Savarin lashes out at the UWP in Salisbury campaign stop

Former Leader of the Dominica Freedom Party-now member of the incumbent Dominica Labour Party-Charles Savarin, has told residents of Salisbury that the United Workers Party has no regard for the constitution of Dominica.

Savarin was speaking on a political platform to officially launch Bentley Royer at the DLP candidate in the July 09, 2010 by elections in that constituency.

He said the UWP has in its ranks, people who are saying that the constitution of Dominica is not worth the paper it is written on.

“If Edison James and Ron Green and the leaders of the UWP took time out to read the constitution of Dominica, we would not be in a by-election today,” he said.

According to Savarin, the UWP members cannot read, interpret and understand the constitution of Dominica.

“Under the constitution we had a general election in December. We voted in all 21 constituencies. The people of Dominica elected 18 members of parliament on the DLP ticket. They elected 3 members on the UWP ticket. The UWP decided that this was not enough for them. They’re greedy. They feel they can challenge the people and not the DLP. They threw away the constitution…the contract they made with you the people to represent you in parliament and they decided they will boycott the parliament,” he said.

Savarin told the people that the UWP intentionally decided that they would not attend the parliament because the election was fraudulent.

“Before the elections they wanted observers and we gave them that. In their report they said that the election was free and fair. Now the UWP begin to denounce the observors because they are not satisfied,” he said.

Savarin has further advised the people that they should not vote for the UWP’s candidate Hector John.

He said a vote for the DLP will ensure proper representation in parliament.

    Greetings toronto/ diaspora,

It is really sad when we allow ourselves to be taken for rides without making the time to think critically or to educate our selves on the issues that are being thrown at us from the politicians. Some of us are so color blind we fail ourwselves when we simply sing a song that is played by the UWP and make comments as if we tested the information and found it to be factual. This is what you have done and I need you to understand the following FACTS: The Constitution of Dominica MUST first be ammended to make it illegal for their to exist any other Political Party in Dominica. To ammenhdn the Constaitution there MUST be a National Referandum where citizens will vote for the change. It short. even if the DLP wins all 21 seats the party CANNOT transform Dominica into a One Party State ok. I have a term that best describes Hector John and his Political errors, HIGGLEDY-PIGGLEDY. Hector John is contesting a seat with the very situations that he cliamed are the reasons for the UWP Bpycott of ther Parliament in the first place. If the General Elections was fradulent in December 2009 then the Bye Elections on July 9 is no different. because the same situations exist. The UWP’s so called fight for democracy lacks consistency and truth. Hector John is being hailoed as one who has accomplishwed so much in Salisbury but NO ONE has taken the liberty to list what these accomplishments are to date. I oive in Salisbury and I would love to know them please. On a Hot SeatShow on Q 95 Hector John was asked by Mart Peltier why he was contesting the Bye Elections and he could not answer. Finally on Hector John, at his UWP meeting in Salisbury on Wednesday past, the Chairman of the meeting asked the UWP supporters to hold their Rotten Eggs and what have you for when Charels Savarin comes to Salisbury. It is claimed that Savarin called Hector Johns decision to stay oput of Parliament, foolish. I support Savarin because only an ignoramus would do what John did and for the reasons that he said he was doping it. Now to propagate Political Violence is unacceptable and that is what Hector John is part of. My final comment is on the debate of the vacating of seats in Parliament. The Stading OPrders states that if you miss three seatings of the same session without leave of the Speaker of the House you shall vacate your seat. w

Greetings everyone, I just felt that I needed to make my contribution to this debate, but I will not be part of the insults ok guys, as this is not the way to educate another. I would also like you guys to excuse any gramatical or typo erros, please. To toronto/ diaspora; The Constitution of Dominica makes it legal for anyone to be appointed a Senhator and be appointed as a Minister of Government, I hope that brings about an endd of yourattack on Charles Savarin. This is Policitics my friend. I hear the UWP talk alot about a One Party State, have we asked these individuals to explain what a One Party State is, before we get onboard their deceptive train? The Constaitituion of Dominica would have to be ammended first to allow NO OTHER POLITICAL PARTY TO EXIST. There would also need to be a National Referandum where the citizens would vote for this to happen. Even if the DLP

Remain in your DIASPORA and leave our government do what they have to do to see DOMINICA progress. No one put Spraggs out. He chose to stay out of Parliament. So get your facts straight before repeating what people say about “ONE PARTY STATE”. You think we Dominicans are fool???

    to toronto diaspora

when they were elected and refuse to take there seats ,does'nt that pave the way for a one party state.the govt did not ask them to stay out of parliment .prevost went to the house because he could not take any chance with his seat so he went to the house.but mr james and hector did not care aboutthe tax payers purse.

I am not surprised to read Savarin's comments after all he never run for election and now he is a minister only in D'ica that could happen, apart from that I guess Savarin forgot that it was his BOSS (PM) who said not even the CONSTITUTION can prevent him from running and he did so who doesnt have respect for the CONSTITUTION he should choose his words before he open his mouth, Savarin your party (DLP) won 18 seats and those who wasnt lucky as you got Senator positons so if you can count your party is fully covered in the house so what is your problem, Savarin you never work hard before he got the job on a plater so the PM have a right to send him out to campaign so he can earn your salary, some years back he can to Toronto, Canada and he couldnt even bring out Dominicans to hear what he had to tell us him and those of us that came including myself it was unproductive questions were put to him but his responses were all over the place one man called on him asking him to tell the people the truth it was a disaster , he should be ashamed of telling the person of Salisbury a vote for DLP and they will be represented in the house .
Sallisbury people sand tall keep your dignity and dont sell yourselves short Hector is your man because what Sanarin and his party want is to be the one party in DOMINICA the power is in your hands exercise your vote carefully and let them see you cannot and will not be bought by any one or any party.
