New DNO poll: Is it justifiable to move the new hotel to Cabrits?

Dominica News Online is calling upon readers to participate in a new poll called, “Is it justifiable to move the new hotel to Cabrits?”

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit recently announced plans to construct a hotel in Mellville Hall but a decision was later taken to relocate it to Cabrits. The decision to move was said to be based on “sound analysis”.

The US$13-million hotel is being financed by Morocco after diplomatic relations were established between that nation and Dominica in 2010.

The poll is located on the lower right hand corner of the homepage.

Dont build it in marigot, Dont build it in portsmouth, Lets try building it in Dominica! If we as D ominicans think that where ever we build the hotel is more important than how we obtain the funding and what are we to give in return for it. :?: :?: :?: :?: :?:

Melville Hall Airport was used to convince the Morrocans to fund a hotel in Dominica. Why shpuld we turn around and relocate the hotel to score cheap political points. An airport hotel would kill several birds with one stone. It would make more political sense to show the people of Marigot that the government works in the interest of all Dominicans even if thet support rhe UWP. Secondly, it would be an excellent opportunity to relocate the squatters and thirdly, the hotel would serve its intended purpose. I hope this is not a breach of the MOU with Morocco.

Having said this, I noticed that the diaspora is exporting a lot of TEA Party and Fox News talking points to Dominica. Shpold government wait for o dormant private sector to build hotels and create jobs? Many had criticized the National Commercial Development Bank (NCDB), now the pride of Dominica. They called it PJ’s frog bank.

Cabrits needs a hotel, but this 50 room hotel belongs to Marigot. Ian needs to follow the footsteps of Roosie and get off his butt to get funding for a hotel in Portsmouth. When the Canadians donated 5 schools to Dominica in the 70’s, Grand Bay got the largest even if they voted DFP. Castle Bruce Laplaine, Vielle Case and Goodwill got the others. If funds for the 27 million dollar presidential palace cannot be diverted, why divert the airport hotel? Or, why not build the presidential palace/office complex in Portsmouth instead? Or better yet, split the funds to build a 14 million dollar presidential residence in Roseau and a 13 million dollar office complex in Portsmouth.

Why will Edison not get off his butt and get a hotel for Marigot. Give Ian a break.

The airport was the bargaining chip. You have to convince your donor or lender of the viability of your business or project. False pretenses, lies, deceit, misinformation or what have you, may be grounds for forfeiture and mistrust.

The people of Morraco and Morrocans agreed to build a Hotel a long side the Melville Hall Airport also the GOVT of DOMINICA used that as a pitch to get it and now that they are sure of getting it out worthless politicans are reneging on the original deal airport hotel is for over night passengers and Pilots it’s just ridiculous to leave from Melville Hall drive to Portsmouth and then get up and drive all the way back it’s so unfortunate., Antigua Hotels are close to their airport.
The PM used the Airport to convince the Morrocans to assist in building the hotel it was a
good idea but now it’s been debated all over the place, why dont the GOVT go and beg some other Country to build a Hotel for Ian in Portsmouth.
This do not have anything to do with Parties or Edison James as one person wrote it all have to do with integrity and misrepresentation on the part of the GOVT developing the ISLAND is first and foremost but those of us who understand what is really going in DOMINICA we are not at all surprised about the move if they go a head.
I have to agree that the GOVT does very little in the MARIGOT constituency and this would have been a good move for the PM and his party to strengthen their support in that area remember it’s Edison James last term he have resigned from politic we haven seen any one taking up his mantle thus far so why not embraced the moment build the Hotel as originally planed and win some more supports.

DNO, can we please receive some updates including progress made on the Roseau to Portsmouth Highway? Thanks.

Portsmouth is an ideal location however, Melville Hall needs one as well. People must understand dynamics. Dominica’s roads are notorious. Why can’t we have a hotel within a few minutes of the airport?

Could we have views as to the pros and cons of each site?

Admin: why? If you have opinions on the pros and cons of each site, just say them here in the comments section.

Of course it’s justifiable to put a hotel in the Cabrits area. Weigh the pro and cons. We have a new Ferry service coming soon and it’s base is going to be Portsmouth. This will definitely lend to the success of the hotel.

    DNO,

I said I wasn’t going to ask you for another favor, but you didn’t grant me the first one so here I go again.

Can you run a poll to see if we should use the money to build two hotels; one in Possie and one by the airport? $13 million is enough for that. Don’t you think?

Admin: Let us take things one at a time. Just participate in the present poll. We will consider your suggestion some other time.

I mean it can be justifiable if the govt wants to put a hotel on morne diablotin, however, when look at the immediate situation, we can see that there are several housing facilities, motels, “hotels” in the portsmouth vicinity. Some of which have abandoned, deteriorated or neglected. However, Dominica is the ONLY country, Island, sublet, what have that does not have a hotel close to the airport. Dominica continue to show its inability to get its priority right. With the hopes of night landing, in the event that passengers have to overnight due to plane malfunction, bad weather, etc etc etc. Must passengers always have to return to the various locations in Dominica. Ridiculous I say. I know that the feathers of a few were recently tickled for neglecting Portmouth, however, wisdom should prevail. Yes portsmouth should get a hotel, but my concern is, if Night landing is really coming soon, then shouldn’t placing a hotel in the vicinity be top priority, whether it’s government own or privately own.

Now government owning hotels around the island in itself is a bit mind-buggling and another issue.

Dominica remain the ONLY place with no housing close to the airport, regardless of what the issue may be. This is what you call lack of progress. But ONE DAY, we will get it right.

Admin: cast your vote on the lower right hand corner of the site.

well v…if those who can jointly build hotels are not doing so, instead they are investing in fast food joints and supermarkets and other businesses that suck money from the poor who else is left to do so?
