DNO POLL: Did the prime minister deliver?

pollPrime minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, delivered the feature address at the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) rally in St. Joseph yesterday.

In his speech he spoke about a number of projects that have already been mentioned before including the building of an international airport, the construction of a Chinese-funded hotel on the public works site, the transformation of Roseau, the acquisition of a boat for the transportation of agricultural products and the export of bulk water from Dominica.

The prime minister also revealed two new projects, namely, the construction of a state-of-the-art indoor sporting facility and major rehabilitation in the town of Portsmouth.

He did not mention an election date and also took swipes at the opposition United Workers Party (UWP), especially its leader, Lennox Linton.

DNO wants to know the opinion of readers on the prime minister’s speech in a new poll.

Which of these is your favourite photo of the week?

    DOMINICA’S CRY ,

Alas Dominica, what a blast, I can hear you crying from a distant saying,
Why my servants Why honorables ,when its me who puts food on your table
look how you have brought me to shame, now my friends laugh at my name,
I was once a paradise but you succeeded by bringing shame to my eyes ,Through greed
So self-centered that’s what you are,not thinking of others, not even me,
now my companions have left me by far ,and i’m left alone on bending knees
I stumble by the rivers, and my riches are few,
I stumble by the forest, All because of you,
I stumbled by my natural sites, and stumble a new,and at the feet of visitors, I stumble too,
Why did’nt you listen to my cry?
Why,oh why,you left me here to die,
Why did’nt you answer when I call? your pockets you were filling and that was all,
    Now i’m left alone,like in a zoo,
Why my servants? It’s all because of you.

State of the art sporting facility. No one is talking about the health facilities in dominica. The hospital is a mess. Not enough equipment to service the sick, no medication to ease their pain. Never in my life i heard patients have to send and get their own medication outside of a hospital. I am so embarassed and feel so sorry for my own country. Marigot hospital shut down because of kool bwar AKA wood ants. So you mean to tell me the gov’t can’t build a hospital ? All the money that is going to things that are not priority , could be applied to health resources. It is so sad , to see if anythings happens to him or his family they can run to the usa and get health care. What happens to dominicans, they suffer and die.

What the PM thinks nah? everybody stupid like those he gives hand out to eh? Wheel and come again PM. be honest with yourself and let the people know that you came out to give the date for election but you wanted to know the strength of your voter, in order to make that decision. You were very disappointed and putting your innocent son in your mess saying he alone that know that, eh? Come on if you know what is good for you leave your kids out of your political power nonsense, especially Demitre. He is so sweet and innocent doh try to blight him.

This poll is very interesting….In spite of the increasing number of votes, the rating for poor has remains consistently at 54%… That should send a strong message to the PM.

    • Malgraysa
      May 12, 2014

There is an error in this tabulation:
      749 votes+370 votes+171 votes = 1,290 votes ( not 1,390). This would make the percentages as follows:

      – Poor 58%
      – Excellent 28.7%
      – Average 13.3%
..it is always good to check calculations, especially when it comes to such a sensitive subject.

      • Nature Spice
        May 12, 2014

Malgraysa, there were more options for the survey. They only gave the three top results. That is why the three options votes does not equal the total votes.

The waves of change is coming. Our eyes and minds have been opened. More and more people are realizing that we made a HUGE mistake by electing people who only care for themselves and not the general populace. PM you have turned some of us into beggars and you are proud of it. Where there is no vision, the people perish. One thing that is crystal clear is this. You have no vision at all so you are the wrong choice. If you can applaud your minister for degrading women like that, something is wrong in this country. IT is time to vacate this office. Change is a must, not an option.

The PM speech was geared specifically for the brain dead labourites who cannot seem to understand discuss at any level higher than what the PM and the likes of Reggie presented. Anything more elevated than that would simply slide over labourites head.

