As Dominica joins Venezuela in celebrating the South-American country’s 205th anniversary of Independence, ambassador, Hayden Ovando Pirela said his country will overcome its current problems.
Speaking at a ceremony held to commemorate the occasion on Monday at the Simon Bolivar Square in Goodwill, he defended the priorities of the South-American country, despite the current socio-economic and political crisis.
“Without a doubt, Venezuela is a democratic country. Venezuela is a country who has focused its objectives on the less fortunate,” he said. “It is a country which has demanded respect for sovereignty, and has respected the sovereignty of other countries.”
For months, it has been reported that oil-rich Venezuela has been experiencing a deep social, economic and political crisis, with unrelenting internal and external forces challenging the political system.
However, Pirela expressed confidence that the present situation in Venezuela will be resolved.
“Many things have [been] said about Venezuela…,” he noted. “We have never denied the economic and political situation that we are facing, but we will overcome it… We will overcome our problems.”
In May, Pirela said that the situation in Venezuela is not as bad as the media is reporting, and insisted that there is no hunger situation in the country.
Yet, in June, Venezuelan security forces fired teargas at protesters chanting “We want food!” near Caracas’ presidential palace.
Notwithstanding the situation in the Latin American country, Pirela commented that the relationship between Dominica and Venezuela is “at its highest possible level,” and assured that Venezuelan projects will continue in Dominica.
“You can count on Venezuela,” he said. “Our commitment to projects in Dominica will continue.”
Acting Prime Minister, Reginald Austrie, referred to Venezuela as Dominica’s “true friend and brother,” and stated that he is confident that the Latin-American country will overcome its challenges.
“It is based on this long and glorious history of independence that runs deep in the blood of the Venezuelan people, and based also on the maturity of Venezuela’s political leadership that we, in the Commonwealth of Dominica, have every confidence that the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela will triumph over its current challenges, and emerge stronger from it,” he remarked.
Venezuela declared its independence from Spain in on July 5, 1811.
“Pirela said Venezuela is a democratic country”
That is your belief; nevertheless, the claims you made that Venezuela is a democratic country is totally false! If anything be honest and say Venezuela is a socialist country. Socialism and communism are one of the same, and since communism has failed, and died wherever it was implemented, the same is in the destiny of Venezuela.
The system in Venezuela is a dictatorship system; no matter what face we see. The same dictatorship is in motion in Dominica; any country where the government is run and controlled by one individual that country is operating under a dictator. The only difference in the dictatorship in your country, and Dominica, the rule by decree is not yet officially declared in Dominica.
Who cares about your two hundred years of independence?

If you wanted Dominica to join with you in celebration; this is the day you should announce the ceding of Bird island back to Dominica, because the island rightfully belong to the people of Dominica. If you believe that Venezuela is a democracy, let me introduce you to book “Penguin Classics” by Alexis De Tocqueville Democracy in America: Read it and decide if your system is a democratic system!
Every country has its problems whether in an uprising or not. If people were more subservient or subservient for that matter, they would not experience certain problems. Too many depend on the government. They do not work with their own hands as they blame the government for everything, even their own failures of not being responsible for themselves and helping to build-up their country. This is the problem with some people.
There was a time D/ca had its own problems, similar to Venezuela. It overcame and is still standing.
Yes! I have confidence, in time Venezuela will overcome its problems.
A Blest and Happy Independence to Venezuelan nationals. God bless Venezuela and its people!
Don’t worry Excellency, Alex Saab will help you. Have you been granted membership of the Caracas Country Club by the way? No? I did not think so.
of course Venezuela will overcome its problems. Just get rid of Maduro!
He finally came to his senses?
So Venezuela does have problems Ambassador? I thought you said everything was fine some weeks ago? Forgive me if I don’t believe a word that you uttered!
We will overcome our problems by shooting people or imprisoning them without trial. Easy.
Just give it up already. The people have already decided. The only reason you all still have any power is because you refuse to let the DEMOCRATIC process flow freely and continue to do everything in your power to stop the referendum from going through.
“It is a country which has demanded respect for sovereignty, and has respected the sovereignty of other countries.”
Well, except Bird Rock.
Steve, don’t overlook their claims Guyana.
Good point.
Eh eh what problems, I thought you said all was well and no problems going on in Venezuela?
Sir, your country will overcome it’s problems only when you all get rid of that dictatorship government and you are clearly seeing that Dominica is aggressively following your country.
Venezuela melting down coming to a street near you, socialism never worked and never will work, u have an oil rich nation and u have no toilette paper shame on you socialists.
How wicked can you be? Sir I am not sinless or do all what is right or just but it broke my heart to hear a Venezuelan of your caliber a few weeks ago said the people are fine and refused Mr. Linton’s help to get some much needed food to the people. Now you’re singing a different tune. You listened to our government here and try to make Mr.Linton look foolish for offering his help. I think sir now would be a good time to apologize to Mr.Linton and tell he you would gladly accept his donation for the people. You were the one fooled by the Government of this land who 99.9% had two or 3 meals that day. I wonder when people will wake up and stop being fooled.
Blah blah.
Pongo mongo!
Don’t cry to me!
Mr ambassador of course things will get better. But why did your administration have to put the people of Venezuela through such hardships, pain and suffering. It was uncalled for, therefore you and your government must step aside. You are inept.
only a fool brake his own heart.
Exactly Manicou…..this man is so laughable
The ambassador of Venezuela Hayden O . Pirela should return to his country to face the same hardship the people are going thru, he said , we have never denied the economic and political situation that we are facing but all along he was lying to the people of Dominica and the world, because the situation is bad and it’s getting worst by the minute, I’m sure he will say the pictures that are seen thru out the world are fakes. This guy don’t care about the people all he and his Boss cares about is Power and they are using it against the people. I pray that the petition to out the President succeeds so the people can start helping themselves and develop there country.
Minister Reginald Austrie where is the money Dominica owes Venezuela gone to why is it you and your Government refuses to tell Dominicans and Venezuelans what happen to it and how did we pay them back.
Now he is admitting that Venezuela got problems, couple months ago he said everything was fine in Venezuela
We stand in solidarity with Venezuela in good times and in bad times. Better days are ahead for this generous country.
We stand in solidarity with the people of Venezuela…NOT the government!
Pondera, while you stand in solidarity with Venezuela what is the Government of Dominica doing to help the people out of the hardship they have fallen into ? .
ah ah but how can I take you serious when you said Venezuela is not bad as the imperialist Americans saying it is… now you coming and say things bad… “idiotic ambarassador”
Very interesting. Now the ambassador admits that his country has problems. Let me add that today BBC reports that Venezuelan women breached the border with Colombia in a desperate search for food! You can not eat oil, can you Excellency.
