UWP “ready to rumble” – Linton

Linton said the UWP is in full gear
Linton said the UWP is in full gear

Even before prime minister Roosevelt Skerrit announced the December 8 date for General Election, leader of the United Workers Party, Lennox Linton, said the party’s campaign is in full gear.

Skerrit announced the date of the election on Wednesday afternoon but speaking at a UWP press conference on Wednesday morning, Linton said the UWP is ready to go.

“We are ready to rumble, the party is in gear, the campaign is in gear…” he said.

According to him, the UWP will be stepping up its election campaign with major political activities over the next few days.

There will be political meetings in all 21 constituencies and a major rally in the Roseau South Consituency on November 9, dubbed “Victory for Change.”

“Tonight we will be all around Dominica, in every single constituency with a block meeting,” he said. “These block meetings are designed to present our state of readiness to the voters of Dominica, all around Dominica between 6:00 pm and 11:00 pm. There will be a political meeting tonight in every constituency, in all 21 constituencies. Some of the constituencies we will be doing whistle stops and some will have only block meetings, but there will be political activities on the theme of our readiness.”

Linton also raised concerns over electoral reform in Dominica.

“There is no question that we are ready for this election, the question is whether the electoral commission whose responsibility it is to deliver free and fair election, whether that commission is ready for elections,” he stated. “We have come to more than a year since the electoral commission has been talking to us about Identification Cards for voting, which go back to a decision that the commission made back in 2008. To date the commission cannot tell the people of Dominica whether we will vote with an accurate register of electors or whether we will have ID cards for voting.”

Linton further stated that the party is concerned that the electoral commission is going to be “conducting elections on the same old arrangements that have existed now and which have been manipulated effectively by the Dominica Labour Party, especially in the last two elections.”

“I refer here specifically the inaccurate list of electors, the fact that overseas based nationals who have been out of the country for more than five years, therefore should not be on the register by law, are still allowed to vote by the electoral commission, the fact that people have been known to vote in the name of dead people,” he said.

According to him, the UWP is well informed on arrangements being made for foreign nationals to cast ballots.

“We are hearing all sorts of arrangements being made for foreign nationals to cast ballots in this elections in the names of Dominicans who might be dead,” Linton stated. “All of that is exactly why over the years the Electoral Commission itself, the Chief Elections Officer, visiting groups of observers from the Commonwealth, from the OAS, CARICOM have recommended electoral reform.”

Uwp must keep focus. Keep to issues n stick to the plan.. This government has many questions to answer before they could think of being re= elected. To much bobol, corruption, mal practice n empty promises. Skerritt has continued to fool Dominicans year in and year out.
Dominicans are to be blamed for the state of de economy, youth, development, international airport n so forth, no forgetting poverty…… majority of Dominicans are struggling to servive yet still they saying they are Red ready, just pure foolishness n blindness. The labour slogan should be labour pa ka twave. In stead of all these lies. Labour came in to power through lies n they have remained in power through lies n constant lying.
Time for change because God knows labour party is not authentic n have any moral authority…….
Time for change, only rouge leaders wanna remain in power for so long…. Skerrrrritt wanna be like baby doc or papa doc, many signs of dese guys in Skeerritt.
The day will come when Dominicans will cry when they hear that name Skerritt. Its coming sooon, prophesy.

“development–which are about the necessities and not the luxuries–which we need for contented living.”(Elizabeth Xavier).

You know why there are so many poor people like you in Dominica, it is because of your stupid mentality. What is wrong with having luxury; or living in Luxury? I know you are going to talk something about God, however, I am here to tell you that it is not the wish of God that any human alive should live on welfare, or want of anything, or in poverty!

For he said said in his word, that he is the one who make people rich; that is not a direct quote, or verbatim according to how it is written in the Bible; but he also said you have not because you ask not. He told us whatsoever we want to ask his Father in my name (not Francisco name) in the name of Jesus, believing you receive it and it will be given unto you.

So, what is the definition of “whatsoever?” I believe the simplest way to define that would mean anything that one wants. And since you are a preacher, I refer you to King Solomon, when he prayed for wisdom, God Jehovah decided since he did not pray for riches, he was going to make Solomon the richest man of that time. Again the Bible spells out how rich Abraham was, and be reminded it was not rich in sprit as some religion such as the Roman Catholic, and some protestants teach.

If you read you Bible you may find where the Bible stated, (gave an account) of the amount of money in gold and also silver, along with the amount of Cattle, Sheep Ox’s , and Asses (Donkeys ), Abraham had. What about the male servants, and the female servants he had. I keep telling people like you before you open your mouth and disgorge rubbish, you need to know what you are conveying to people. If it is your desire to live in poverty, God will allow you to remain in poverty, but that is not his will! “You have not because you ask not!

If you are going to be a beggar; beg from God, and not people such as Skerrit; or any other politician, because they are not the source of anything, God Jehovah is the source of everything.