Roosevelt Skerrit is supposed to be a certified psychologist but his campaign highlighted the opposition more than anything else. Any marketing expert will tell you that brand awareness is not achieved by repeating your main competitor’s brand but that is exactly what happened! As the old slogan goes:” Any publicity is good publicity!” The best strategy would have been to ignore the opposition, and certainly not advertise your fear of them by the incessant mentioning of their name and in particular their leader In a democracy politics is like business. You have to sell yourself and create a trustworthy image of reliability. I am afraid that this time Roosevelt Skerrrit did just that for the opposition by forgetting his lessons about subliminal imprinting.

Thats why I voted his speach poor and if there was an option for very poor that is what I would vote it. How can his Gov’t make a thriving community so poor then go into that community and offer no hope but still beg the people for their vote? I urge St.Joe people not to be bought, not to be fooled, not to be tricked. Stay strong as a community, work together, pray together, play together, vote workers and Monelle together thats the hope for your future. The PM spent millions to bring Dominicans into your heart. Skerrit had an opportunity to be a hero in the eyes of all Dominicans but he blew it. With his whole cabinet sitting there with him he should simply have publicly fired Austrie for the brutal attack on Monelle Williams and by extension the ladies he plans to have run for Labour and Mrs. Gloria Shillingford.
A review of the video instead clearly shows the PM applauding

In any civilised country Mr. Austrie’s vile diatribe would have seen him instantly dismissed from his post. Yet, instead he probably will be appointed acting P.M. once again during Skerrit’s future absences from the country.. What does this say about the quality of our representation, the level of respect of the Govt. for its citizens and in particular our women?

Do so never like so. Recently all the opposition knew was Skerrit this and Skerrit that. All you hear on their talk shows is Skerrit Skerrit Skerrit… Now it goes to Linton Linton linton, and all hell break loose. We are naive/bias real bad in this country. The PM stated his achievements, what his intentions are and of course he did not disclose a date for elections, which is what many were expecting. There will always be a bit of name calling, that’s our politics. I listen I smile. We take everything here for a problem.
On a serious note all u expect Labour to lose the elections. When we have a lazy and unproductive opposition who preaches that the Labour Party is corrupt when they themselves though not in power have already begun to partake in corruption, and lies. Dominica does not need this type of Change. What we need is unity and committed people working towards the development of this blessed country. My household is more blue and trust me when we discuss politics at home all they talk about is discrimination… when we come in power all you will be put out of a job, let workers come in… SMH… i cannot support this junk. I love the policies of the Labour regime… there is room for improvement but I can associate myself more with them than Team Dominica. Go LABOUR you have the blessings of the elderly. You are on the way to victory… continue to Twavayyyyy… Let those lazy men take vacatins at people’s expense. Wicked opposition.

MR Austrie holds a ministry, however he did not deliver a report on that Ministry – Can members of the DLP support system direct me to Mr Austrie’s report please… as the PM stated all ministers were going to present a report from their ministry.

Or has he switched to cosmetology?

Another question; if Mr Austrie is so bothered by Mr Mr Linton’s look – MR Linton whom he rarely sees, what does he think or rather how does he feel about some of the no so pretty members of his team that he sees regularly… Mrs Shillingford :) as the minister responsible for Social Welfare should advise MR Austrie to stop berating people about their looks, there are many among us who are not red skin with long nose and pretty face – quite a few of them are supporters of the DLP and die hards to.. So Mrs shillingford should advise Mr Austrie (himself is so looker) to refrain from bashing people on their looks… criticize their policies constructively.. but not their looks.

My question is Can the Prime Minister deliver?. The Prime Minister is not yet as fluent and competent with english as Linton is, so his deliveries are always LAUGHABLE AND LAMENTABLE. He never seem to be able to learn.
There was nothing of substance in this long piece of f…………… It was loaded with gutter and rum shop stuff. Almost like the PM is short on communication skills and he is reverting to character assasination. Too many Linton this and Linton that. WHAT KIND OF CRAP IS THAT IN 2014?
    Where was the HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT?
    Where were the major announcements?.
Was it the ploy to have people to come to St Joe?
    Where are the jobs?
Why should a PM laugh at his own self in trying to denegarate an opposition who promises Jobs?
    Where is the hospital?
How can my living standeard be elevated?
Honestly i would give Skerrit 35%.

