UWP obsessed with general election – PM Skerrit

Skerrit his preoccupation is the development of Dominica
Skerrit his preoccupation is the development of Dominica

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has said the United Workers Party (UWP) is obsessed with general election.

Speaking on Kairi’s Heng Program on Monday, the prime minister said his preoccupation is to continue developing Dominica.

“It is the opposition that is preoccupied and obsessed with elections. I am not preoccupied and obsessed with elections. My preoccupation has always been to do what we have to do to continue the development of Dominica,” he stated. “So it is not us who have an obsession with the elections, it is the opposition.”

According to him, the Dominica Labour Party’s (DLP) election campaign will be based on its “14 years of development and transformation in Dominica.”

He made it clear that his government will not suspend the works or efforts of the government because of elections and will continue despite criticism.

Meanwhile, Skerrit wants to opposition to answer a few questions in light of the looming general election.

“Should we suspend all government activities?” he asked. “Should we say to the people of Dominica that they shouldn’t come to us for any assistance because elections are soon? Should we tell the people that your roads will not be completed, you should not be provided with housing assistance because elections are soon? Should we tell the students who attend the State College, who come to us to pay their tuition fees and to assist them with transportation, that we will not be able to do that because elections are soon?”

Dominica’s general election is constitutionally due by May 2015.

Could someone find out what exactly is the prime minister
Motive? He is just playing political games now taking Dominicans for fools. It is the pm who is obsess with power nap election. He fooling a few by using reverse psychology all the time. Tell the pm to learn the truth because there are so many obvious signs in him of an obsessed leader who wants to remain in power for life. Instead of talking out of turn please tell Dominicans what are you putting or have put in place to deal with Ebola and all the other viruses not diseases out there. Instead of being obsessed with elections be obsessed with putting things in place to fight ebola. What is in place at the airport now other ports of entry? What protection is in place for immigration officers, health care workers, and citizens s…. Where is the controller center, , if the USA is fighting to control the disease not without loopholes- which they are correcting. What are you doing? Did Tim Tim order top of the line gears to protect folks… ex non- latex gloves for officers. Hope there won’t be racket when purchasing stuff….
That should be your obsession… with creole fest not other activities coming up…. remember how chip v causing havoc in the caribbean..
Stop focusing on uwp, focus on chip very nice ebola control, did you hear what Vinci not Lucia did,, follow your labour comrades.

Oh! oh! KING KONG beating his chest proud that after 14 years, his greatest achievements are people Begging; begging; begging; public servants 0%; 0%; 0%. Why should people not have an obsession with elections? Who does general elections belong too, DLP or Skerrit? Boss let me remind you, that it’s the peoples business to elect whom the chose to conduct their affairs. I know you and some of your illiterates would love to change the status quo; but sorry the obsession belongs to we the people, until we decide otherwise. Like one of your favorite sayings, God is good all the time and all the time God is good. Your kind will last for as long as he allows and believe me it’s not forever. How long not long.

Daddy really? The pot calling the kettle black? You accused their leader of plagirism when you are the king plagiariser. Now, who more obsessed with general elections than you, when austrie keep biting your bottom, bcus you do not know what to do again. I do not know whether it is another wisper from you or a dream. I hope I have not inherited your bipolar disorder. You are a two-tone man all the time and all the time a two-tone man. Can you recall you, wispering to me that you are going to make some pre election cabinet changes, the major one being that:
That tony will be min. of agriculture and animal husbandry
That calling will be min. of women’s affairs,
That julian giraud will be deputy PM and min of finance
That ambrose will be min. cyber technoly .
That aaron will be min. of rites
That kelvar will be min of Arawak and carib affairs.
That pettar, justnah, , austrie will be mins. of nothing.
You are on a charismatic, bipolar comic spree daddy.

