“They don’t seem to be willing to dialogue, period” – Brisbane

Jerry Brisbane (right)

Proprietor of Brizee’s Mart Jerry Brisbane has said he does not believe government will have any dialogue with him on the state house issue despite his efforts.

Brisbane said at a press conference yesterday that based on past experience, he had reason to believe that the matter would just be ignored with no public statement from the prime minister. He sees this “silence” as total disrespect to the citizens of Dominica.

Brisbane said that he is yet to get a response to a letter he wrote to the prime minister in January, asking for a dialogue about a petition he filed asking for the removal of Minister for National Security Charles Savarin.

“They don’t seem to be willing to dialogue, period,” he said at press conference yesterday.

He continued, “Because even with the petition I wrote to the prime minister in January because I felt when the petition was lodged with the government, with the prime minister and with the president, it was the Christmas season and it was not to me, in my mind, a good time to pursue the matter aggressively, so I allowed the citizens for the country to go through the period of Christmas…. And in January I wrote to the prime minister… inviting the prime minister to meet with us so we can sit … further discuss on this matter. I have had absolutely no response from the prime minister on that matter. So again I do not expect there to be any dialogue between myself and the prime minister or members of government,” he stated.

He further accused the prime minister of refusing to comment on incriminating issues such as the dual citizenship matter.

“Total disrespect and disregard to the citizens and I say citizens because the point is this that the petitions if we were to deal with that, was 4,000 petitioners there about and that represents a significant  portion, a percentage of the voting population in the country which from the information we obtained is 40,000-something people. Therefore it’s about 10 percent of the voting population which is significant.  And the prime minister has not seen it fit to make a public statement yay or nay, one way or the other on that matter. And I do not expect that he will do that even in this case here,” he said.

He added, “Because when you look at even matters which are very incriminating … regarding the dual citizenship matter up till now, even a week plus since some letters have surfaced he has made absolutely no statement on that and … so I do not expect in this case that there is going to be much of dialogue and that is where I think we’ve come to a stage now in this.”

Mr. Brisbane, there are diplomatic approaches to voice opinions or to make valuable suggestions to elected officials. You as a business man who employ people should be familiar with diplomatic processes. For instance if you had an employee who has a grievance and that employee behaved like you in disrespecting you as the boss by making outrageous accusations (including writing letters to your business associates) and trying best to tarnish your character. What will be your response to that individual after him/her having gone through such lengths and only to then seek dialogue with you? It is most likely you would terminate that employee forthwith. However when you have a personal agenda which is clearly demonstrated in the way you use to garner attention (overlooking all those with authority and the mandate given by the people) , indicating a total lack of respect for elected officials and for Dominicans who elected their leaders, you honestly deserve to not only be ignored but castigated for your actions. Mr. Brisbane this is not a simple matter of freedom of speech but rather a radical approach of political interference and the sooner you can be dealt with within the confines of the law the better for all Dominicans concerned.

    Jerry,
History has clearly demonstrated the wisdom in the old adage, “evil thrives, where good men remain silent”. For all the sensible, logical and economic arguments you have advanced, the construction of a State House at this time, when the poor people of Dominica have such dire needs, is reckless and ill-advised. This projects is like the other projects which have be undertaken with Chinese assistance- high visibility to mask the lack of vision and failed policies of the government; but the education of our young people, the health services in the country, agriculture- still the back-bone of the economy, tourism which has so much potential, the peace and good order in our country, and the empowerment of our business sector that is the engine of growth in our economy are all suffering as a consequence of the politics of the day. Silence is being bought and principled positions have all gone out the window, in exchange for political favors.
Dominicans seem to allow their patience to persuade them to see things late, but they will with the effort of good citizens like you. The Dominicans who are sucked in by the hand-outs, be careful of your “Sins of Omission/Silence”… the Catholic Church learned a painful lesson on the issue of slavery.
    Be guided
Jerry, you have our full support! Dominica cannot afford this luxury at this time. The time for the State House will come, but this is not that time.

Oh yeah…and while doing all that Build an Office for the Opposition!!!!!

Just my ideas for the so called $27 mil which China is GIVING to the Dominican govt to build a presidential palace.

We all knkow how Dominicans like freeness…so while oneset is complaining that the $27 mil should be better spent, another set is begging for offices.

Jerry! when we voted for who we wanted to lead our country, is Skerrit we voted for. You and the likes of Lennox, Matt and the three UWP blind mice can crawl back into your little holes and let the man do his job. Is that clear? We have enough of your nonesense. Dominica need to be transformed into a 21st century country, not stay the same as Columbus found it and that means spending now. It will cost ten times more to do in the future.

Brisbane you need to pay attention to your business and stop trying to make a personal matter into something political. I am sorry; the Prime Minister does not have to respond to every fool who writes him a letter, especially one who has a personal agenda.

You are another one of the high class bogus cons who resent someone who came from the country/north and is now leader of the Nation.

Take your B.S. somewhere else and stop trying to create chaos in the country.

Personally, we need to amend the constitution on the dual citizenship, less Dominica disqualifies 1/2 of the educated population from being of political service to the Nation.

Where does he get his facts? Through his own research! Has anyone vetted his research and facts? No! Has he stood for election? No! How does he know these so called facts he presents. No one knows!