Honestly speaking i wasn’t expecting the Honorable Prime Minister to announce the date for the elections, the reason being is that it was the first official meeting for his party. Also, he would need more time to plan his massive, elaborate, tasteless and wasteful campaign. What i can’t seem to fathom is why on earth would a handsome, educated, hard working man like yourself be entertained with the whims of an unoriginal and unimaginative party who don’t have a clue of what the term TEAM means but I guess it adds flavor to your flamboyant, notional speech.

My dear Prime Minister, you did say that this rally was to bring across your future plans to your supporters and i did try to listen objectively but i heard nothing but cruel words spoken against my party. What i heard coming from the mouths of the so called qualified literate political leadership in St Joseph can be described in (one word) as senior council would have said “Hog Wash”. The speeches were directed at one set of people; the RED illiterate. I would like to refer the RED political directorate to an article which appeared in the PULSE newspaper of 30/04/2014 on page (5) five; captioned Political Leaders Need No Degree, an quoted from Dr Christopher Charles (a real Doctorate). He is a Political Psychologist an lecturer in the Department of Government at UWI, Mona. This article i’m sure the RED would find very offensive. It would make for very interesting reading but alas by whom. The utterances on that evening coming from so called qualified politicians lacked substance an morale ethics to say the least; of course (as aka Whisky would have said)” What do you expect from a bag of coals but dust”. Just thinking!!!

Berlin’s Tempelhof Airport Germany: opened in 1926, suffered from low international passenger numbers.

Durban International Airport, South Africa: opened in 1951, suffered from low international passenger numbers. Today it stands abandoned and while plans have not been made for its future use, it is believed the site will be used for industry.

Nicosia Airport, Cyprus: The abandoned airport of Nicosia is now the headquarters of United Nations following its closure in 1974.

Castellon International Airport, Spain: Castellon airport in the east of the Spain was inaugurated in March 2011 after an estimated 150m euros (£130m) was spent on its development but almost a year later, and having failed to secure a license to operate, the virgin airstrip is to be torn up.

Stapleton International Airport in Denver, Colorado (once the fifth busiest hub in the U.S. before closing in 1994). The airport, suffered from low international passenger numbers.
And is now being redeveloped as a mixed-use housing community.

Robert Mueller Municipal Airport, Austin, Texas, USA: Now defunct Robert Mueller Municipal Airport. The airport, suffered from low national and international passenger numbers.

Bulltofta Airport, Malmö, Sweden: Bulltofta Airport was converted into a park and entertainment complex. The airport, suffered from low international passenger numbers.

Though one of the hangars was turned into a school, the area has lost its aeronautic identity and air transport facility.

60% of the speech consisted of a whole set of garbage about Lenox and the opposition who are not in government. If you are confident about winning the next general election why doesn’t he just present his accomplishments and his future plans and move on instead of utilizing 60% of the timing of a featured speech to spew all that filth. This is evidence that this guy is just vacant.

As usual the PM made a politically inclined speech geared towards winning elections and I hope the people of Dominica does not fall for this. Please wait to see the commencement of the projects. Time it to see whether they begin just before elections.

But my God, I cannot believe people actually will vote for Austrie! What a display of disrespectful political conduct broadcasted to an international audience via YouTube. This was shameless and beyond disbelief, that we could have a parliament representative talking about ugly in a convention. This was racism pure and simple, and yes Black people can be racist against each other because the influence of the colonial masters are still present in some individuals, like Austrie, who are not learned or intellectually liberated: Even if he looked like a Skin Head, he did not have to sound like one! For the fear that DNO may not post my contribution, I will not write what I really think about Austrie.

