UWP Youth Arm to hold rally in ‘St. Joe’

uwp youthThe youth arm of the United Workers Party (UWP) will be holding a National Youth Rally in St. Joseph on May 25.

The rally, dubbed “Youth in it too”, will see young people from around Dominica express their views on the developmental, social economic and political issues affecting the youth in Dominica, according to organizers.

“We the youth leadership of the UWP Team Dominica came up with the idea of a rally organized by youth and for youth where we the youth would give our perspectives as to what kind of Dominica we would like to see for ourselves,” UWP youth president, Anwar Cadette, explained.

He said the idea was presented to the UWP Management Committee and the green light was given.

“We the Youth feel very empowered by the confidence which the UWP Team Dominica has placed in us, in allowing us to plan and implement such a rally ourselves,” he stated.

Cadette described the rally as “a family affair for all colours”

“whilst ‘The Youth in it too’ Rally is being organized by the Youth Arm of the UWP Team Dominica, all youth are impacted on by government’s policy and action,” he noted. “Too often have our youth been stereotyped and their negative actions highlighted. Too often our youth have been stereotyped as ‘we want it now generation’. Whilst it may sound like our youth want everything, and we want it now, that is not really the case. Our Youth know that money is not all. Youth want to be positively engaged. Youth want to be respected, trusted and empowered. This Rally is a Test for us. We wish to thank the UWP Team Dominica for their trust and confidence in us.”

He noted it is for this reason all youth are invited to the event.

“Therefore Dominican Youth of all political and religious affiliations, are invited to The ‘Youth in it too Rally’ at St Joseph on 25th May, starting at 3:00 pm,” Cadette stated. “And as you know, the youth who get family support and appreciation always do better, so we are inviting parents, grandparents, big brothers, sisters, uncles, aunts and the entire family, to come to give support to the youth.”

He even noted that it is okay to wear party colors to the rally.

“But you can even be creative like on ‘Come as you Like Day’ and come in any colour,” he explained, noting that the rally signals “a new level of engagement of our youth in national affairs.”

BLA BLA BLA…… Time for election to call so workers cann so have a sit for another 5 years.. with their “change is a must” nonsense.. and what changes are they going to make? saying something and actually doing it are two very different things. i am a young person myself and i hav witnessed change with the current government that has infact improved the country and many youths. so why on earth would i be pushing for change when labor is helpin and are still figuring out ways to assist everyone.. leave them in government , let them finish what they have started.. No one government will every b perfect.. labor has its flaws .. but they are working.. the only changes need to be made is that skerrit personal oversees that every parl rep is doin his/her job and nt jus take their word for it.. skerrit has alot of great ideas but some of parliamentary representatives arent working hard enough to back it up.. if that is fixed then all is well

Come on! It’s obvious that this initiative is being coordinated that the UWP senior leadership and not the youth as they pretend. The whole reason for calling it a “youth rally” (that is opened to every one – from granny to baby) is to have something to fall back on when 800-1,000 people show up. I will be listening to see if I am wrong. The speakers and the content of their speeches will show who this is geared towards.

Is this the same UWP that say Labour stealing their ideas? Let them follow the leader. They will continue to be lead by the Labour Party in government and they all will be out of Parliament. 0 to UWP 21 to Labour. It really looks like it.

Great initiative guys. I will be there. At least its an open forum for the youth to express themselves. I was appalled at the DLP motorcade – ladies sticking out of vehicles screaning in empty buses being lead by the police, ..! LOL. good griff..!

It appears I am leaning more towards that side…! This could be a potential vote for the UWP.

Congratulations to the UWP Team Dominica for promoting the youth is such a big way… As a parent my assessment is that the youth of this country have been totally misguided by poor governance over the past 14 years. Anyone who is under 30 years grew up in a country where mepuis, lawlessness and corruption is the order of the day…My children survived because of the strong guidance I gave them…but many did not and became beggars and prostitutes …Thanks to Team Dominica and leader Lennox Linton…Dominica has been brought back on a strong path of truth, honesty , integrity and good governance.
All youth of Dominica should attend this rally and become uplifted form the gutters…You need strong values and principles in your own personal life in order to progress …And bring along your parents because some of them have been very misguided in their support of the labour party…More Power to the UWP!!!

You are right!!! DLP is corrupting our young people… Ensuring every child in a household gets schooling, the scholarship programs, the school bus programs, the NEP programs, the small business funds and more… Lolzz you are so right DLP is corrupted. You’re right, the young people need to go to the rally in St Joe to be lifted from the gutter, to call people names and publicly blast people (example madame speaker the nasty, or Skerro the little boy) when things don’t go their way. To be lifted from the gutter and become bitter and angry when they don’t personally recieve something but forget the hundreds on the yes we care program, benefit from the petro caribe gas, roads, bridges ans so much more,

lolzzz My dear you need stop listening to what is being said and open your eyes and see, that Change has already been happening years ago. You want change but what change, for the better or for the worse?

