Bayfront? Why this nonesense at one of the country’s ports of entry? Why is campaign materials being bought with LPO’s? Why this spending in the face of the shortages at the PMH? In the face of the port workers not paid for 4 fortnights and on and on. But they will flock to the Bayfront in red shirts, pants, caps, umbrellas, flags……shouting…..partying……how many without jobs I would ask……..but let the party go on………the level ignorance is unbelievable. Lord help us.

Men, women, children, and indifferent: All roads lead to the Harlem Plaza, tonight and Harlem Savannah tomorrow afternoon where kocal talents will be displayed. Go local. Buy local. I am Dominica are you?
It is satanic to pay so much money to bring in a popular foreign artiste just to stay in power, whilst the Marigot is weeping and justice is sleeping. Whilst the public purse is suffering and the public servants gets 0 0 0; not a dollar they can burrow. Now, the ‘happy cow'(skerrit) responsible for this is suffering from an accumulation of saturated fat, phat, and unaccountable wealth. This uncontrollable liar will go to any lengths. You are seeing the signs.

If all you were able to do it, would you still say it is satanic? Among the massive crowd that is expected on the Bay front tonight, a significant amount of them will be supporters of the UWP. You are also invited to attend.

People need to actively patrol the voting sites and guard the ballots, lest fraud will arrive.

      November 8, 2014

Whatever the PM says and do people as you will criticize as if you are being paid for it. Ask Linton where he is getting the money from to pay all those artistes? Could he not give some to the poor people of D/ca and to create jobs? See how many jobs will be created under this regime, should you make the grave mistake of electing him. We are waiting the outcome of this election.

        November 9, 2014

Meeting with world leaders? Boy, that campaign with these big posters is so obvious. Skerrit is boasting and showing off like the little boy he is, so immature but for these leaders that was just a photo opportunity. That is just to impress the gullible. Go and check Obama if he remembers Skerrit.
You think Obamam would be campaigning with a poster showing Skerrit? Chupes!