Mr. Skeritt are You insinuating that Elections are not Important? Remember part of our development is to maintain a Democracy as outlined by our Constitution.
On the other hand Mr. Skeritt seems obsessed with not having elections and I say so not in a vacuum but the evidence is there ,during the Labour Party Convention in Pointe Michel the Election for Candidates was side tracked by Mr. Skeritt even though He had stated that there would be changes made in those constituencies where the Representatives were not working hard enough.Later on we saw Mr. Skeritt making those changes Himself whereas they should have been made by the Party Delegates .If that is not an indication of a Dictator I do not know what is.
Dictators in General do not like Elections because Elections put thew power in the People and takes it away from the Dictator .
Dominicans You know what You have to do to keep our Democracy ,Skeritt call it nuh!

dear mr. Skerrit you ask the question”Should we tell people that your roads will not be completed?”.
I think you should ask the people in the south east and in particular the residents of Rosalie and Petit Soufriere where the road project finally connecting these two communities has been all but abandoned.
Action speaks louder than words but inaction even more so. You have your answer Sir.

I agree with the PM, He did develope Dominica to a certain extent. If someone can stand up and say he/DLP did nothing , that person would be blind or not living in Dominica. They did quite a bit. Now did it help the average Dominican financially…. NO. Most of the money went back overseas or to ONE SET of people where it SEEMS some member of Government have a direct interest or get their cut. It’s sad to see so many people have to line up at the Financial center every week while the same set make MILLIONs every month. The rich are getting richer and the middle class are now in the poor category. It’s sad to see what has happened to the DLP, they forced me to become an independent . I am listening to both side and honestly, i like what I hear from team Dominica when Mr. Fountain speaks about the economy. (so far). There is still alot more to be said on both side to convince me.

    I am Dominica(n), I am independent

The PM’s words made me laugh that UWP is obsessed with election. I bet they cannot wait for that date. They are actually restless. At this moment they are idle and have nothing to do which is why they go about in this manner, even appearing at DBS for air time.

    Skerrit,

Why must UWP answer those questions for you ??. You are in government and you are the one in leadership; therefore you are to answer those questions yourself. When you ready to have a face to face debate then you can ask those questions. You questions will be answered at a face to face debate, until then stop with your stupid questions.

Also, accusing UWP of being obsessed and pre-occupied with elections, is dismissing a large segment of the population, because UWP represents a large portion of the population and their values.

His Honor, Dr. Skerrit knows that his leadership is ordained by God and that he will never be moved from his position as Dominica’s supreme King, so why worry His mind about a senseless election that is already decided by the more than 60,000 loyal and devoted Laborites! The fact is he has already won the election long before it is called. I say keep teasing, confounding, and mocking them Blue while they continue to cry the “BLUES”!!!!

They love Dominica and care about the wellbeing of the country unlike you who is ONLY concerned about power to get ALL that you can. ….the majority of us have to come to you for toilet, toilet paper, sugar, and all the basic things of life that we have been deprived of by your policies. You want to hold to power so you could take more and cover your corruption while the UWP wants to deliver us. LET MY PEOPLE GO SKERRIT!

The ignorance of this gentleman called Skerrit never ceases to amaze me. This guy said that election is going to be called soon so everyone is waiting with bated breath, even the investors big and small.

Now how on God`s earth can one invest in Dominica right now when the country is in political limbo. All this, will he call the election and when will he call the election is harming the country financially.

Yet there are so many people who applaud such ignorance and incompetence. This sort of behaviour is one typical of a leader who is devoid of any common sense never mind academically qualified. This man is ruining the country and if you Dominicans do not pay close attention, what you will inherit is a country which resembles Greece(A Bankrupt island) whether you are DLP or UWP supporter.

So wherever they common sense river is flowing you guys best get down to the river and start drinking and bathing in and from that river. Do not go selling your votes people.

Why should an election be called because the UWP says so? Elections are not due until May 2015. I know the UWP is burnt out but whose fault is that.

They should have spent their time better than just campaigning all the time. Now that it is less than 9 months before an election, they are burnt out.

What have they done as an opposition party for Dominicans to see them as our next government? What can they point to that would help most Dominicans see them as the next Government? I cannot see them in government at this time.

Knowing what we know now and maybe there is still more to come, if you had a business which one of the UWP candidates would you hire to head your company.

(Don’t even bother to bring up that 3 months and tell me about March 2015). It is really unfair for us to not know the election date at this stage. I don’t know why Dominican elections always have to be last minute and we end up with not enough time to have election fever – campaigns, debates, motorcades, manifestos …..

