More readers have voted the Internet as their most important source news in Dominica.
This is according to Dominica News’ weekly online poll.
Fifty-one percent (205) of the 399 votes accounted for Internet news; 41 votes for radio; 33 votes for television; 15 votes for newspaper; six votes for “none” and 99 votes for “all of the above”.
DNO has set up another weekly poll located to the right of the screen, about the effects of the global recession on Dominica.
DNO keeps us Dominican [ Donmnitjen] world wide in touch with local news.
Big up to all the Staffs, The job is fairly done.Keep it up. Garford George.
I live out of Dominica and read more DNO than the local news where I reside. Since I am not at home I am thankful to have DNO in order to keep up with what’s happening at home. I browse at the headlines before I leave for work and read the news in the evenings. DNO can also be more detailed as one person commented. In the meantime I am also satisfied. Keep up the good work.
For the record DNO does a great job in my view. I will say it again. DNO does a great job and I am a fan of DA! I also agree that internet news is very popular now, more than ever before. I was only commenting on the poll results, saying that the percentage value was expected given its source and the results could be more interesting if done differently. To make another analogy: its like if we took a poll of the genres of music most enjoyed by CK fans and Bouyon is most enjoyed, then this would be expected..Again, I still love DNO!
I live in the “Far East” where the time difference is 12 hours (ahead), and based on my activities, I can’t always catch DBS or Kairi FM online for news. On the other hand, I can always visit DNO and find out the latest. That’s why I remain grateful for its service–and I”ve told the staff so. The days of waiting one whole week to read the news (and we still love to READ the news, don’t we?) are over. Bravo DNO!
Internet news has rapidly dominated the other sources of news. Since DNO gained its popularity and large readership base newspaper sales has declined. I’ve heard people say they don’t buy newspapers anymore, and I’ve also seen it form myself. I am not motivated to buy local newspapers because the news is so stale by Friday.
I mean news is free, easily accessible and I can travel anywhere with the assurance that I can log on to a computer and still keep tabs on news in my country. Thank God for the staff and management of DNO.
@Pedro
Although you have made a valid point, when I am sitting on beach, or on a bench on the Champs Elysee, there is only one online source of news from D/ca on my mobile device…and that is DNO. You cannot argue with that, mate.
Juicer makes a valid summation. If nothing more, the poll serves as a good indicator of today’s trend.
With all due respect.
Is there any other way to get the news? I do not want to wait until tomorrow to read today’s news. DNO is my umbilical cord to news and events (abridged version or not) in Dominica – irrespective of what part of the globe I land on. DNO comes my way via desktop, laptop, and all other mobile devices (iphones, blackberries, etc). DNO for local news, BBC for international news, and CNBC for financial news – then I hit the boardroom well informed. What does a news paper look like? I think I last saw one at the Smithsonian.
If I need more indepth details about a world event, google always comes in handy.
DNO has double benefits: read and give feedback about the events shaping our island.
@ illerates…. i think we clearly understand that it’s the ‘internet’ that is the most valuable source for news. BUT, my compliment was specifically directed to DNO, as it’s the best site for news in Dominica. As for other news such as CNN, I prefer watching via television. That’s my perspective. Next time give your views and not look for means to bash on the views of others.
P.S You love your DNO?
yes I love my DNO
You voting for it?
Yes I voting for it
WELL THANK YOU
lol… laugh it out….
i dont think DNO claimed to be conducting a scientific poll, so i would guess that it will never be totally exat
Pedro has a point but an increasing number of dominians are using facebook, myspace, hi5 and youtube. my uncle is in his 70s and is a member of facebook and he reads DNO every day. now pepole can access radio online, tv online… it cando everything… dno should consider an online radio station and we’ll see if Krazy doh get crazy.
give DNO break, it is the number one source of unbiased news!
I am taken aback as to why folks are commenting about DNO when the poll was done about general sources of news. I am happy DNO choose that route instead of specifically targeting media houses which would likely give a more skewed response. Now commenting on the article – and staying on topic – the Internet is the most accessed source of information. Back in the days when international news broke I would rush to the nearest radio or tv, now we have DNO, CNN.com, BBC.com and all those sites that update lightening fast. By the kudos DNO, if it was not for you, folks like Pedro, and his grey hair, will not have the opportunity to blog crap.
DNO is the source for news…. that settles it…. My one stop news spot for real!
The news format is great, but very limited, especially for those of us reading it in Texas,we need more info, and more ways to blog with each other.
ADMIN
Thanks for the advice. We’re actually working on a new design, so we will incorporate more.
to add to pedro…. a lot of users of DNO are outside of Dominica which then makes it the most accesible.

According to our stats from Alexa and Google Analytics, most of our readers are now from within Dominica as opposed to when we just started. It now stands at 51% compared to 15% a couple months ago when we started. So there are the facts. Google analytics and Alexa are not owned by DNO, and are independent sources of information. While we boast a large diaspora readership, it is no surprise that it is currently the most locally accessed news medium. From 9 to 5 more people access news online compared to radio and TV. Most people – especially the spending public – have access to internet and computer between those crucial hours; not many people have access to TV and radio during working hours, except for “drive time” and after work or weekends. Most people access local TV when they are home. Most people access Internet, thus they’ll access DNO.
DNO is widely read. Ask anyone on the street, at least five out of ten people will tell you they know of or heard of dominica news online. I dont buy papaers anymore and I dont listen to radio as much. it is not secret that newspapers going out of style.
Dear DNO,
This is not surprising at all. It is likely that your poll will be skewed and biased if you are polling online from your own website as most of these people will be checking news online. If you want to more accurately find out the proportion of people using internet news as their main news source, then you could pick a random sample of the population and call those selected persons to find out.
