Prevost gives ‘farewell speech’ to parliament

Prevost is not contesting the next general election

Parliamentary Representative for the Roseau Central Constituency, Norris Prevost, of the United Workers Party (UWP), in what was described as his official farewell speech in Parliament on Thursday, said he is leaving with much regret.

He pointed to the failure of government to address some issues in Roseau and said the UWP is committed to reducing the price of electricity in Dominica.

Prevost, who won that seat by only three votes in the last general election, is passing the mantle to his colleague, Joseph Isaac.

In his address to parliament on Thursday, he expressed disappointment in the government’s for failure to construct the Windsor Park Community Field which he said was part of the stadium project.

“Up to this moment the Windsor Park Community Field which was part of the stadium project has not been done,” he said. “It has resulted in a lot of young people’s lives going astray because as you know sports is one of the most important developmental and formation avenues for young people and this is accepted worldwide. Here in Roseau, unfortunately, they have been dealt a very rough deal by the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) government over the last 15 years.”

He assured the people of Roseau that his replacement will work towards ensuring the construction of that field.

“I want to assure the people of Roseau that although I am not going to be in parliament, Joseph Isaac will be working to ensure that this field is constructed,” Prevost stated. “The UWP has committed themselves to it and I will be there to ensure that the field is developed for the full development of the young people of Roseau.”

He noted further that he will continue to work with the people of Roseau, through the Roseau Improvement Committee.

Prevost told Parliament that a UWP government will work towards reducing the price of electricity in Dominica.

“The United Workers Party, when it comes into office at the upcoming general election, will take concrete steps to reduce the price of electricity to the people,” he stated. “One of those steps will be to cut down on the profits DOMLEC is making.”

Furthermore, Prevost said, the party will encourage investments in other forms of green energy such as hydro-electricity.

“There is the Layou River, Machoucrie River, Picard River on the west coast … all three have the potential to generate electricity and we have the technology and the experience in hydro-electricity production,” he stated.

After they sold it? I think he was knocking his own party talking about cheaper electricity. We had that before they sold it.

They broke the egg and expect someone else to glue the shell back together.

If it were not sold there would be no need to buy it back. But don’t worry the Labour Party has that covered.

Really, it’s true that uwp sold Domlec but over the past 14 to 15 years Domlec has been sold over and over. This rotten government had a chance to buy it back , but what did they do? They blew our social security money in this bad investment and all of us are suffering because of this.

      September 21, 2014

domlec was sold and with a plan but this lazy labour government didn’t hold domlec to its agreed committment..they instead drew up new plans letting domlec out of the one signed with the uwp.. domlec has been sold at least twice..if this incompetent government was really interested they could have purhcased it back since the like to say is because workers sold it light bill that high… do you know uwp sold domlec for 25 million dollars and cdc only sold it for some 11 million yet this labour party didn’t but it back but like to use that nonesense workers sold it

Wow! it seems that grace works wonders at the ballot box, since he won by a whooping 3 votes compared to a measly 700 plus for Eddo.

“Prevost told Parliament that a UWP government will work towards reducing the price of electricity in Dominica.

Are you for real? Mr. Prevost – Who sold the electricity company?

    • hmmmm
      September 19, 2014

which government had a chance to buy it back

      • in your face
        September 19, 2014

why was it sold in the first place?

      • Chow Mien
        September 19, 2014

UWP sold Domlec shares for 22 million then CDC resold it for only 11 million. This is chump change, yet Skerrit government refused to buy it back so that they could raise the taxes on Domlec. That way the price of electricity rose and Skeritt and gang gets to blame UWP

      • Oh well!
        September 19, 2014

@hmmmmmmm…. looks like it was you and I who sold it.

    • For Real
      September 19, 2014

And who did not buy back the company when they had the opportunity to do so on two occasions?

    • zag
      September 19, 2014

Who allowed it to be listed on the ECSE when they should have bought it back? Allowing the ECSE listing was worse than selling it.

      September 19, 2014

Domlec is a monopoly and needs government permision before it raises the electricity. So its your present government you have to blame.

    • ...
      September 19, 2014

After 14 years you blaming someone it means you have done NOTHING durign that time. Shame on DLP government for even utt
