UWP accuses PM of brushing aside important issues

UWP leader Ron Green

Leader of the United Workers Party (UWP) Ron Green has accused Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit of brushing aside issues of national interest.

The UWP held its first press conference for the year, aimed at revealing their plans for 2011 and highlight national issues.

According to Green, he wrote the prime minister about the recent increase in violence and crime in Dominica, calling for a national symposium, but it was brushed aside by the PM.

“It was contemptuously dismissed,” Green said.

According to Green, the people of Dominica should never stop at ensuring democracy is alive. “We see all parts on the Dominica Labour Party to disengage with the people but we are prepared to engage,” he said.

The UWP said it is planning to conduct a grand public meeting in Lagoon, Roseau on January 17, 2010. “We will be engaged with our civil society organization and we will seek to implore them to come out of the shadows, to get awake on issues that are so important to our people,” he said.

Meantime, Opposition Leader Hector John said the UWP is recommitting itself this year to fight for electoral reform and heighten the pressure in terms of electoral reform.

“It is in the interest of a thriving country, and every Dominican having the opportunity to vote who they want and not be afraid to do so. We are seeing a heightened form of intimidation that should not be tolerated by any Dominican,” he said.

According to John, Dominicans should not allow any government to use the police force to intimidate the people. John said plain-clothed police officers record every activity that the UWP holds and that’s frightening.

I am not sure if I missed something in the news article about the press conference; but what exactly did the UWP representatives present as the plans for 2011? The issues reported here all seem to be related to political campaigning. How does the UWP plan on playing a leadership role in Dominica’s development? No one is denying that electoral reform is important; however, maybe this could be left to one faction of the party while others focus on national development.

What are the plans for addressing the increase in violence? What about UWP leadership convening a peace symposium?
What about the increased number of vagrants not only in Roseau, but throughout the island? What about UWP leading a conference on how to address some of these social problems assailing our island?
What about the high unemployment rate? How does the UWP plan on creating jobs? How will we get our people back to working for honest pay?

Where do we stand on the increase in childhood sexual abuse? What about a conference to address these issues?

Party politics has its time and place..but national development is everyone’s business, and it is time that we leave party politics behind and work together to build our nation.

It is very disheartening to constantly read about party politics…we need to read about a real plan that addresses how this party plans on leading the country. This lack of leadership is getting us absolutely nowhere. We need to hear how the UWP will work at a grassroots level in every community to take our island to a level beyond where we are currently.

Now Bazil talking about gettin help for the police. When uwp was in power not even a wheel barrow they gave to police.Leaking police stations and not even film and finger printing equipment or uniforms.Ask Edison.Make the arrest Bazil I hope when we do it’s not one of your cronies that would be arrested for the crime because uwp who had the most to gain in the fire.If i was to investigate the fire I would have picked up all the uwp leaders for they look more suspicious to me.Is only them that can do that to put the blame on skerrit and his people.U all so crook u all can do it.Is all u the preaching hatred in dominica troblemakers. The same night Angello and the other toilet mouths on q95 were saying suspicious things about fire.Casting aspersions.Reading document on radio about Isidore this alone made all u suspects.U all have no respect for other people Insulting people who disagree with all u.When will uwp stop that nonesense and grow up.Next elections send Blessings for St.joe am sure he will win.He knows everything about people and who are criminals Ask his and I hope he says the truth and speak garbage like the rest of uwp.Toilet mouths.

The only sad thing is that your straight “A” was in Recess, that’s the only reason I feel you could write your piece. Please think for your next blog out before writing.

    January 6, 2011

    1. Did It not take a coalition to change the results of the Dominican vote?
    2. 2005 did not the UWP got more votes in actual numbers than the coalition despite no access to DBS? But more seats for the DLP.
    3. 2009 did it not take ‘ illegal’ imported votes, addition of countless Haitians, Spanish and chinese, lack of I’d cards and millions of external $?

Have we been forced to accept an illegitimate PM and Government?

If this is not Treason then what is?

      January 6, 2011

They got more votes in 2005 because they imported them from the dying-as-poorer ppl…now because it didn’t work out for them in 2009 and Skerrit could give more tickets they BLUE VEX! So hole u wif ur imported votes story is all u first that start it.

i refused a uwp ticket to go home to vote. But it would have been against my conscience to accept a ticket knowing that i would not vote for them. i think both of them did the same thing the people just preferred to put their trust in the labour party and i think it is high time you accepted that.