I would be happy if you all would PASS A RESOLUTION, unequivocally condemning the DENEGRATION of our bold and brave Dominican women who have opted to serve their people in the political arena. This should be done after reference is made to the vicious and shameful verbal attack hurled at Monnel by Austrie on Labour Day in St Joseph, which forced the Doninica National Council for Women (DNCW) AND LEVEL HEADED DOMINICANS, both here and abroad to bow their heads in shame. While all this was happening there were other females giggling and clapping. I SAY SHAME ON THEM!
While it is a fact that the Labour Party politicians do not have the brilliance and intellect to discuss issues germaine to the development of Dominica, it would serve these DUNCE CATS, well to stop the diatribe, tongue lashing, insults, and denegration of people particularly women during their rallies.
This is really heartening to see the youths from Team Dominica is taking the initiative to spearhead this rally, and yes is can loudly say:
CHANGE IS A MUST. NOT AN OPTION!
    HOW LONG?

I am a woman with a career, the issue isn’t a woman issue. The candidate of the St. Joseph constituency threw herself in the political ring. Please do not make it a woman’s issue. She choose to be in the spot light, the conscious decision was made by her. Being a loving and nurturing mother should be her first priority. Lots and lots of us are working in an environment that is dominated by men. Now do not cry crocodile tears for her, she mad herself venerable.

Thats the truth. Anyhow you make yourself a public figure, whether you are a man or a woman. you are fair game. Women want equal rights, but when things arent in their favor as a person, they like to pull that “woman” crap. No you are a human just like skerrit on that podium. What makes it fair for him or any of his people to be able to take maypwe because they are men, but not fair for u to come under the same maypwe just because you are a woman? Accept the responsibility pal. All that comes with the package.

    • A Doubting Thomas
      May 19, 2014

Nun, if you really want to be fair and make a point and want to talk about how we want to be respectful of women; we cannot pick and choose which women or only women from the party we support.

We have had women being disrespected for years like the former Prime Minister Ms. Charles; The Present Speaker of the House and also former Parliamentarian Ms, Bannis-Roberts to name just a few of our woman in politics right here in Dominica by members of the UWP. Why go all the way to the US?

Maybe at their copycat Rally; of course why would they have a rally a mere 20 days at the same location; (Is that a DLP idea they have stolen?) Was a very good one, if they can recreate one better than the DLP, good for them.

However; they should come and apologize to all the negative things they have said about these women and the many others and promise never to ever disrespect any women in any way or form. Anything less is sheer hypocrisy. So I will be listening.

It is amazing to see how quick amnesia can kick in with the UWP people! The party has made St. Joseph their political embarrassment, by proclaiming that St. Joseph is the poorest village in Dominica. The village has been their target of mockery and embarrassment. Now, they a planning a youth really in St. Joe. How LOW will you stoop? the church service you attended you made a total fool of yourselves until the law had to step in. In choosing a person to represent the St. Joe constituency, you choose a person who doesn’t have any affiliation with the people. After months of absrobing their attacks and their insults, we hit them with one rally. One likkle big rally and they are still trembling!

It is clear that the UWPwee was shaken by the DLP’s Senjoe event. However, its responses have revealed the inexperience of its leaders, the extent of their fear (especially for that constituency…..see whose picture is front center in that poster above), and the confrontational nature of the party. Logically, that upcoming event will be seen through the dust of the DLP’s May 5th drumroll. It will therefore, always be seen as a source of comedy. A rather foolish move by the UWPwee, butthen again…we are used to these decisions that defy logic.

BTW, DNO, you know i did not notice an article from your desk promoting the DLP youth motorcade that was held on May 3. Guess what? I did not expect you to. You are very obvious, DNO. Very!

I think DNO is more balanced than most, if not all, media houses in Dominica. Have you seen the Chronicle? I think they should rename that newspaper The Labour Chronicle. Have you called as tell them they are so “obvious?”

Followers look up to Leaders, the UWP consists of a bunch of confused followers. They criticize every move of the ruling party, yet, the UWP constantly attempt to imitate the actions of the DLP. Our youth will say no to the false prophets, no to those who do not live what they preach and yes to our astute Leader. A man who works tirelessly on behalf of all Dominicans, he has listened and is attending to the cries of the Youth. He is not a miracle worker, however, he has implemented many measures to elevate our youth..Universal Secondary education, NEP, college scholarships, housing for the underprivileged, assistance with schooling expenses, the food program etc. What a caring man! DLP, for the continued development of Dominica!

So St Joe is the only place for rallies in Dominica. Uwp are copy cats to labour and they are calling it a youth rally just for pretence purposes.

    • Ndeychat
      May 19, 2014

Don’t be so ridiculous and you’re acting as though is labour that built St Joe! It is a community and is therefore available for anybody and any political party to use. UWP used St Joe numerous times to hold political rallies and Labour had their own there prior to this upcoming event. How does that mean that UWP is being a copycat? Did you not read that they are having a “youth arm” event there or can’t you understand the English Language? Where did you sense pretence?

You sound like you are capable of reading other people’s minds and that you have the ultimate right to judge. Very interesting
