Public forum on governance tonight at Harlem Plaza

Martin

Public opinion regarding Government and the manner in which it handles the affairs of Dominica will take center stage tonight at the Harlem Plaza, as Citizens Forum for Good Governance (CFGG) executes its 4th public discussion designed to address the views and concerns of the people.

“This one is essentially to hear from the people,” said Atherton Martin, member of the CFGG.

The forum, which kicks off at 6 p.m. will provide the public a time line of approximately one-and-a-half hours to voice their concerns, after which government officials expected to be present will respond.

CFGG member and investigative journalist Lennox Linton will compile a synopsized presentation of the concerns, and seek further ideas and recommendations from the people on the way forward on addressing these issues.

“The entire event will be publically driven,” Martin added in an interview with this publication.

According to him, the public will have the opportunity to raise any concern they wish, including yesterday’s court decision to proceed with the hearing of the alleged dual nationality holding of Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit and MP Peter St. Jean.

Martin suggested that the outcome of yesterday’s court proceedings was not anticipated, therefore organizers of tonight’s event did not prepare on how to deal with the public.

He assured that the persons who attend the forum will not be bombarded with boring presentations.

@Cotton: This is the same thing i’m saying, you can know the difference between a DLP Supporter from A UWP Supporter. They respond with a vengeance, these people are full of hate and careless of Dominica. They want to create a war on my island for what? Against a Prime Minister and a party who is working hard for all of us.

Cotton, i’m showing you that i’m different from you, because of the people i affiliate myself with, I still regard you as an intelligent and wonderful person and hope that you will humble yourself and give good ideas to the development of the country.

    STOP THE HATING.

I think that the move to greater advocacy and incorporating the views of Dominicans in development issues is long over-due. All across the Region – and the world – integrated management structures are supported for getting the people who make or break laws/policies work – that is to say the little people like you and me.

Put aside the political thing and tackle the real issues because at the end of the day people still need jobs, education and food; poverty and crime are increasing irrespective of who we vote for. Realize that! The thing to tackle are the core development issues that remain unanswered and drowned in all this political rubbish. Let’s talk about a development agenda for the country instead of court decision. Is not the PM and the ministers that will make our country better : is us. Realize that.

@matrix..I applaud your comment to the highest order..The thing is gullibility is running rampant among Dominicans, and this include many of our youths. There are those who are continuing to be used as conduits by this incompetent clown (PM) called Skerrit, since he is keeping them poor,in an effort to maintain the status quo. They see no further than their nose, they don’t read, analyse, and are failing to use their mental faculties..If Skerrit was above board would he have to pay the treasury in excess of $50 000? Would he have to pay the treasury several hundreds of thousands of dollars re bin bobol? In any other country he would be out of office…In Dominica we have brazen fools supporting the man (the PM) to destroy our country through dishonesty…Shame on them..There are a myriad of other subterranean allegations hanging over his head, and he can’t defend any one..I APPLAUD ATHIE AND CO…D0MINICA IS NOT AT THE BEHEST OF ONE MAN…

@Ryon: I never cease to be amazed at the height of political savagery and bigotry that cuts across the warp and woof of our country. securely entrenched in our culture is the ugly and disgracefully pathetic overtones of gullibility that permeates the media. we have sworn to accept everything without proper analysis and discourse as if we were living in a fool’s paradise. had it been the UWP in political office, this litany of allegations not only would have taken them out of office but has actually taken them out!!! The political evils that have been criss-crossing the country are not caught because we have inadvertently lowered our political antennas. In short truth and righteousness can never win a case in court in Dominica because those who know better encourage the operation of sadistic system to perpetuate because of political expediency. We have chosen not to know the truth about our country as if playing ignorant of the fact will cause the evils to go away. If you have a toothache, pretending that it’s not there doesn’t make it go away. Therefore Dominicans wake up to truth and reality. Remember RIGHTEOUS exalts a nation but SIN is a reproach to any people

It is these kind of nonsensical and foolish posts from people like you that cause people like me to waste their time and comment after it. and yes are wasting our time because you shall remain with this matches-box brain mentality until your super hero is forced to face his judgement.

Which Regional Leaders are applauding Skerrit for how he handles the country’s affairs? Name one and give some specifics, where and when was that statement made?

What is the current figure of our national debt?

Are you aware that that debt which was approximately 400 Million dollars, an increase of about 200 Million from the DFP, have now exceeded 1 BILLION dollars after 10 years of laybah- the freeness government?

Are the people on the ground not operating by an overdraft?

And to top it off, you want the court to rule against the law because thousands are praying for the breach of the law to be upheld?

Are you mad? Or Crazy? Drunk? High? Halucinating?

    Seriously….