When is the UWP party gonna get it? I mean after 3 elections the people have not voted ya’ll in yet still Ron Green and his puppets are still there talking talking talking… The only party that can remove the labor party is maybe a new party made up of young, dedicated, intelligent, focused, and experienced individuals who are really in it to move dominica forward, not a bunch of power hungry fools who are just in it for the money and to boost there career. Most of these guys on both sides don’t have degrees, can’t speak properly and are just going around in the same damn circle, i mean give it up already.. How many folks showed up today for the conference? how many are u expecting on feb 17th huh? Dominicans want change but UWP is not the change the country needs right now, they had there chance and they F-ed it up so moveee on already and stop blowing hot smoke, it’s annoying.

When will Ron Green Edison James and the rest of those carton characters get it up in their grainy head that Dominicans rejected the U W Pwie.in December 2010 what is wrong with those 72 70 75 years old baby’s people are relay fed up with you now Skerrit you do right don’t respond to their letters until they come and sit their lazy tails in parliament that’s the only place and time to answer those big baby’s.i have a resolution. Be it resolved that the Government of the common wealth of Dominica stop the salary payments to members of the U W P opposition. And be it further resolved that until the opposition takes their seat in the parliament that no tax payers money should be used for any payment of any kind and and be it further resolved that they should be suspended from the Parliament of Dominica with e mediate effect until they understand that the people has rejected them and never again will they come back in power not even in their dreams. In my opinion they should be arrested on the 17th of January because all they are doing is instigating the hand full of lazy supporters to do violence in the country Ron you still doe change from the seven tie’s you are a Communist and a trouble maker remember the black power movement how much trouble u Arthie Para Wilchair and others cause when all u burnt the flag on the Royal Bank u want to bring that back but over our dead bodies all you not doing to Skerrit what all u did to Mr Leblanc he is there to stay put that in all you pipe and smoke it.

…………so if government does not respond to the request why does the opposition not go ahead and plan and execute the symposium on the recent upsurge of violence on the island……where is the initiative and what is the contribution of opposition to civil society? i believe that the UWP should get up off their laurels and start working to convince dominicans that they deserve a second chance in office…the constant complaining and blaming government for their failings is by no means validating their position nor their bid for government.

The UWP is planning another “grand public meeting” I hope a few dozen people show up this time. They just don’t seem to get it – the vast majority of people in Dominica are happy with our government – that’s why they won the election!

Focusing on the few negatives in Dominica, constantly attacking the Prime Minister and always complaining is not going to change the fact that the majority of Dominican’s do not want the failed policies of the past as represented by the UWP!

Democracy is alive and well in Dominica. The fact that the UWP has lost three consecutive elections does not indicate a problem with our democracy… it indicates a serious problem with the UWP. Sorry but it’s as simple as that.

And No i am not totally sold out on Labour. Contrary to some i believe that though the party is making some head ways there are some questions that need to be answered. But trust me most Dominicans aint going to vote in UWP… Trust that

People made thier choice and we must accept it.All of us are Dominicans we knew thier track records all what they did especially thier minister of Communications now a lawyer in exile.I personally expected these guys to come out with new ideas. To put out the Labour Party we want to hear what uwp can do better than them when they get government. Not the same old cry cry baby stuff again u loose try better.Instead u have Hector John a man who spends his time being drunk and opening his toilet speaking bad about police officers. He must remember if in his dreams he becomes pm the same police have to protect him just like they did to Edison. Are The uwp brains in thier rear? When speaking politics leave the police out of it.When i listen to the radio i hear about the threat to democracy a police state. If Dominica was a police state u feel everybody would call q95 and call the pm thief and all kind of dirty names. In a dictatorship the station would have closed down and all the anouncers would be in jail.Instead the government gave the same q95 an additional frequency for them to spread thier hate and division in the country.I ahve benn a police officer from sience the time of Patrick John to now and i have observed that sience the uwp came into being political hatred came into being.U had power u let off try again till u get it back not spreading lies and hatred among a peaceful people.Ron Green Athie and others forgot the Canadian flag and what they did to it.Edison must tell us why he fell out with Miss Charles when he was working with DBMC he forgot what he did to Jeff Scotland and Johnson Jnorose.Uwp has short memory.Edison forgot how he treated the police when he was in power. He wants to get back in power to finish those who oppose him.