Not only that, the st. Joe gathering was a “rent-a-crowd” with free transport, t-shirts and food & drink . I get the impression is was organised by the P.M.’s handlers to boost his ego and confidence. But note Roosevelt, the longer you leave the election the smaller your window gets and limit your room to move. You were misinformed that the opposition had spent all their money- they keeping their largent really dry for when it really matters. Is that why you called them “bastards”. Well, your mask really dropped that day and is not a nice face we saw!

The PM think he is a political strategist, but in UWP wanted the elections to be called would they be asking for the PM to call it? What we are seeing now is a political game/strategy being played by both parties. I suspect the UWP may have a slight advantage, but then again I may be wrong.

I cannot vote on a speech that I have not listened to. Can DNO present us with an audio of that speech?

Is the polling based on the fragments of the speech that spans multiple articles on DNO and/or the disappointment that the election date was not announced?

Embracing the construction of an international airport is a major announcement. It says that Francisco Telemaque has been right on this one all the time. Over $200 million was wasted on Melville Hall. It’s ok to have 2 or 3 airports but that’s money we do not have and should not waste.

If serious thought is given to the airport, we need to know:
1)How will it be funded? (Is it 100% Chinese?)
2)What percentage of jobs will be local?
    3)Who will manage it?

Or, is it just hot air? Is the goal of these projects full employment for Dominicans? I need to know a lot more.

The entire rally was poor. The Pm said before that each minister will come to give an over view of their achievements for the past years and only Darroux did so. Mr Austrie was the worst of all he has yet to say what he has achieved. Mr PM why do you all treat the Parl Rep for the Soufriere Constituency so bad. He did not address the people instead Ian Pinard did. Is Ian Pinard the sitting Parl Rep ? Why was he the one speaking for Pointe MIchel SOufriere Scotts Head and Gallion. Arent you all tired of stabbing him in the back. Pinard with the aid of the PM called a meeting behind Sams Back, Pinard was choosen to go up and Sam knew nothing about it got to know on the streets. Ian address rally yesterday . OH boy what a shame. Well Mr Pinard and Mr PM if is Pinard for progress i dont like that type of progress as he is teaching the youths to stab people in the back, and worse taking bread for people’s mouth ( He and Cohorts tried to let a credit union employee loose her job just because she not for them ) is that progress. As for Mr Pm Speech Hmmmmm I wonder who wrote that speech this time as it was very poor.

I have looked at the convention held yesterday by the DLP, And i was very disappointed by the speech given as it only appeared to be a speech of bashment and criticizing the opposition party and not trying to deliver a positive message to the people of your plans for the next 5 yrs, ive listened to the criticizing of fountain and monies being stolen ,lennox unfit to run a government and monnell loves cow meat, my people ill ask only this have skerit ever presented his degrees to the general public, have skerit ever explain to the dominican people of the way he goes about these grants and what is gives in return for grants given, why didnt they talk about how the plan to retduce poverty and make more employment for our people, these minters has no respect for the opposition our even the public of dominica in the manner they have displayed there self publicly, out of the few thousands that they have accusing fontaine to have stolen what happen to the millions that are missing and unaccounted for in the Treasury today, why is it that these major contracts are given out to only the Chinese government where local contractors are not insured to get work or also be involved on each major project given out, why is it that the government has created a system so hard for its people that those who are on land are crying of the strains and hardship and those whos interested in returning home and set employment for the people of dominica is given the red tape and drawn away. a road work have been done, college has been built, state palace has been built and all these major projects didnt involved dominicans contractors and road work only involved 8 dominicans why is it now election is around the conner your only now considering to give the scraps of these projects to Dominicans, is that what we deserve Dominicans? lets stand together and make a change,. the day skeritt gets out of power and both himself and party is revealed to the public for his supported i know youll be disappointed lets stand together and make this change, thank you.