@Ryon: It is ridiculous to try to imagine what a person might look like. This my problem with Ryon begining with your name. All that comes to mind is someone/thing like Toni Maco. You irritate with your crap. You seem like the boomboom fly kind. ya Toni Maco the 2nd.You mention lawn mowers ya we need some greatidea to take care of the weed like Skerrit Timothy, Blackless, Ian, Neckess/breast minister etc. You plant a garden tomatoes die, pumkins die, melon die but the weeds survives.look at the two guys who change parties 3 yrs ago the health minister, de lawyer from mahaut who Blackless beat they like weed running after comfort zones where the $ are. so inretrospect your idea to buy lawn mowers cool to destroy the perrennial weed like politicians who changing party like underwear.

  16. Why Now? Why are you suddenly a patriot for the common man/woman?
    August 26, 2010

While I have no issue with the message but, Dominicans need to check the motives of the messenger. I refer to the Investigative Journalist who once worked at DCP/Colgate Palmolive. During his term of service at the mentioned companies, there was never this fight and forth-right/support from this gentleman when workers were being paid mere peanuts while the line workers toiled. There was an environment of fear especially during salary negotiation and workers were afraid to speak up and fight for higher wages. Many people may be unaware of how hard people on the production floor of DCP/Colgate work, but they deserve to be paid better. Now, not withstanding that I appreciate the job he does in bringing the message to the flock but, I just hope that he learn his lesson to be on the side of the people without a voice. We will always be there to remember when people take us as fools to seek our support when it is convenient for them, and disappear after they get into position of authority. Therefore, in closing I hope this is a moment of redemption for this gentleman, and not another game to play on the weakness of the poor and disgruntled people of Dominica.

    August 26, 2010

@cord capi: A waste of time to discuss issues of national importance? In fact, Dominicans are not discussing, and planning well enough and putting those good ideas discussed into positive action, that is why the country is GOING DOWN, GOING DOWN SLOWLY. Spider, the calypsonian, warned us in song. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights declares that human beings have the right to Freedom of Information, the right to associate, the right to seek, and receive information apart from all the other rights. So you and your ilk have a problem when Dominicans organize a forum where people come together to receive and share vital information? But you all have no problem with the Chinese who are taking over small business and setting up shop all over town? You all have no problem when those in public office acquire huge wealth in quick, quick time while in public office while people like you catch hell to make ends meet? What are you afraid of? Open up your ears, listen and learn. You are never too old to learn.

A@lisad: How do you measure success of a leader? By the riches he has obtained through all sorts of controversial means or by the genuine sweat of his brow? you look up to somebody who does those things while in public office? what about the famous BIN BOBOL and land deals and ownership of VILLAS in Savanne Paille and …………..the list goes on and on and on. do you know the massive debt Dominica is now in , in the BILLION. You understand what is a billion dollars in debt and what do we have to show for all that debt? Production, manufacturing, tourism down, while unemployment, crime, violence up, up, up. So is that you looking up to?

Everything in Dominica right now is a politics and this is what that is dividing the country. There is going to be one set of trouble there tonight. Athis is going to cause further division here.
I t seems that there are people out there who just feel like they can get up and talk talk talk talk and can never contribute to the development of the island.

Where is Athi’s water company so long? I t disappeared? we need more work.
What he need to do is to form a cooperative with the people to fund a project of beautification of Roseau or buys lawn mowers or weed wackers to cut grass in some unsightly areas.

Don’t come and talk politics if you can’t lead the nation. These guys are devils in disguise taking the pride of Dominica away.

    I WILL NOT ATTEND.

@POSITIVE: I can look up to my Prime Minister. The regional leaders are applauding the Prime minister for how he handles the countries affairs especially after the UWP used four years to take it down to the level of the third poorest country in the western hemisphere.Placed us under burdensome debts that required Dominicans to make big sacrifices.Today we are the only eastern caribbean country that is not operating by an overdraft. If that is not good governance, what is ??Only the disgruntled old men who are jealous of the success of the youug leader will pretend that they do not see things that way. As far as I am concerned, the dominican Eddison james could not do it so let our French Dominican Prime minister do his work. The law is the law, but thousands are praying that the court will decide in the benefit of the country and leave Mr. Skerrit alone. If two or three agree upon these things it shall happen and trust me tens of thousands are agreeing upon it. So come court day, Roosevelt Skerrit will remain the Prime minister of Dominica and the matter will be put to rest once and for all.

This is a good decision to have the public forum so that Dominicans can voice their concerns about all these allegations and the courts decision this evening. I want to applauld all those who are pticipating in this evening forum. I am a young lady and I have never in my lifetime seen such lawlessness and no regard for the law in this Country. The Prime Minister for example, someone who I thought you could look up to as a young man, has bring shame and dispute to the name honourable. All I know his ways will eventually caught up with him. This man lies to Dominicans straight in there face and I do not know if we are blind or just plane wicked. In this country right now wrong is on the board as right. Fly your skite Skerrit, I hope when it all comes crashing down on you, people will not say is mal they make you. me say ou fe, say sa ou weh.