14 years is way too much for any political party to rule uninterrupted.
Any political party that is in office that long tends to grow corrupt and out of touch with the people and the reason they were elected in the first place. And we are seeing multiple instances where the Labour regime has lost sight of their mission: They have grown rich for the most part, at the people’s expense. They have grown arrogant and have come to believe that they have a divine right to rule. And I don’t blame them. I would blame voters for allowing them to feel that way.
Democracy is in jeopardy when we fail to replace the ruling party if only to keep them in check and to remind them that they serve at the pleasure of the people.

Your PM calls press conferences and chooses whom should attend to ask him questions. Those who attend on invitation are all supporters of his party and government!! They tailor their questions to him in order to not embarrass him in any way. As a matter of fact, the last press conference which the PM held was controlled to such an extent that the PM said that he was there for a specific purpose and would take questions only in relation to that!!! What has UWP done for Dominica that people are making these ludicrous comments about Skerrit? what is UWP doing now at this moment ? What has UWP done in the last 10 years except oppose? Its so obvious that they want positions in government to steal money… because everything they promise is based on ‘after we get elected’ and if they get elected they will say they cannot do this and cannot do that because of the previous government while pocketing money. My advice to anyone is leave labour where it is for another 5 years, let them finish what they started. In 5 years time Skeritt should leave the prime minister seat simply for the sake of exercising democracy he can stay within the party as a minister.

    October 14, 2014

Why is this even news? The PM was talking to “the Heng”… if he really wanted to send a message or ask a question to the UWP he would answer positively to the call for a debate.

The PM isn’t obsessed with an election, he is obsessed with one man. He tried framing LL for leaking documents, tried to “catch” him for plaigirism, accuse him of seeking anger management, sent a stripper to follow and record him on his trips, then called a rally to spend 2 hours talking about him.

Skerritt is right…this is not campaigning, this is stalking!

Should there not be departmental services within the governmental system which deals with the peoples needs as it relates to the various services which we use, EG (social housing, benefits, health service and so on).

An American author, speaker and pastor once said ” A leader is one who nows the way, and shows the way”. The development of a nation depends to a great extent on the vision, and ability of its leaders. It would appear that our present leaders have lost thier way and and are cluless as to what direction this country should be going. Base on the number of mistakes, and bad management this country has experienced and is experiencing, it would be safe to say that the present leaders don’t want to relinquish their hold on power because of greed. Dominicans must take a moment to think of what’s in the best interest of the country, and not those who will cripple the country for thier selfish gain.

  48. Francisco Telemaque
    October 14, 2014

There you go again Mr. Skerrit, as usual insulting the intelligence of the people. For you to insinuate that the UWP is obsessed with general election, is another way if saying “to hell with the constitution.” Election is mandatory according to the constitution of our country. Therefore every Dominican at this time knowing that it is time for such an event do have the right to look forward to election day, hence everyone in the country must become obsessed to ensure that you do not take the dictator route and refuse to call the election!

Your attitude and arrogance you display at the moment is that of a dictator, and that will cause your downfall! Secondly If you are preoccupied with developing Dominica, you are actually preoccupied into doing nothing. Since the only development we see taking place in Dominica is the resurfacing of existing roads; nothing new is taking place in Dominica. The same roads you are resurfacing today have been in existence for almost a hundred years prior to your birth.

When people talk about development of a country, we talk about job creation, in the form of manufacturing industries, Hotels, and tourism ect, ect, and ect. The fact that you are giving a few people handouts under some government program in order to make people believe that you are creating employment is a joke. That is not sustainable employment, that is a tactic you are using to influence people to vote for you.

After election, if they return you to power, the source of the few penny’s will be dried up, and these people will be back to square one nothing to do. It is time that you realize that you have done all you can do, you peaked a long time ago, and have become bankrupt of political ideas, there nothing else you can do within your human power to get Dominica in a direction of prosperity; you have failed miserably, you have failed yourself, and our nation, it is time for a change of government sir.