Jerry I agree with you 100%. We do not need a $27M state house at the moment! It is not a priority at this time. This money could be put to use in the productive sectors such as agriculture, improving the investment climate, our hospital and education. I believe that the president must have a decent residence, but what is proposed is lavish, very lavish. We will be hanging our hearts where our hands cannot reach. This is dangerous, be afraid….very afraid..!!

what is wrong with the president living where he is? provide him with a house allowance that we can afford and that is respectable…as TRUE humble servants of the people, they should not see a problem with that……we are not a rich country…..what is wrong with us..???…why are we trying to live above our means….??? i would like to build a nice big house one day….but yes…one day…not while i cant afford it…to impress my friends who come to visit…..???
they will come to visit and wonder why i have no food or drinks to give them…..
this is so typical of us…..can’t pay our bills …crying how tings tight…..but we want the latest blackberry and we in all jam……our government is doing the same things but at the next level as they promised….
Govt cannot afford the things that have direct effects on our people, such as a sports complex / entertainment venue for Creole Fest and Carnival shows etc. .. which are revenue generating and human development projects… or something that generates employment for our people but we can afford to take a 27 million dollar LOAN that we the young people of this country will have to pay back…not Charles Saverin or Timothy…we the youth…this is madness…..

This conversation cannot remain on DNO or our living rooms or offices….we must not be afraid to take it where we have to get it heard and dealt with…..

The Prime Minister has little or no options. His agreement with the PRC commits the COD. Many of the Chinese citizens residing/working in Dominica enjoy diplomatic status/protection which is why they seem to be above the law. Technically, they are not subject to the laws which govern the common citizen.

Dominicans must demand to know the details of the MOU between Dominica and China.

Can the Judicial system be petitions to force the administration to reveal the non-security sensitive details of the MOU to the people of Dominica .

Can the administration legally withhold the contents of an agreement between the State and another state from the citizens. Intuitively this seems contrary to the practice of democracy.

Jerry, did the citizens of Dominica ask you for representation? The PM is right in not responding to your requests; you do not deserve his time. When you say you wrote “inviting the prime minister to meet with us”…. who is US? Are you now the Leader of the Opposition? In addition, with regard to your accusation that the PM is not commenting on incriminating issues, he does not have the time to refute every negative statement made by people like you. Had this been the case, all of his time would be spent responding to you and your cohorts. The people of DA elected the PM and not you! Please let the man do his job and wait until 2014 to run as a member of one of the two opposition parties or create your own party. What I am looking at here, is that Mr. Brisbane came out in the open, only after his secret letter writing was exposed. It is possible that none of us, Dominicans, would know about those letters, had the Prime Minister not mentioned it–even if he did not mention any names–on a Radio talk show.

And since then, discovering that he has a few supporters–which is not unusual–Mr Brisbane has been trying to claim power, that he might rebel against the plans of reigning government in Dominica. He still has a lot less than minority support, even if he claims 10% of the majority–his 40,000 number. How can we, who have the support of 36,000, ignore our responsibility, just to satisfy 4,000? Where is the logic!

I consider myself, as a leader of a group of men and women, in function for the purpose of my community and its environment; just to find out that there is a certain person, whose intention is to do nothing, but to disrupt my major initiatives, with the help of my group; even demanding that I remove member or members of my group. Is that not the intention of Mr. Brisbane? Why would he not expect to be ignored?

Mr. Brisbane should try to put himself in the place of the Prime Minister’s, and his men/women of government. Only then would he realize that his intentions are extremely difficult to recognize, much to accept them. Sorry!

Jerry should formalize an organisation (with a name and all)
Then have his public meetings to gage his support and then make representation on his followers behalf. Distance himself from convicted liars like eddison James and his UWP.

Many believe that Skeritt is corrupt liar.
Many believe that he does have interests in the villas.
And I believe that the $27,000000 air marked for the presidents palace would be better off spent in the construction of 675 low income houses for Dominican families thus providing employment for hundreds if not thousands of dominicans.

Then jerry will have to be taken seriously by the Government!

Dominica is like a modern day slave plantation owned by the China and Venezuela. It is managed

    the Cabinet Ministers.
The President, the Church, DBS, Kairi.the unions,DAIC, The Bar Association are the house slaves
who enjoy the crumbs from master Skerrit in the form of government contracts, duty free concession, board appointments, jobs and kickbacks.
The rest of the population are the oppressed FIELD SLAVES who are kept in bondage through
    intimidation and fear.
On the periphery are the modern day Maroons like Brisbane, Lennox,Wiltshire, Coipel,Angelo…..

The dual citizenship case is before the court. Any competent lawyer would advise the PM to refrain from making public comments on an ongoing court case.

It’s the mouthpiece crew who have developed this disturbing habit of trying pending court cases in the court of public opinion.

In this court, a man who never attended law school (don’t know if he was trained in journalism either) somehow ended up being the court reporter, investigator, forensic scientist, expert witness on constitutional law, prosecutor and judge.

But what can I say except that only in a democracy these things can happen.

No offense, but that’s the reason our elected officials has no desire to be accountable to us. This has always been the case in Dominica. Vibes! honestly think about your response before hand. (make a case why you think what the PM is doing is valid)This is a citizen of Dominica with the same rights as you. If you choose not to want detail that’s your choice but Mr Brisbane choices to express his concerns. It may not be valid to me or you but it is to him and as a good citizen we need to learn to respect each other.