Knock and it will open unto you; seek and yea shall find, and that is for whatsoever you desire; the Bible will support my argument. If it was God wish for anyone he created to be poor, and living in poverty he would not have said: when a man dies, he should leave enough for his children, and his children; children. One have to be very rich to be able to leave so much behind for his children, and his grand children. So, according to Ambrose George and company I quote: “come” again.”

I am surprised that someone like you who acts as if you are an authority over the words of God would know it is not the wish of God Jehovah that any body including you Elizabeth should live a poor and miserable life in poverty! Blame the world system for the poverty that 99.9999% of the worlds inhabitants live with. Jesus said I come that you might have life more abundantly: how can one have in abundance when they are consumed in poverty!

Somebody tell me why does this guy make such inflammatory statements without proof? If you state that some people are voting using identification of dead persons then give at least one name of a dead person who has voted. If you believe that Dominicans living out of the country more than 5 years are coming down to vote, then provide the names of such that you know. If you wanted ID cards for voting then you should have supported it and been part of the process when it was being introduced. At this stage in the game you need to crawl out of skerro bottom… where you like to live and start talking about your own party and yourself! UDOHREADYET

You must study politics carefully.E C Loblack and Phyllis Alfre formed the Labour party in 1955 ,,,They left the Labour Party and formed the Freedom PARTY.It was the labourites in Senjo who asked for a new party then some others followed and formed UWP,They the Uwp treated a founder member from Senjo as a black sheep .

There was never dark days under the UWP. After Mamo the country needed a spur of activities, and that is what UWP delivered. Now we have dark days and if Skerro wins that election look out for more dark days, many of you will want to escape Dominica. Mark my words Dominicans. All you think NEP and 200 dollars for over 70 elderly will continue, how is the economy going to support this, hey wait more new taxes? Are you all willing to face new taxes?

Nobody wants to go back to dark days my friend. In fact it is impossible to go back in time at all. But things can not get darker than they are today under Skerrit. I even can not call it labour because is Skerrit and Skerrit alone, you only have to see the billboards all over the place. All his constituency representatives are playing second fiddle if they have any fiddle to play at all. Call me stupid but I’m going to take my chance with Team Dominica this time, which is different from the old UWP. In fact, forget about that old UWP, if you remember who was minister of finance then.

  21. November 6, 2014

It is indeed a fact that Roosevelt Skerrit has mismanaged the Country’s economy by relying on grants and loans while ignoring internal growth engines! The focus on tourism as a major economic growth factor was a disaster to say the least. Abandoning agriculture altogether was another colossal mistake!
Dominicans are, in fact, more dependent on Government Assistance now than at any time in our history. Civil employees are under-paid and many others in contractual agreements with the Government are not being paid at all. Many less fortunate Dominicans are not able to travel and to gain true world knowledge. It is this lack of knowledge that our current Prime Minister and others in his Cabinet prey on! Most Dominicans vote on party loyalty rather than the real issues that is affecting their homeland! Real issues like loans and grants that has to be repaid and will still be crippling Dominica’s economy for many years to come while Dominica is not producing, manufacturing or exporting anything much to boost internal revenue growth.
The promise of more roads, buildings and institutions that rely mainly on foreign financial assistance is a promise of piling more debt on top of debts that are already weighing us down!
Meanwhile, Chinese merchants continue to take money out of our economy to send back to China. Every dollar sent to China is a dollar out of a Dominican’s pocket. Now, calculate that by hundreds of thousands per year and you will understand the importance of keeping monies circulating within the economy so that each time you spend a dollar you are benefiting a Dominican and not a Chinese individual thousands of miles away!
Any knowledgeable person can tell you that you cannot remedy unemployment without improving internal productivity. No Country is going to loan us money to keep our Citizens employed. In order to spur long-term employment growth we must improve in our manufacturing, agricultural, tourism and exporting sectors! Jobs are simply created from within!
The Dominica Labor Party is a party of good and patriotic Dominicans, but the leadership has simply lost their way with regards to good, responsible, moral and intelligent governance. I am sorry, but I must speak the truth. Dr. Skerrit I know you may be upset at me for this but it is my way of giving you a mandate should you win this election. May God bless Dominica!!!! I believe I will be voting for the United Workers Party this time around!

OK Lennox Linton, you or anyone else know of nobody who voted in the name of any dead person, at any time, in any election in this country. You are telling a “bold face” LIE. No one has been accused or charged for this act. You and I know that if this ever happened there would be loud noises in every corner of this country. You are unable to present a mere hint of evidence to your claim. Now you must promptly apologize to the Nation.

I am just praying that God remains in control for Life in the people of Dominica and her development–which are about the necessities and not the luxuries–which we need for contented living.

I pray that God will execute His control in the minds of our people, as He chooses the men and women which He desires to do His work–for the sake of the humble, the weak, and the disadvantaged, the ignorant or innocent Dominicans.