Let me remind you St. Vincent Argyle International Airport is about to go into full operation before December, of this year; 2014. Your preoccupation is the changing of the Name Melville Hall Airport to What? Such are the silly, and useless things you concentrate on, and expect people to respect, and favor you; while the bellies of the people boil with hunger, the movement of gasses in the stomach of the hungry can be heard in the belly of the people when the walk the streets of Dominica. Wake up sir, the time for something new has arrived; wish an new administration luck!

After Gonzalez made a fool out of you, you should have taken a qu out of his book and use it to correct the mistake you made by squandering so much of the taxpayers money on the same pink Elephant at Melville, where you want to change its historic name to nothing.

The election bug that is in the air is adversely affecting all kind of development especially the development of our human resources. instead of prolonging it just call the bloody election….. what you afraid of? 14 years DLP in power and you want to do in 7 months what you did not do in 14 years. All of a sudden you have work to do? That Dimitry must mamotay the date one of these days. Dominica does not belong to you Mr. Skerrit. If you love Dominica so much set it free. If it comes back to you … well…

IKR. Dominica does not belong to Skerrit. Free us up. It is time for the country to show it’s ptential

  52. October 14, 2014

Hello and good afternoon my people. First I must say that I never voted and have no intention of voting because I don’t reside in Dominica. The Prime Minister or his party shouldn’t be the one to determine what date elections are held rather it should be a set date about three months before the end of that term. In that way if the party in power is re-elected then they just continue but if they lost then that would give the new party three months to put their people in place. We are a Democratic Country and we can’t have one person regardless of party determining election date.

Speak the truth! If your government has 14 years of development to show why all that flurry of activity? Everyday is a handing over of thousands and millions, road works here and road works there. It is of a truth that a sitting government should not be using the last few months before General Elections to convince the masses. It’s track record of development should be clearly evident. Too much corruption and injustice has been and is being perpetrated in Dominica. I would say this current administration is FEARFUL of calling the General Elections.

For the first time in years Skeritt has spoken the truth. Mr. Linton is beyond an obsession, he can no longer accept the deep suffering of his people. It is more that time to relieve the people of Dominica of economical bondage. It is time to deliver the people of Dominica from lying, cheating and stealing. It is time to deliver the people of Dominica from the tons of depression that now envelope them. It is time for Dominica to be the place to live, work, enjoy life.

In the pantheon of utter political stupidity in our time, the competition is pretty fierce to see who ranks #1.
But I have to imagine that, even with so many rivals, Dominica’s Roosevelt Skerrit makes a pretty compelling argument to be the champion, to tell the world that all your rushed projects not done for votes is unbelievable to say the least. 8)

You want the opposition to answer your question then come get the answers in a public debate.

Who was so obsessed with election to call election 6 days before Christmas?

Who is obsessed with election that that a promise was made to get all 21 seats

Who authorized two By elections ( Salibury and Marigot)

    Who is busy buying votes

Who is busy tryig to get diasporans to coe vote for him because he doesn’t have the votes in Dominica

Every time Skerrit talks without plagiarizing he put his foot,Hartley’s Hands, Tony’s tongue and Lennox Lawrence lusty n his mouth – all at once.

Spin spin spin. All of a sudden your priority is to develop Dominica? Had you created an environment for sustainable development and employment people wouldn’t have to be coming to you to beg for school fees, transportation and housing. They would be able to build their own homes and the students parents would be able to send their children to school for the most part. You are the one obsessed with election because you busy implementing all kind of scheme and project to catch a vote. UWP lost 2009 elections by 355 votes across various constituencies. You know they have a greater following this time and your winning this time is a big struggle. So you dragging your feet. Call the elections- call it- we are tired of you.
    Time to go Skerrit!!!!!

    • Sout Man
      October 14, 2014

What do you mean by 355 votes across constituencies? Is it the average or the total? In either case your number is bogus and manufactured.

In 2009 UWP got 12 660 votes while the DLP got 22 235 votes; a difference of 9 575. It’s an average loss of 456 per constituency. DLP won by more than 1000 votes in each of these constituencies: Grand Bay, Paix Bouche, Roseau North, Portsmouth (nearest rival), Petite Savanne won by almost 1000, Roseau South by more than 800 and Mahaut by more than 700. Vieille Case was more than 800 also.
