The fire and burning of the home of Glenworth Emmanuel on Christmas morning, which from all indications cannot be considered an accident, is the most serious and dangerous crime of the year.
Such an attack on an elder of 84 years and his wife while asleep, on a senior, distinguished and highly respected lawyer, and on a man with the courage to attack the scourge of corruption facing Dominica head-on by taking Mr. Skerrit’s lawyer to court, is without doubt , one which calls for the maximum condemnation, and indeed maximum action by Dominicans.
The United Workers Party condemns this next level of seemingly organized crime, seemingly being orchestrated to eliminate witnesses who come forward with evidence of corruption implicating the government and their agents. The UWP calls on all Dominicans to take maximum action to show their condemnation.
This vicious and criminal attack on the home of lawyer Glenworth Emmanuel on Christmas morning more than any other event in our country this year should signal the deep crisis into which Dominica has been plunged.
Following the fraudulent elections of Christmas 2009, and Prime Minister Skerrit’s unwillingness or inability to put a halt to the continuing acts of corruption and unaccountable governance, this crisis is the next level in the breakdown of the rule of law and the undermining of Dominica’s democracy. What we have seen over the year is: The IPO Commission has been unable to bite; inquiries called for have been ignored; secrecy and blocked information dominating parliament and government; government call for boycott of a private sector business has taken precedence over petitions signed by thousands of citizens; and government completely blocking all efforts of the Electoral Commission towards electoral reform.
Now we see attempted murder, and fire bombing of a private home on that holy night when the message of peace, justice and goodwill should fill the air.
The UWP condemns this outrageous and vicious criminal act, and the perpetrators of this heinous crime.
UWP calls on the president, the DPP, media, Christian churches, Bar Association, trade unions, National Council of Women, academic community, the Diaspora and all right thinking Dominicans, to spare no words in condemning this vicious crime.
The United Workers Party also calls on the Roosevelt Skerrit government to immediately set up an independent, professional and emergency investigation team involving the police and including other international crime agencies such as Scotland Yard and the FBI in order to provide personal security and to bring the perpetrators and those behind them, to justice.
Dear Mr Glenworth Emmanuel may I take this opportunity to pass my condolences to you and your family in regards to this despicable and horrendous act of terrorism although I have never met you I do feel for you, The United Workers Party have called on the Rossevelt Skerrit government to set up an independent professional and emergency investigation team to examine what too place on your property for example bring in the FBI or Scotland Yard, but surely the first port of call should be the local authorities and if the are unable to ascertain who the culprit or culprits were then they can seek out side help, but why go to that extreme in Dominica everyone knows each others business, we all know who was behind this fire bombing of your property which may I add is unacceptable. I would suggest that you contact the (UWP) favourite son lennox Linton who is after all an illustrious investigative Journalist, but I can foresee a problem there lennox is selective in what he wants to investigate, therefore he has compromise his impartibility,look at the bigger picture,why would someone who have just set fire to your home should deliberately leave behind the evidence namely the bottle that was used to carry the gas,you are a lawyer figure this one out (scary) as you may be aware there are some people out there who would like a (Coup d etat) illegally seizure of the government. unfortunately the balance of power between criminals and the police has swung too far from the side of the law.
Mr Green must be reminded of the events of August 12th 1979 that tore the hearts and terrorised the entire village of La Plaine and the entire south East for one year. He should also be reminded of those transparent leaders in La Plaine who sell agricultural land at $15.00 a square foot and receive cheques on the names of other individuals to evade the IPO.

This Christmas Day crime has left too many questions and name calling. UWPITES are blaming Labourites; LABOURITES blaming it on the opposition, some blame it on Isidore while others blame it on Emanuel. Why the constant need to refer to Mr Isidore as the PM’s lawyer? Is that the only client Mr Isidore had?
Why the need to continually make this case which is not about the PM, about the PM?
And lastly…………. things are not always what they seem? Should we just jump to conclusions and sya that becasue Mr Isidore is 1 of the PM’s lawyers, then it’s one of the PM’s people who committed the crime!

People have been making references to Rwanda in various postings. The gist of the Rwanda Massarce was simple. If one set of people in a country be it along ethnicity,religious, class or socio-political lines is constantly disenfranchised and kept in the state of abject hopelessness and dispossession they will rise up and destroy whosoever is oppressing them. The people in Rwanda who rose up did not use guns but cutlasses. As outrageous as it is for what was done and as dehumanizing as it was the genocide clearly showed that no one class or section of a people should be subjugated.

I reside in Toronto. We have had such evil activities at Christmas. A couple’s home has been recently targeted a few times. The home was placed on the market for sale and someone caused his home to be on fire. The wife had just returned home from the hospital with a baby. They were fortunate to escape.
At this point I do not know who the owners are and what has contributed to this. As the police conducts an investigation we may hear more on this matter.
Society is to be transformed. If we hope to receive God’s blessing, graces and peace, it is imperative that we do good. Allow people their views, pros and cons but do not destroy them, their career or their property. This could also lead to loss of life.
Those who do evil, do you not know what could happen to you later and in the coming year? Food for thought.
There is so much I have to share with others about my perception of doing good that as we live and age, we may be happy, peaceful, healthy and contribute to the godly needs of others and not otherwise.

As a citizen in the diasporra I try to balance the news I am reading however if this act alledegly criminal in nature was committed with political implications I am begining to get worried. The principle that everyone – from the individual right up to the State itself – is accountable to laws that are publicly promulgated, equally enforced and independently adjudicated, is a fundamental concept which we must protect dearly.
This is undoubtedly the most irresponsible statement that I have ever read from any leader of any political party. Ron always struck me as severely deficient in leadership skills and the fact that he would make those comments demonstrate this even further.

I heard a response from the leadership of Dominica a couple months ago, in which it was stated that the crime in Dominica is not violent. If that statement was not irresponsible, I don’t know what is, and coming from the leader of the country. Look at the list of murders for 2010 put out by DNO, this does not include a whole list of other violent crimes, in which people lost body parts, property etc.
I can see civil unrest in the near future, if we don’t attempt to take control, and find ways and means to cut down on crime in Dominica. What is the response of the government to all this, where is the ministry of security and defense, the legal department? We need to take this seriously and it needs to start from the top.

Further more I think it is incumbent on the UWP to deal with the matter in a peaceful way. If we are trying to deal with crime then we cannot solve it with crime. So I think the statement on the maximum action should have been properly phrased. The UWP could be called up for inciting violence which I am sure it does not want.