Those of us who are calling for change–if at all we are not just repeating what we hear; not knowing what change it is that we are asking for–be informed that the only change that is needed in Dominica, must happen within, that change is the reformation of the minds of the people of Dominica, young and old–men, women, boys and girls.

Dominicans need the grounds of a mind that is trustful, humble, and obedience to God’s command–are we not supposed to be “a people full of Godly reverend fear?”

Winning an election–to govern a country– is one thing; and being able to maintain that victory for the glory of God—He who gives the victory— is another thing.

For God detests self pride, human mightiness, haughtiness, self conceit, and all the rest that mean a “contentious” mentality–He has said that He will bring down those with that kind of attitude and conduct, for He wants” no flesh to glory in His presence”

I pray that God has already dealt with that mentality in people and His choice of government in Dominica is in tact. Or else I pray that He will show us His mercy and compassion, through whatever He has planned for us Dominicans and our country–I say Amen!.

In Dominica’s political history PM Skerrit will go done as the most coward PM refusing to debate; refusing to face the press ; refused to allow free access to DBS Radio; He is the only PM who has cursed on national radio; The only PM that comes close to cursing Dominicans was PJ who promised to jailed civil servants on Cabrits if they strike and guess what he paid the price for that – ask Charlo about those days; Eugenia was called all kinds of names Madame dracular; Iron Lady; among others Eugie never take them on; Charlo himself was teased he marry de girl Charlo doh take on people ;Eddie never take on people either when they say country bokie come to town;- ask for Rosie and Pierro they never take them on; remember Crazy -T had a donkey bray before Pierro came to speak on his station a total and unforgettable act – total disrepect – yet still he is tolerated by laborites as a champion; Sherro will go down as the most thin skin PM in DA history also – when confronted unlike the others he would revert to insults and curse works such as – calling people all kinds of names like bastards , tick; go to hell; none of your damn business etc . can’t buy a tin of paint to paint your Hotel pure mepuis and unbecoming of a PM I mean we must record those pass 10 to 12 years as the worst in Dominac’s political history. The crooked Labour party already have the list of names from various countries that they are sending tickets to come to vote..
For those of you who are going to vote just because you are getting a free ticket, be honest with yourself. If you have no interest in what goes on in the country,no plans to go back to live there, why do you want to go back and make the choice of government for those who live there. Let the people who live in the country make their choice.
Folks, ask yourself, where is Skerrit getting that money from to buy all those tickets? where did he get the 50,000 from to give to the bishop ?Do not be blind. open your eyes. ask questions.

No longer will you be able to go to a health center to check your blood pressure at no cost . I support UWP big time, and I will vote them too. But thats not the comment I expected to hear from you Lennox.
You guys had a year to clean that list yourselves. You cannot depend on the Electoral Commision or the PM to do it, they wont, its in their favor to have overseas voters voting on dead peoples names. they cant win the election otherwise.
What each uwp candidate should have done, was to scrutinize the list, find the dead people on it, get the relevant information from the registry and have those names removed.
In any case, I support your policies and plans, time for me and all Dominicans to make some money now, and get rid of these corrupt guys who only care about themselves.

    • BEB
      November 5, 2014

I do not see how the UWP Team are saying that people are voting under the disguised of dead people. Come on, every candidate going up for election, have a representative at the various poling stations, if someone who does not belong to that poling station makes an appearance claiming that he/she is from that area , both representatives and the other people working at the poles have to scrutinize the list to see whether that person’s name is on the list. I do not think it is fair to say that people are coming to represent dead persons. On the notion that people are coming from overseas to vote, it was done by the UWP when in office

its not impossible for this to happen because people carry same names . Also if the list of names were not reviwed , it means that dead people names are still on the list . Voters should be made to preset some form of identification, but Linton you are rather reactive instead of proactive , This is a clear indication that you are not ready to lead my country , if it is that you are now concern about electoral list when the date for election is given . Mr. Linton has been ready since September 2013. Love Mr. Linton or not, everyone including laborites must agree, he has caused Skeritt some serious concerns . Should Skeritt loose the next General Elections, all blame should be placed right in his face. Since September 2013, he and the host of the animal show spent to much time on Lennox Linton, the leader. The man’s popularity skyrocketed as far as the moon. In my opinion, the meeting at Lagoon termed , ” Linton must go,” was the last nail in the coffin. How can you call Lennox’s name approximately two thousand time within four hours and don’t expect Dominicans and the world by extension to be curious, to say the least, find out who that person is.

Mr. Linton it sounds like you are ready yet scared! Indeed electoral reform should have been addressed months, if not years, ago! To say that you are not on a level playing field is an understatement at this point. If an unfair election tips the scales in any party’s favor it is, in fact, an injustice to ALL Dominicans on a whole! Let us hope that common-sense rules the day and that we operate on a higher moral level on December 8th! Good luck to both Parties and may God bless each of you during the campaign season. I might surprise Dominica this time! Indeed, a high-ranking and not-so-loyal-anymore Laborite
